Yee Haw! This one is about wrapped up. I just need to attach the drop tanks, flaps, propeller, antenna, add a fiddlly bit to the inside of the canopy, a handful of decals, and the final coat of clear...

[edit] the weathering looks a lot stronger in the pics than in person Sad

Looking awesome Crown.  Nothing represents the 8th better than that!  That is the 1/72 Haswegawa kit?  It's huge!

Thanks,

John

P.J. Beautiful detail work.

FotoFrank. very colorful F-82 looks awesome.

Fearless. stunning P-51 nice decal work.

I wrapped  up base coat on both sides now some drying time. I painted the top with vallejo O/D but the lighting makes look greenish, well that will change anyway.

Good evening folks,

I'm in need of some P-51 wisdom. Hopefully y'all will know something that I don't...

I have not seen instructions to fill this hole for a particular variant. However notice the difference in the paint and decal instructions from one aircraft to the next:

Any insight would be great!

Next check out the decal colors. I have always understood that Landers' aircraft code had a red outline.

I knew he had different variantions of the paint scheme, but I am not aware of a yellow outline. Again, maybe I've been reading all the wrong stuff. But this just looks strange...

These are definitely not red...

Perhaps this is the supposed yellow outline version...

and surprise, surprise, no checkerboard decals for the wing tips.

maybe I'm the victim of Mandela effect, but Eduard and I are not seeing eye to eye on this bird at all...

Please help!!!

Great checkerboard fearless!

In the pattern: Scale Shipyard's 1/48 Balao Class Sub! leaning out the list...NOT! Ha, added to it again - Viper MkVii, 1/32 THUD & F-15J plus a weekend madness build!

The F-82 Twin Mustang is complete. Finally. Not my favorite build. This is the last one of these old Monogram F-82 kits I'm going to build for some time. Anyway, enough of my complaining. While the aircraft wears the 8th Air Force logo on the right fuselage, the airplane was based at Kearney AFB, near Kearney, Nebraska. The model is finished with Alclad Dark Aluminum over a grey enamel primer. Decals are from Starfighter. The decals are very thin and are easy to apply. The heavily colored markings like the 8th AF logo did need Solvaset to snuggle down onto the raised panel lines.

OK. In the stash: Way too much to build in one lifetime...

I'm likeing the look of that frank. Are you adding the P-47 into the GB. If so am i right in thinking thats 1/48th.

Thanks, Bish. The F-82 has been a real chore but it is beginning to look pretty good overall.

Yes, I am adding the Thunderbolt to the group build. The kit is the Tamiya P-47D Razorback in 1/48 scale. I think I'm getting my *** back after a mid-winter slump.

I don't plan anymore surprises.

This is the Thunderbolt I'm building, plus invasion stripes.

I haven't found the Loon Models resin accessories for the build yet.

I take it the bits you need are the ones under the wings.

Yeah, that's right, Bish. The pressed paper long range fuel tank isn't a problem. Every Mustang and Thunderbolt kit has a pair of those. Loon Models made the life rafts under the wings and flare attachments under the fuselage, but they are long out of production.

Just incase: Loon Models LO48219. Maybe someone has this lurking in their spares box.

Frank that RWB nose looks so smooth. Nice paint work there!

Plasticjunkie looks like you've  done some valuable time in that main wheel well with the lead wire!

The stencils finally came in the mail. Added the red stencils to the NMF sheetmetal and busied up the area with wiring.

Finished the R, W, and B trim on the F-82 today. The red and white are Tamiya colors while the blue is MM Insignia Blue enamel. If you look closely, you can see where the Tamiya tape pulled up the Alclad from the primer. So, I'll be doing some touch-up on the Alclad after the blue enamel cures for a couple of days . . . more masking. After that comes the blue on the noses and the anti-glare panels on the noses.

A build I am much more proud off. A Tamiya P-47D Razorback. The finished build will represent a Thunderbolt of the 5th ERS based at Boxted. This is the cowling for the airplane. The red and white are Tamiya paints, the blue is MM Insignia Blue enamel. All of the ERS Thunderbolts had this red, white and blue cowling.

F-82 looks good, Frank.

Thanks, Jeaton. This Twin Mustang has not been my favorite build. I've built three of these old Monogram kits in the past couple of years. I'm pretty sure this one will be the last one I build. I still have two more up in my stash closet. I will persevere and finish this and make it look good despite my attitude toward the kit. Maybe I'll pose all three together after I finish this one.

I found my olive drabs had dried up, so I ordered new paint along with replenishments of Mr Surfacer.

It just came this afternoon, and the paint had frozen.  Arrgh!

But at least I can start masking the canopy frames.
