Tweety, I use a wash over the panel lines. I usualy leave it for a few minutes to dry before I wipe the excess away with a chux with thinners on.

Darren, that Spitfire looks good to me. But then we are always more critical of our own work and easily find any imperfections no matter how small. Smile [:)]

IT"S DONE!!!!!

Finally the Spitfire Mk.VIII is complete and I'm not to unhappy with the overall outcome (although there are a lot of little things I'm not happy with) and I have learnt a lot using a few new techniques that I hadn't tried before.

Next time I'll try and do a bit better and pick up on some the things that caught me out with this one.

Thanks very much for letting me share the Group Build, it was a great fun and I'm really looking forward to next years.

Dave, that's a beautiful looking Mossie Wow!! [wow]Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]. Great job, I'm looking forward to the A-20.

Here are some photos of my completed Mosquito. I have also included a photo of the original aircraft (first in the line up). I am intending to finish the A-20G this weekend on an Airforce Cadet Modelling weekend i'm running.

Thanks for your kind words guys, muchly appreciated.

As for the repair in the fuselage, it is there, or maybe I'm being a little pedantic.

I am defiantely up for another Aussie GB if one happens again, even though it was pure hell, it was definately fun.

And yeah Jules, the 76Sqd is gonna happen I think, just have to see how many others are keen enough to attempt the Sabre.
The next one I do won't be any where near as tough, seeing as I've 'cut my teeth' on this one so to speak.

Jules, darson, hanging out too see some Spit pics, honestly thought I'd be the last one to finish.
Really want too see some Sierra pics to.

Well I've just emerged from the modeling dungeon and after hours more work and the Spitfire is just about done.

Tonight I hacked the hatch out of the Hasegawa fuselage and installed an Ultracast item, finished off the final clear flat after applying exhaust and cannon stains, glued the undercarriage together, attached the prop and attached the canopy.

Tomorrow I will add the final few details including the landing lights etc, etc and that's it. Photo time.

Jules I'm really glad to hear that the shark’s mouth worked out for you because it really does look cool.

Cheers

After 2 months of headaches, buckets of filler, sheet after sheet of sandpaper, and enough grey hairs to warrant a blue rinse, the Sabre is done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, for the moment anyways. I still need to place the number '22' on the nose, but the decals supplied in the kit will not fit, they are toooooo large, only because the resin nose piece supplied is tooooo small in depth, and without covering up half the gun port, there is no way to put them on.
I have a sheet coming from the US with some numbers that will fit, will wait till then.
Here are some pics-

Cockpit (duh!)

Side view.
The decals appear to have some silvering in them, and the blue seems washed out, but that is from the BMF reflecting through the decal due to the flash on the camera, in reality, the decals look quite pleasent.

This isn't the best picture, but shows the dont walk lines I masked with Mask It.
If you guys get a chance to use this stuff, do it, it is magic!
If you look closely, you can just make out the repair line along the spine.

Well, thats it for now, it was a pleasure (and pain) to build with you guys, and hope to do it again in the new year.

I'm still waitin on those decals Darson, everything else is done, all i need to do is stick the shark mouth decals and the ID codes on then gloss, wash and then the final flat coats......
If the decals don't get here by the last week of the month then i'll go for Caldwells markings, all i'll need to do is paint a white fueselage band on and some black stripes on the spinner........Jules......

I will forgive you for posting in the wrong thread mike, all the same the model looks superb especially seeing that it was build under 25 hours, it would take me 25 hrs to scratchbuild the cockpit alone.

Tweety. The colour that they used for the blue in the roundels was sometimes listed as "Insignia Blue" We had a can of it under that name in one of the radio workshops I was based at (won't say how we got it). It has also had different names depending on who supplied it and when, the specs for the paint meant nothing when you needed it in a hurry. Whistling [:-^]Whistling [:-^]and now to get shot down by the mainstream areo modelersWhistling [:-^]Whistling [:-^] try either humbrol paint numbers 104 Matt Oxford Blue or 15 Gloss Midnight Blue for this colour.

I needed to build something easy and in record time for me to finish an entry for a Convertiplanes GB on ARC, I am co-moderator on...

here it is Smile [:)]

1:48 Lindberg Convair XFY-1 Pogo built in under 25 hours.

I purchased this blast from the past as WASMEx 2004 for $5, part of a $200 stash of models I brought home from the "buy, swap and sell"

This kit hails from the 50's and is all of about 20 parts and that includes the boarding ladder. Plenty of raised rivets and panel lines and NO cockpit at all.

After the second attempt to make the 1:32 Glencoe XV-1 Convertiplane, I needed to build something for the Convertiplanes GB. So I set myself a task; to make a presentable model in 4 days, something I have not done since my slap 'em together days as a teen.

First task was to scratchbuild a cockpit, now I had no references for assistance here, so the cockpit is a complete fabrication. Tub and side consoles out of plasticard with decals from an old decal sheet to depict side consoles and instrument panel. I had nothing in my bits box to represent the bang seat so out came a damaged KMC skyraider seat. Joystick was out of formed wire.

I did not attempt to restore any raised detail whatsoever and it only needed a bit of CA as filler. Not bad for an old kit!

Decals from an old Microscale F-14A sheet as the kit decals were total crap.

comments welcome!!

Fun build!
cheers

I'II hopefully get a chance to final spray the serria tonight. Have been trying to get around to doing it but have been busy. Their is never surficant time in the day.

Thanks for that darson, will try and get some before the end of the month.

Managed to fix the seam, and hit it with some Alclad 2, there is a discernable mark where the repair was done, but after all the messing around over the last 2 months, I have forced myself into accepting this is a difficult build.

Will finish off what I can, and put it all in the 'experience' folder for the next Sabre I do.

Can't beleive I want to do another one, must be having a psychotic episode or sumthing.
