You've come out with a nice matte finish on that bird Bish. What product are you using?

There is a bit of an issue with the decals for the subject i am doing. According to the instructions, V-AA of 75 Sqn was the aircraft on which Sgt ward climbed out onto the wing to put out an engine fire, for which he was awarded a VC. I have seen profile images and other models which say the same thing. But a few weeks ago i was looking at the Airfix kit instructions, and the aircarft with the call sign R-AA was supposadly the aircraft on which Sgt Ward was flying, and both have the same registration number, L7818. So i did some digging and several sources i found suggest the Airfix kit is correct. One site, which lists the call signs and registration numbers of the 75 Sqn Wellingtons not only confirmed that R-AA was Sgt Ward aircraft, but also had the registration L7818. The kit i have, V-AA, was L7848, pretty close. So, with that solved, as i don't have the decals to change the V to an R, but the MPM sheet included spare registrations some of which included a 4 in the right size and colour, that pretty much made the choice for me.

I then gave it a flory wash and a flat coat and started adding some of the remaining parts. The engines were a bit tricky, getting the exhaust ring over the pipe work meant some squeezing things into place.

A few final bits to add and the figures to sort out.

Well another problem....I seem to have lost the decal sheet. Never happened before. Just sent a email to trumpeter to see if I can get a replacement

They did have some Stuka RC models.

I love that movie and watch it yearly as well as Sink the Bismarck. Another well done and mostly accurate (as they could make it) movie.

I do like that movie and its in my collection. Given the lack of knowledge at the time about the role of Bletchly park, i think they made a good job of it. I think the only real complaint is the portrayal of Lutjens as a hard core National Socialist.

While those 1950's British war movies do have a touch of Properganda about them (one would think they were made during the war rather a decade or more later) they are still good movies and i would imagine its what the country needed in those post war years. I do need to add the Cruel Sea and Dambusters (prefrably a none PC version) to my collection.

I was born 7-months after V-J Day and grew up in a family of military veterans that had very strong negative feelings about Germany and Japan. I do not share the resentment of my father and uncles' generation, but I still find it hard to watch movies with German planes bombing England and Japan bombing Pearl Harbor. For this reason, I will probably never build a German or Japanese aircraft models.

I thought I had the paint finished up. But....some of the black peeled up when removing tape. Not too bad. Hopefully time for touch ups later

Apparently it was quite common to name black labrodors by that name at the time. Last year the RAF at Scampton replaced the head stone of the dogs grave with the name removed.

Guess I was lucky to pick up a copy of 'The Dambusters' a decade ago when it wasn't PC. First time watching the movie and

'OMG, what did he call the dog!?!?!'

For those who haven't seen it there's a black dog who is named ahem... um...the 'N' word. And I don't mean the shortened form of 'National Socialist'.

Great job there TJ! I love the ribbing on the wings, really nice detail there.

No complaints about the movie, just seemed funny to me. It's waaaaay better than the original 'Midway' with the endless stock footage. It did kinda annoy me with the constant harping on how great that unnamed RAF fighter was while ignoring the awesome Hurricane. I can start to see your issues with that aircraft Bish.

I must admit that is another good one and at least they do have Hurricaines in the movie. And i believe the RAF museums Ju 87 was modified to look like a 1940 Stuka but it would have cost to much to make it air worthy.

Looks good TJ! Yes

BTW: If you're in the States and get Amazon Prime they're running 'Battle of Britain'. First time I've seen it and pretty darn fine movie. Although it makes you think the only bomber the Luftwaffe had was the He-111!

Its just lucky the Spanish had a few 111's and 109's to lend for the movie. Makes me think of the scene where the young lads are stood on the bank of the Thames arguing about whether the planes are Heinkels or Messerchmitts.

Good to see you back harold, nice your able to get organised. A few years ago when i was moving from the dining room to the now spare bedroom, i took a whole week off work just to get it decorated and all the shelving put in place. Look forward to seeing those builds, that lanc should be a whopper.

I've been a bit slow myself the last couple of weeks. But the Wimpy is coming along, just getting the ground equipment sorted and then will give everythign a flat coat.

Bish, I had to take some time off modeling to get other thing done around the house. I have also been reorganizing, or should I say organizing my studio (spare room). The room is an absolute mess with paint everywhere, tools and supplies all over and a stash of unopened model kits that I tell myself I will get too some day.

I ordered enough paint racks to store about 200 bottles of Vallejo and Tamiya paint and plan to add several shelves on two walls before I start my Supermarine Spitfires. When I finish the Spitfires (one British and one Australian) I have a 1/48 HK Avro Lancaster to build. I think the rest of 2021 will be dedicated to fixed wing air craft and learning how to paint camouflage.

Finally got an update. I was able to get the engines together. These are little kits by themselves. Each of the pistons along with all the pipe work are seperate parts, took a god couple of days to get these done.

And got the aircraft painted. Once again the Montex masks have proved a pain with quite a few panels lifting. I am expecting to have to clean paint off clear part.

All paints are Xtracolor.

Now to get the decals added.
