Unfortunately I'm following Bish's extraordinary build of the Airfix kit. Here is the start of my Italeri kit. Which is a redo of the Esci kit from the early 80's. Its not a bad kit just lacks some details. This is about 3 hours work

Here are the final pics of the Harrier. After the decals i kust gave it a light flory was then a mat coat. I used Eduard resin BL755 cluster bombs on the outer pylons. The rest are from the kit.

I used a base from Coastal kits. I do like there carrier decks, they are perfect for a flat metal surface. But i am not so keen on these ones are there is no texture. But its the only option for this type of matting. This was used at the FOB set up at San Carlos in May 82. It allowed Harriers and Sea Harriers operating from the carriers to attack Argentinian postions, then re-arm and re-fuel before mounting another attack on route back to the ships. It also meant that aircraft could be on call to provide air support to the ground troops much closer to the front line than operating from sea. The FOB, known as RAF West Wittering to the RAF, was in use from the 2nd of June to the end of hostiolities 10 days later. I only found out about this FOB a few years ago, which is a pity as i had been to San Carlos a couple of times when down south.

I did cut away the printed grass areas and replace with static grass.

I've already started the Sea King, hope to have an update next weekend.

Today marks 40 years since the Argentinian invasion and occupation of the Falkland Islands. The following conflict was to last 74 days until the occupiers were defeated and the Islands liberated.

This means we have 74 days left until the GB ends and i need to find the motivation i seem to have lost and get my Sea King conpleted.

Your Harrier turned out great!

I hear your sentiments about motivation.  I lost it on the Hercules after the Argintinian flag custom decal attempt 2 and 3 went horribly wrong.  I am close to just trimming the blank white decal paper to size and freehanding it with light blue paint and a gold dot.

With all those Harriers on deck, I'd better work on some opposition.  The Pucara is back on the table.

Great G - I want to follow your build as I have the same kit in the stash.  Were you able to get the funky camo colors?  Can't seem to find them in stock in the US.  I've been looking for the Hataka paints.

BTW - spoiler alert, doesn't end well in Pucara vs Harrier

Thanks,

John

Someone on line mentioned OOTB Tamiya colors for the Pucara.  I wrote them down somewhere.

Yeah, I immediately noticed a complete lack of RWR, ECM, or chaff equipment when I initially looked over the kit.  But there are chaff panels provided in the box for the later version.

Keavdog - The colors I wrote down are Tamiya XF-21 Flat Sky and XF-57 Flat Buff, and RLM-76 for the undersides.  The on-line builder's model looked just right, so I'm going with his color selections.

Bish - I noticed I have another Falklands veteran in the pile, so may I enter it in the GB (as if I don't have enough)?

I'm not planning on doing operational missiles though, as I like the red ones.

Nope, no shortage of Harriers in this GB.

Real G, very cool. I would certainly have that in the collection.

Nice work TJ.

Real, you sure can. I had hoped someone would do one of these, i've still to get this kit so will be keen to see it. I like the red missiles as well. I take it your just doing the Sea Dart.

I stuck some pieces of the Sea Dart's launcher together last night:

Fit is generally good to excellent.

There being one month to go, I thought it best to get started on my Victor K.2.  My first step was to shamelessly copy all of Martin's post into a Word document, and set it next to my instructions.  Then I went to Sprue Brothers and got Eduard masks, cockpit PE, and wheels.  I'll have to wait for the cockpit PE before I go too far there, but in the meantime I painted the interior of the fuselage in the cockpit area using Floquil Nato Black and MM light gull grey.  I also assembled the horizontal stabilizer and elevators. giving the elevators a slight nose down position to copy the position of XL189 rolling out on the Ascension Island runway after a mission. That's the airplane I will be marking the model as.

John,

Looks like you've got your work cut out for you!  Can you finish it in less than a month?

(Though with Bish absent, I guess no one can call this GB finished!)
