I would like to add this Mig-21MF for Lewbud. The wip is on the Larry Wolf GB. I was waiting for this kit to be finished, so it could be added. Thankyou.

Nick, that Mig 21 really looks the business. I love the camo and 'look' of it.

I'm managed to get a bit more done on my Me 263. The next step is to reinstate some panel lines, then add the canopy.

I started on the Do 335 for Hunter and his father Jeff.

I'm going to make it into a small dio depicting the British captured night fighter version. This is a strictly OOB build using the Revell 1/48 kit. I don't remember if I showed it before or not so I'll recap if I did.

I started by removing the plastic surounding the engines since I will be displaying it with the cowlings off as produced by Revell.

I also replaced the raised panel lines with scribed panel lines. I had a hard time with this but I think I finally got it. After completing the pits (sorry, no pics), masking the canopys, building the wings and attaching the fuselage. I sprayed black primer. After a few more items I'll apply the camo.

Painting the yellow base gave me all sorts of fits but I am happy with how it turned out. Can't wait to put the stripes on the plane.

John: I'm right there with Cliff on the yellow. Great job on getting that all laid down as well as you did.

As of now the nose to body fit has been holding me up in moving forward in a timely fashion but.....this is a holy grail build of mine so I'll be taking my time with this one.

All of these AMT Mustang kits of this year model ( Fastback, GT-350 and the GT-500) have the exact same problem with the nose to body fit, particularly on the drivers side. A little TLC is all that's needed to fix the problem. 

This is the NASTY join on the drivers side of the car:

Sanding the front edge of the drivers side fender ALL THE WAY down from the top of the fender where the side contour of the fender is to the bottom helped the gap throught the top an d bottom edges of the fender/ nose seam. Once that was straightened out I noticed that there was a slight interference fit issue behind the headlight on the no se piece so I took a small file and trued the area where the headlight bucket meets the leading edge of the fender called out as area #1 in the photo below. After that I trimmed out the area behind the headlight called out as area #2 in the same photo. These couple of mods seemed to help things out alot.

another thing that I did that seemed to help was that I used the back side of my X-Acto knife to carve out some of the "meat" out from the drivers side front fender where the backside of the headlight bucket meets the fender from the inside as pointed out here:

Although the passenger side doesn't seem to have the alignment & fit issues that the drivers side does you can see the difference of what I had to cut down on the drivers side as compared to the same area shown here untouched that's on the passenger side.

I'm still working through this issue some but I'm getting closer to the point that I can use a little filler in the gaps and sand it down some. You can see that the top of the headlight bucket is now flush with the fender at the top joint and the sides have a cleaner join between the nose piece and the fender all the way down the sides.

This one area of the build is a true challenge to overcome but a little "lovin'" straightens it all out.

Another area that got some attention was the door handles. In these times of available AM there was just no room at all for these OOB door handles.

So off they came and after smoothing everything out some....here is the replacement resin handle from Fireball Models. Since I've put effort in elsewhere I saw it only fitting that I shouldn't start skimping now.

I think I have every available 1964-73 Mustang in my stash except this one. That I know of anyway. THey're worthwhile tips about the fit. Those door handles look so much better, I wasn't aware that they were available. really enjoying your build.

That's what I thought at first, but it's the A-6 night fighter version. I don't know if they were ever used.

I've got a couple of books on these aircraft and a Tamiya A-6 in the stash. I don't believe that any of these aircraft ever saw combat from the reading that I've done. I do remember a story I read a quick story about Werner Lerche flying one to to Oberpfaffenhofen and having to evade an enemy aircraft (in which he succeeded in doing so) but no combat missions were ever flown with any of the variants as far as I know.

   Short story behind this ?? I was seeking help from my local Vet Center where an Army Vet set me up for where I am today.....He REALLY likes F-14 Tomcats... I promised to build him one...7yrs ago. Last summer he was almost killed in a car wreck. Today be is back helping Vets and will walk again someday. I started the Tomcat a few weeks ago, just the mission weapons load out and how I'm going to display it.

    May I try to post pix in this thread as I really owe "Joe", as said because of him I have come to be here today.

Hi fellas. I'm having some technical problems with posting so I have been unable to post your completed pic of the Mig 21 crown. Hopefully this will be resolved soon. Regardless of that there is some very impressive work happening here.

Steve, that Dornier looks amazing. I would never have thought it was an older Revell kit.

John, the F-16 looks fantastic. Well done.

Joe, your efforts on this Mustang is nothing short of awesome. Fantastic.

Mustang: Those aftermarket door handles are a huge improvement!

Well.....I knew I was gonna need to have more room topside in the engine bay so that the air cleaner wouldn't contact the bottom of the hood so I got to thinkin..........I've got the AMT GT-350 in the stash with a good factory hood scoop on it but the hood wouldn't interchange with the regular Mustang hood because the nose on the GT-350 is longer which means the hood on that car is longer. So...why not just use the scoop? I went to work and scribed the cut out area that I needed to start removing the scoop from the GT-350 hood.

All cut out and ready for trimming up to all sides of the scoop:

A slight bit of clean up remains but I just sanded and filed up to the sides and then sanded the front from the bottom till I was able to remove the areas right in front of the air intake.

A little more clean up and I'll start working this onto the regular hood after I cut out the opening in the bottom of it for the air cleaner to sit up into.

  Badda boom badda bing and ya got a hood scoop. My skills have A LOOOONG way to get to this level. I'm up to try though. Great choice on the color Mustang, gonna be a reall pertty pony.

moving along on this OOB corsair nothing fancy. I sprayed preshading flat black and some mottleing with flat white and nato black with in the pannels.

Armornut, I personally have no problem with your request regarding the F14 build for the bloke who helped you out. It is a bit outside of the GB concept, but if nobody else has any strong objections, I am happy to go with it.

Incidentaly fellas, I need some help with the badge for this build. I have no idea how to do this. A suggestion was put forward showing a couple of glasses touching, as in a toast, and the saying "to absent friends". If folks are okay with this we will run with it, but I nned someone to create it, as I have no idea how to.

   Thanks Dodgy, if I get off my duff and get set up to post pix I may include it. I do agree it is oustide the reason of the GB so. If it really is that important to me I really should start a WIP.  It's all good mate, I'm still a happy camper.

As a vet, like many others here, the guy helping vets get their due, almost getting killed, back working with vets again and trying to get on his feet and walk again, I don't have an issue.  The man deserves anything nice coming his way, for once.

Nice work on the hood/scoop.  As much attention to detail as the rest of the build.

You're making great time on the Corsair, almost down to the end of it.

Dodgy, if possible, can you change my entry to the Hasegawa 1/48 RF4-E, in German markings.

Lot better kit for my skill set.

Nick: Cool! I good a little work on Toshi's Corsair here over the weekend too. I went with painting the fighter dark blue and post-shaded the center of each panel with a lighter blue. Not sure if this will work better than what you're doing though. 

Every time I've ever needed any help with a GB badge good ol' jgeratic(Jack) was able to help me out. I think I put one together once but it wasn't anywhere near what he could do. Unless somebody else out there is good with this kind of stuff that's who we could ask and he's always been more than willing to help out. 

Made a little more progress. I got some paint on the body yesterday. 

Still got a little more working in and a small amount of clean up left to do but the hood scoop is now on the hood.
