I think wood looks better, personally. If you want to make them, you could try plastic card. Might be easier, but cost more, to get a PE set. Might find some on sale somewhere

Put styrofoam on top of the wood. This will allo you to alter the elevation like hills and ditches. Be sure to seal the Wood or it can warp (only if you use celluclay or plaster)

i think ill go with wood, my putty sticks best to wood, and my dio is going to be relatively flat so i wont need foam, im almost done with all the scratchbuilding, then ill need to put the wheels on, base color on, camo, all the stowage, crew figs, snow, branches, and the base... thats easier said than done...

Well, the cold weather is hampering my airbrushing now too. I am set up in the basement, so it isn't terribly cold, but cold enough. It's only about 9 outside now. Darn, what a waste of time,

Well, good and bad day, Went to the LHS and I picked up Dragons volksgrenadiers ardeans 1944 and Im gonna make a dio with them and My M-10. Some time I be able to order my Tiger and I'll throw the 101st airborne figs in with it. My M-10 will be around december 23-25. Its gonna be abandoned by the crew when they were having breakfast and were suprised by a German Patrol. Might call it "Frohe Weihnachten" which is German for Merry Christmas. An M-10 being the gift. I dunno.

no the bad, I wont be able to paint until wednesday. Drivers EdBoohoo [BH]

Rebel- you can also say Merry Christmas as "Fröhliches Weihnachten". Not sure which is more common. I knew those German classes would pay off!!

Boy I missed reading about all of you. ( It took about 1 1/2 hrs to read up on all of you) I had to work almost all of Nov. to cover for vacations of other people. Heres an update on myself. I finished my first Duce and half, I just got the 2nd one this week. I'm in the process of making about 32 sitting and standing men. I'm doing a Dio. kind of like in the Band of Brothers were they ride to Bastone in trucks, and they dismount when they get there. My daughter loves that movie, so shes going to build a jeep to put into the dio also. Get this, it came with the decals for the 506th PIR. 101 div. Shes pumped. Its her first model. Anyway Thanx for all the past great tips. Larry

wo ist mein gepunktet lederhoesen? (where are my pokedotted lederhosen) i love that....

German 2 (my teacher has a lazy eye u cant tell where its looking... and when she clears her throat (every 2 min.) it sounds like a Model T engine trying to turn over)

i put a mix of durham's water putty (powder) and elmers glue on the hull, it will give it the appearance of mud stuck on or snow.... i found the perfect bush to take my evergreen branches off of... and i did some dr. frankenstein on the commander, he has an arm from 2 figs. (well actually they were extra arms, and i swaped his arm with the driver's)

The German's add "e"s at the end of adjectives to indicate a feminine noun, but it's just "gut" when used with a masculine or neuter noun.

It's pronounced "zommer-schlooss- fer-kowff"

Sherman is progressing-90% together. I ended up adding plastic to the underside of the Tamiya kit, put putty in the recessed welds (turned out better than I thought after painting) and 'slugged' the entire tank & treads. The recent article in FSM on the Firefly build was very helpful on doing the treads. Hope to have pics soon. The diorama is on hold for now. Will be content with the tank alone! I have a much greater respect for the people & the work that goes into 1/35th scale armor.

i got enough "evergreen branches" to cover the whole tank! i painted the whole think yellow oxide....i dont know if thats too bright but it looks awesome! next have to make the mg mount outta something.... then paint all the wheels, and then i can start on the brown and green for the camo.. STILL DONT HAVE WOOD FOR THE BASE THOUGH!!!!!

I am curious about what you made the branches out of as well. I made my bases last week out of walnut. My uncle is a big woodworker so I borrowed his shop., Turned out nice. A few years ago I saw a sugestion about making a base from a picture fram. The guy went to Michaels and looked around and found a frame that when set faced down, looked like a base. He took out the back and glass and put a piece of plywood or something into the frame and built his scenery on that. Seal the plywood!

i was thinkin about that.... i make all my bases..... i make them out of wood molding for the frame then put some ply on top, glue, varnish and i got a great base!!
i might saw a different dio base in half to make this one......it OK its unfinnished and a PBR does need soooo much base...
i made the branches out of leaves (i think u can call it that) of a bush in my yard...it does look like evergreen as in it has needles but it looks a lot like branches from farther off....

Hey all-couple of pics (bad ones at that) of the Sherman. Hope to get it decaled, weathered, tools attached & 'whitewash' splashed on by Sunday. However, the master bedroom still has to be painted and it's a project that the wife wants, so.....
