Things were on the slow side today so I got some bench time with the Corsairs.  Lots of small parts X3.

All right - ready to bring MotoGP to the 80's group build.  The man that changed MotoGP forever bringing American dirt track style to European MotoGP racing... Mr Kenny Roberts.  The young American that brought the knee down, sliding around corners to the race winning the championship in 1978, 1979 and 1980 pushing that Yamaha around the track and giving us what we see today in MotoGP - here is the 1980 winning build!

Starting with the frame.  This is an old Tamiya kit and it shows.  The new kits have zero mould separation lines... this has many.  Still fun to build

Working a few alclad metals

Got a bit of the motor together, more to come

Thanks,

John

Progress.  The new kits are so much better, engineering, fit etc.  This one takes a bit of patience.

Thanks,

John

I remember how I used to marvel over these while looking at the Tamiya catalogs.  I've never attempted to build one though.

John: the engine on that bike looks marvelous.

Pawel: Glad to see your cobra finished up. Well done on it.

Ed: I bet putting together three corsairs at once gives you deja vu. Nice progress you have on them.

Got the cab and hood all done up. Along the way , I came across a headlight piece that mead missing from the sprue. I requested a replacement for it from round2 models so hopefully I get it soon. Hoping to call it done in the next few weeks.

Nice John, I was wonder if you had gotten any more done.

I've been working on my kitchen renovation so no fun time for me at the bench till I get around the corner with this.

While other projects are on a temporary suspension while waiting for outdoor painting weather, figured it is time to bust out one of my grail kits, the Magnum PI Ferrari.  I loved that show as a kid, along with the A Team and Knight Rider.  Some day BA's van will come out of the stash, and I will get my hands on a model of KITT.

Anyway, here is the box, dust and all:

I ordered this off of Ebay, and it has had some parts removed from the trees so hopefully nothing is missing.  Kind of hard getting raplacements now:

It is definitely a kit from a different age, some flash is present on parts but not too bad.  I am glad that manuracturers stopped using black styrene, I am having a wicked time reading the part numbers on thise two trees.

Robert: That's soooo cool! I picked Magnum up on DVD a bit ago and have been going though the series- about two-thirds of the way though currently.

It's funny that they removed the padding from the seats so the 6'4" Selleck would sit a little lower in the car. Still they never put the top up since his head was still higher than the windshield!

A brief update to start the weekend, the engine is complete and awaiting installation.  This weekend will see work on the car interior, which is where I have run into my first bump in the road.  As this was a used kit, the foot pedals are MIA.  I will try raiding the spares box to see if anything reasonably close is available,  otherwise I will just have to scratch something.

Patel: I have a dump box for the back that I scratch built.

Glamdring: Nice choice with the Magnum PI Ferarri. Hopefully the missing parts don't give you too much trouble.

Thanks, John.  The spares box had a reasonable approximation of the foot pedals.  Formerly AA gun barrels from a 1/700 ship turret.  Unfortunately, or fortunately in some respects, they will be basically invisible after the dash is installed, even after I glued some extensions on as well.  Oh well!

Not sure if it can be seen due to the lighting washing everything out, but I used to shades of tan on the carpeted floor and the leather seats and console.  From the looks of the original, the carpet was a tad darker than the leather areas.

Thank you!

It is coming together nicely, and rather quickly!

Now I need to start thinking about that nice Ferrari red...I think I will just take the easy path and get a can of Tamiya TS85.

I guess some purists will complain but red is red to me. Not like I can tell the difference!

LOL! I can't afford Ferrari red anyhow! GM, Dodge, or Ford red will have to do!

Thanks for the suggestions guys.  I opted for TS-8 Italian Red, I think that is their flavor that goes with all their Ferrari kits.  Arrived yesterday, so hopefully we will find out later this week.

Had some more progress, front wheels, spare, and radiator is installed.

Then I ran into used kit issue #2 and #3.  The rear axle is MIA, as is the part for some kind of fluid reservoir in the engine compartment.  Sigh...  I will grab some brass rod from the LHS for the axle, so not a biggie.  The reservoir, I will just skip since I don't plan on displaying with the hood up anyway.
