PJ,
Hold off on the canopy then?
[/quote-]
Yes Gary, hold on to your canopies for now. I was VERY surprised to get a fast response from them. Hopefully they will send good ones. Thanks for offering so let's see what happens.
Too many models to build, not enough time in a lifetime!!
Got a very apologetic reply from Revell today, and re sending parts again. Fingers crossed.
Y'all are making some great progress. These builds are looking amazing!
Yikes! I can't believe it's been a month since my last post! Before I share the latest progress, let me say that I'm impressed with the work going on. Quality work all around, and I'm looking forward to seeing everyone's finished builds. Keep it up, everyone!
OK, so I was able to get some progress made on my Lightning. I was able to get the resin wheels and landing gear painted up. I also got the prop assemblies done. Oh, and some decals and detail painting. I did have one minor setback though. During decaling, my kit slip off the jig and knocked the canopy and armored glass loose. I was able to repair the canopy, but in an effort to avoid marring the inside of the windscreen with glue, I decided to leave off the armored glass. Oh well. It wouldn't be one of my build if something didn't go wrong.
Anyway, here's where I'm at. Keep in mind that the prop and landing gear assemblies are just dry-fitted for the sake of the photos.
Slowly but surely my Lightning is getting there. Of course, comments, questions, and criticisms welcome.
Thanks for looking!
Cheers,
-O
-It's Omar, but they call me "O".
Not good service at all.
I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

Bish PJ, never seen a canopy like that before. Clearly an issue with the molding process.

I'm sure they are MORE than aware of the crappy clear molding issue. On top of that they sent me an eaqually crappy replacement that took 5 weeks to arrive.
To be continued.
Nice progress frank.
Thanks Gary, was confused cause it has a different name on the email. No rush and I will check to see which one Contrary Mary used.
plasticjunkie Did you get my email titled P51D canopy?

Finally. Some headway on the 5th ERS Thunderbolt today. I pre-shaded the airplane with Tamiya NATO Black. I cut out a painting step. No primer. I cleaned the Thunderbolt really good with 70% isopropyl alcohol then proceeded with the pre-shading. Right now I have a Checkertale Mustang and P-40 I'm working on and I painted the checkerboard pattern on both with no primer and had no problems. I'm hoping the Thunderbolt goes the same way.
OK. In the stash: Way too much to build in one lifetime...
Sorry! Try the corrected E-mail address above.
Gary just sent you an email
Just try gfowler2012 at yahoo dot com. You should know how to interpret that.
Gary
PS> The kit apparently tries to replicate the different types of canopy.

There seems to be a "Intermediate Inglewood" type, a "Late Inglewood" type and a "Dallas" type. You'll probably need the "Intermediate Inglewood" or the "Late Inglewood", depending on the date your building.
Thanks Gary. I have a feeling that Revell will send another messed up set. This time took about 5 weeks for the parts to arrive. The pm feature is still not working so figuring out how to privately contac you.
If Revell doesn't come through, and it may take awhile, I can let you have one of mine. The front has only one, so I need that, but your welcome to the other two.
Gary, this is how my parts look. Notice the distortion in the circled areas. The front windshield panel is very wavy. The distortion is not noticeable at a quick glance but a closer look reveals the imperfections.
The windshield side panels look good.
Your bad luck with the canopy got me to check my own for the late version Mustang. My eyesight might not be so good, but they look fine to me. You have my sympathy.
Finally received the replacement clear parts from Revell for my P51D and are equally distorted as the first ones! So much for good quality control. I sent them another email with pictures this time so there is confusion. This is frustrating.
fotofrank Fearless, your checkerboard nose on that Mustang is very well done. It's so good I thought the nose was a decal. Kudos of a superb paint job.

Thanks Frank, however I don't want to be taking credit for something I didn't do, those checkerboards are the kit decals. I'm sorry for the confusion.
Nicw work everyone. Hopefully I can start this GB soon; although, I may need to do something simple first to ensure I finish. I have a few 1/72 P-47's in the stash (Tamiya, Hasegawa and Academy versions...).. I plan on doing one for a GB on "another platorm" so I might as well add them here as well... Probably gona be 'Little Demon' from 353rd FG or Academy 'Eileen' from 78th... Still plan on doing the Airfix P-51D ultimately though...
On the Bench: Too Much
Fearless. looking real good , waiting for final pics.
Nick.
Will do TJ.
Fearless, thats looking very nice, can't wait to see the final pics.
Fearless I know this is a little late. But Lifelike Decals did an anthology of Big Beautiful Doll. If you look at version 3 and 4 they do seem to have a yellow outline and no checked wing tips

Looks good fearless. Your BBD is giving me the Mustang itch...Although, the 6 on my shelf tell me I need to build something different.
Looking forward to seeing the finished product!
Looks Great Fearless
Thanks,
John
