British Army Group Build 2020
Posted by Bish on Sunday, November 17, 2019 4:52 AM

So, we have had the Brylcream Boys and the Senior service, now its time for the real work force in the UK's armed forces. 2020 is the time for the British Army Group build.

The GB will be open to any British Army subject, be it air, land or sea. Be it an RFC Bi-Plane of WW1 or an Apache AH-1 of the AAC, a soldier of the New Model Army to a Challenger tank or a river patrol boat, they can all be included. And just to claify, gliders in WW2 were flown by the Army's Glider Pilots Regt, so they are included as well.

While the British Army dates back to 1660 and the restoration of the Monachy, and the formation of the English Army, it has its origins in the New Model Army of the English Civil War and so the GB can include subject's going back to that conflict. So if your a budding figure painter and you fancy a Napoleonic war's figure, now is your chance.

The GB can include none British subjects under British command. These could be Commonwealth troops in the N African desert or US Airbourne troops during Market Garden, or any other none UK forces. If your not sure, just ask.

And i am sure this will please any Bootnecks out there Big Smile, seeing as the Royal Marines do  have have their origins in the English Army and the Duke of York and Albany's maritime regiment of Foot formed in 1664, and as the RM were not covered by Steve's British ships GB, Royal Marine subjects can also be included.

The GB will begin on the 1st Jan and run throughout 2020. Partially started kits can be included, but the most important 2 rules are to have fun and post plenty of pics. Your build can be OOB or full of after market and cross overs are fine.

You only have to sign up for 12 months service instead of the minimum of 4 and while you won't get a Queen's Shilling, you can take your choice of one of 3 badges ( you lucky people).

Firstly, we have the good old British Square.

Then something for the flyboy's.

And finally, some modern armour. As soon as i saw this image, i knew i had to use it, would have been against Army Regulation's not to.

Any questions, just ask.

So, what you waiting for.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

I'll look for drawings of a Canal Defence light. If I can find them, I'm in.

Bish: Count me in for something. Right now I'm thinking of the Bronco 1/35th Comet but I may as yet change my mind by the first of the year.

Hi Bish,

I'll start with an Airfix 1/76 Matilda please. I'll also do an Airfix Bofors and Tractor if that's ok to include.

Cheers

Tony

I'm just taking it one GB at a time.

I may overextend myself with all these GB's but I'll go down swinging. Put me in with a 1/35 Tamiya Challenger 2.

Bish,

I am seriously tempted - will 2020 be the year I actually finish a GB model?  Maybe.  Stick out tongue  My modeling buddies tease me that I have too many "British-British-British kits", so I have lots to choose from.

Oh what the heck, put me down for a DML 1/6 PIAT launcher.  It's weird enough, has been on my "to-do" pile forever, and I enjoyed playing the video game at Bovington!

And maybe down the line I can let a 1/6 Star Wars Sandtrooper use it...

Bish

Real, i have not come across that PIAT kit, that should be interesting.

Bish,

The PIAT was from DML's line of assembly kits that I believe were based on pre-finished accessories that came with their 1/6 scale soldier figures.  It is quite rough, but it has a fabric sling and metal buckles.  I'll exhume it from the stash and post photos.

Here is the DML PIAT:

As-found condition after exhumation from the stash:

Pieces parts.  Parts is parts:

Goody bag contents:

And an Enfield rifle:

Not really interested in the Enfield.  It will probably go back into the stash.

So sorry I missed this one Bish....my apologies to you and the Queen!

I would love to be added to the list.  Not sure what kit yet (still moving in to the new place and all), but it will be something WWII.  Armour or a glider maybe.

Bish, I dug the Comet out of the stash and popped the box open last night. And whoops, I forgot that I'd gotten a good bit done with the kit. Not sure why I didn't finish it but the kit's about 1/3rd built.

I did find a set of PE parts I didn't remember ordering for the kit. Some has been added. I probably got irritated by all the PE and shelfed it.

If that's too much work done I'll find something else. I do have plenty of British military subjects Sad
