Thanks, he turned out way better than I'd expected. Looking forward to seeing what sort of camo you come up with. For the moon I'd think maybe different greys and some black for a shadow look?

Hi,
Here's my 1st cut at a base coat.
I am currently planning on using this shade of gray as one of the two main colors for the space suit. I'm trying to go for something a little like this image from Wikipedia, but in shades of gray. I'm also thinking about making the two main color areas in relatively large in area, and not adding as many of the small "chocolate chip" markings, but I i'll have to see how everything works.
Pat
PS. While I've found a number of images online from the show "For All Mankind" showing astronauts holding rifles, I haven't really seen much in way of how those weapons might be carried when not in use. Because of the large space suit backpack and limited mobility that the astronaut likely has while wearing a space suit it doesn't seem like it would be easy to try and "sling a weapon over your shoulder", but a rifle seems to big to try and attach anywhere else
In zero gravity the recoil of a rifle could really ruin your day...
Your "chocolate chip" patch made me think of last year's figure fun:
Good luck with your build and have a nice day
Paweł
All comments and critique welcomed. Thanks for your honest opinions!

I'm thinking something kind of similar to this, but I haven't figured out how to paint it yet.
Right now I am also trying to 3D print an M4 Rifle/Carbine to see how it would fit with the model.
I did this stinger gunner years ago following The Verlinden Way on figure painting. I highly reccomend it to anyone painting figures
Here's the camo
Thanks,
John
I found a 3D model of an M4 Carbine on the internet and 3D printed it. It turns out that the model that I used may not have been meant specifically for 3D printing and was kind of complex (with a hollow stock). Overall it printed well, and looks quite detailed, though the stock did crack when I was removing the print supports. I was able to glue it though so I hope it will be OK.
I'm thinking of maybe trying to somehow affix the gun across the astronauts chest when not in use, like shown in the 1st figure. One main issue will probably be too make sure if doesn't intefere with any of the life support hoses though.
In the 1st picture you can see a small ring on the gun stock that the printer was able to depict and in the 2nd figure you can actually see how my printer was actually able to show the barrel opening. Overall I have been very happy with the capabilities of the printer.
PS. Please ignaore the paint job on the astronaut's face for now. I've been experimenting and haven't gotten things quite right yet. He kind off looks like he has space cooties or some form of "acute progressive zombie-tosis" right now
After much debating and staring at the busts in my collection (no, not that kind of bust...the resin and plastic kind...wait...moving on) I flipped a coin and opted for War Daddy:
Young Miniatures 1/10 2nd Armor Division "Hell on Wheels"
I assume for to avoid licensing fees, they couldn't actually call him War Daddy...but I certainly will. Now I will need to watch Fury a couple more times.

G'day all. Please accept my apologies for not checking in over the last couple of weeks, but domestic duties have kept me way to busy to get to the bench and computer. Then I picked up a bad gut bug. Knocked me flat for a couple of weeks and now I'm playing 'catch up'. Not that I'm needed, Real G and Gam your fascination for Japanese horror and oddities was very entertaining! I know nothing of this subject, but Gam, you have to do that girl coming out of the TV! Awesome figure.
Great to have you on board Pawel! I will add you to the roster.
PFJN2, great to have you join us too, but you were a bit quick off the mark old son, the GB isn't supposed to start until the 1st of December. However, if no one has any objections, we can get underway now.
Glamdring, I will update the roster with the details of your choice. Looking forward to your build, the Young Miniatures range are superb.

I long to live in a world where chickens can cross the road without having their motives questioned
Welcome back. You can start it anytime you like. I have been slow this year for building but now that Modelpalooza is happening this weekend, I can get back into doing something. I'll have to remember to take my camera this time.
Heya Dodgy, hope you're feeling better now. I hope your wife is better too.
And thanks, if you and G want to see Sadako-san I've give her a shot. She came in over the weekend, I'll see about posting some photos.
PFJN2: I like the camo, nice work! When I think space soldiers I think of the guys in Moonraker! Not the best Bond film but it was... interesting...
All those entries look very cool guys- going to fun to follow along with this!
All good Gam, fit as a Mallee bull and twice as dangerous!!
Dodgy All good Gam, fit as a Mallee bull and twice as dangerous!! Dodgy
Good to hear she's better Dodgy!
I was going to get photos of the kit parts up and then got busy yesterday. I'll try to get them up before the build starts in two months!
Okay here's the figure. From her head to the back of the TV it's about six inches/ 15cm...
Only seven parts...
And I got this cool videotape, but I don't have a VCR any longer. Hmmm, maybe I could make a copy to send to you Real G to translate for me???? I'd need it by the end of the week though...
The VCR tape has "Sadako" wtitten on it. Oh wait, if you watch it, you die in a week.
“Ya ya ya, unicorn papoi!”
So what happens if you only watch part of it?
If I had that austronaut kit I would end up leaving the eyes the way they are and doing something a little stranger to it. The eyes reming me of that old British move "The Earth DIes Screaming".

