Front page is updated with David's gorgeous Dora.
GA,
I see an interesting little dio in the making. Keep it up!
Now for pics of my latest attempt.
Proof of nonstartedness.
First complete subassemblies painted. While the Tamiya Red Tail kit gives you an uncut canopy mask set, your on your own for the wheels. In this case an Eduard set is doing double duty.
Wings are done.
Pits are done. According to the Leading Edge decal sheet for the Canadian bird, the pit is black. Since the Guatemalan bird may have come from Canada, I went with a black pit for it as well.
A little over 36 hours in and we have something that looks like airplanes. At this point I should have made the decision to focus on one aircraft, but didn't.
At some point in the afternoon, I did decide to go focus on one aircraft but it was the more difficult of the two. Now all shiny.
She's got her mask on for the paint fight that's coming.
The red is on and drying. I thought I used Tamiya Bright Red out of the rattle can, but it was Italian Red instead. In the set are decals for some birds with red lightning bolts going down the sides of the fuselage and I think that the Bright Red will be a better match for that. I also didn't realize how translucent the Italian red was until I had to fix a spot on the underside of the wing. Even though I primered over it, you can still see a tonal difference.
The decalling process has begun. Decals are by Leading Edge and portray P-51's from Western Canada. If I remember right, mine is from 442 Squadron "City of New Westminster" British Columbia.
The underside. The silver circles are decals provided in the set. You also get some resin antennae for certain aircraft. Mine will have one.
And that is where she sits right now. All that's left to paint is the spinner, tail wheel, and radiator exhast door. Will get back to her in the afternoon after I wake up from my overnight shift.
