Got the shop all setup so I started on the Rufe.  Not much to share just yet, but after 10 months it's good to be back at the bench.

So glad to see you back at it. I have this kit so I am curious to watch it go together.

After doing some research I figured Tamiya  XF-76 was the color... looks way too green so I'll have to do something like an IJN grey over it.  Cowl is the right color from Mr Color.  Grrr...

Thanks,

John

Looks really good. Don't beat yourself up over the color. I did a ton of research before I built my Zero and apparently NOONE agrees on the real color. Some say white, others grey, etc. I looked at as many untouched panels as i could find and settled on a white/ grey with subtle undertones of grey green. I'd say you are likely not far off and for all we know it may be spot on. Close enough. It looks great. Keep going.

Thanks BK - may hit it with Mr Color IJN gray which is way lighter.  Not a rivet counter but damn... not sure it was a lima bean.

Thanks,

John

So I repainted the rufe again Indifferent but now I like it.  Can't decide on which wash to apply so testing sand & grey.

Thanks,

John

Looking good, John. The color is close enough for my untrained eyes. As far as the washes. I would go with what you like most, but some sort of combo of the two would likely work good also.

First time I ever had negative results from Flory wash - must be incomplete clearcoat on the bottom.  Went with old pastels for light weathering.

BTW - first model done in the new house.  Been about a year!

Anyhow - she's done.  Pick whichever pic you like for the front page

Lots of residue left over from the Flory wash...not sure what happend but I figured the bottom of a seaplane would be dirty anyway :)

May break aout the Arado next BK

Thanks,

John

Wow, John! That really came out super nice. I think you nailed the color in the end and the underside looks convincing as with the prop wash and salt one would expect some staining and discoloration. Super outcome on this one, it looks fantastic. I will update the front page. If you do the Arado, I am super keen to see that too.

Despite your negative results with Flory washes (which I can't see ANYTHING negative about it) this is one good turn out John. A beautiful Rufe man.....really.

I thought I had replied to this before and maybe I did, but hey, I'm only half way through my coffee yet...

That's a great looking Rufe John. Always a favorite j-aircraft of mine and I love those simple one color schemes. your result looks real sharp and that canopy looks great. Nice work.

Thanks very much. It was a tough built, mostly my own fault though.

Nice Rufe! I have this kit in my stash, but man you finished that in a month. I don't think I have finished a kit that quick ever.