Really!?! I just need to get someone else to watch the copy I made though......

Yeah if the VCR eats the tape- do you end up half-dead- aka badly hurt?
I like your idea with the astronaut- that's pretty creepy!
That kit is awesome Gam. Sooo creepy. Can't wait to see what you do with it.
Great thought on the astronaut kit ikar01! My weird mind jumped straight to zombie moon monsters!
Thanks Dodgy!
I will say the original movie is well worth watching. The two sequels and the pre-sequel are best avoided. They have a few good scenes but not many. I found them pretty much a waste of time.
There's a Hollywood remake too though I've not seen it. I've heard it's good though.
G: Just pulling your leg a little there. I had an old VCS tape lying around so I dug it out and wrote 'SADAKO' on it. I don't think there's anything cursed on there just a twenty year old copy of the Babylon 5 TV movie 'Thirdspace' taped off TV that's probably almost unwatchable at this point.
Babylon 5....I have the entire series and all the movies on disc. Now all I have to do is get a disc player since my two are out of commission.

Yeah, it was my all time favorite TV series. I need to blow the dust off my DVDs and watch them again soon.
There's supposed to be a remake coming up but the rumors have all the hallmarks that this will be a massive disastor. I hope the thing is canceled...
Hope you get a DVD player soon, I couldn't do without mine. I've been on a horror movie binge before Halloween.
I am progressing slowly, but making some progress. Here is my attempts at the base camoflage. I still need to add the black and white spots, and then maybe give it an overall black or gray wash to darken it a little and help pick out some of the folds, creases and seams.
I;ve also rotated his hands about 90 degrees since he will not be reaching for a ladder like in the parent kit.
Regards
I added some small spots to the camouflage and then gave it a wash or two. I started with a Velleho Grey Wash but it was kind of light, so I added a second coat using Testers Black Enamal Wash. In general the Testers stuff seems to always come out a little dark on me and I often let it sit for a minute before rubbing some of it off. If it is still too dark I will sometimes brush over it with enamal thineer and rub it down again. Unfortunately, in a few places, the combination of the wash, thinner and rubbing ended up rubbing off my base acrylic paint, so I will have to go back over the figure again and do a few touch ups, but the figure below shows how he looks right now.
I'll join. Never attempted a figure before, but I've got the Bandai 1/12 Mandalorian in my stash. Good reason to give it a go.
Pat: Looks cool to me! Like the camo scheme! And good luck getting the messed up areas cleaned up.
PhilliePhan79: Hope Dodgy is fine with you joining- the more the merrier!
ou could always give that austronaut There's decals for various types and sizes of eyes. I think they are put out by Archer. You could always give that astronaut some type of animal or weird eyes using their decals.

Thanks. I will look into that.
Welcome aboard PhilliePhan79, I'll get you onto the roster. I think it's fantastic that you're willing to have a crack at something you've never tried before.
Ben, your astronaut is looking fantastic.
Dodgy.
So much has happened! I hadn't realized I didn't have this thread subscribed and just thought it was quiet.
I've rectified that oversight!
Gamera, glad to know I'm not the only one with an on air VHS recording of the Babylon 5 pilot and just like everyone else, the complete series on DVD. One of my all time favorite Sci-Fi TV series! Apparently they remastered the series but I've only seen it available as a digital purchase. It would be interesting to see how the quality differs.
Pat, your astronaut is coming out amazing. Like where you're taking it!
On the Bench:
Bandai 1/72 Defender Destroid
Phoenix: Cool! I hadn't even heard about the remastered series. Personally the old CGI still looks okay to me, not great but okay.
Dodgy: I'm currently working on a 23cm/9in figure of the elf maiden Deedlit from the anime 'Record of the Lodoss War'. Is it any issue if I were to post photos of her here? The Deedlit figure I've already started on and is about 1/3rd done. I'm building her as a Christmas present for an old friend so I had to start early and keep going if I'm going to meet the deadline.
But since Ben has already started his maybe I can just post the figure as motivation for when the GB starts in earnest next week? I'm still building the Sadako figure for this GB- Deedlit would be just for the heck of it.
