I finally got more than a few minutes to work on mine and I have the bottom hull painted and covered with mud. Tonight I hope to get the road wheels painted and put on. Next comes the turret

me too. I have one figure left for a dio I really finished in October. But I just cant seem to finish him.

Well, with Band of Brothers on the History channel again, I was watching and the last two episodes were Bastonge and the attack on Foy. Lots of dio Ideas. I would really like one os Spears running through the German lines to link up with I company.

I also have one I might try for this build, let me know what you think...
The shot at the end of the Bastonge episode is just the snow with lots of footprints and blood were ther was a wonded man. If I made this base with the blood, would that be ok? I dont think so, but there are alot of people who dont see modeling death and things like that appropriate. What do you guys think? Id add a fig standing over the the bloody ground.

Doesn't bother me at all. I am of the mind set that if something offends you, don't look, watch, read, etc.

The hardest thing is trying to make it look realistic in 1/35. Most Dios I've seen with wounded soldiers look like someone went mad with a tin of ferrari red paint. It could well be a case of "less is more."

Re the figures, I'm in the same boat which is part of the reason why the Bulge dio I started 12 months ago or more is still incomplete!

Well, then we all have to give each other moral support and finish our figures!

Well, the box on the Sherman has been opened-that's it. However, the downstairs has been completely painted and trimmed-and the wife is happy-so I'm ahead of schedule and can work on plastic soon. And I'm getting good with vinyl crack filler-might be an application there someday. I am rethinking my position on doing a diorama-the more I research, the more I'm overwhelmed. Think I'll finish the tank first, then the diorama is a maybe.

It sucks you in. You'll do the dio because you can't help it!

HEY! is it too late to join??
i ve been watchin band of brothers and i happen to watch the attack on Foy one and it inspired me to model..... but i have a delema......what to do??? money is tight and i have plenty of models on the 'need of fix" pile so i think i should do one......i have a sherman (barely any fix up), a panther (a lot of fix up!!) and an 88 (almost no fix up but needs a new dio base) im kinda leaning towards the panther but i need pics of one from the bulge....

i think i'm going to go the route of the bare trees like in the FSM diorama.... Got plenty of those dead weeds around, being backed up to the woods.....

Yeah, I was planning to walk the dog around my property and try to find some nice weeds too. II wonder how he anchored them? I need to get some wood to make my base too.

well, i'm building my terrain from modeling clay, so i'll plant them in the clay and let them harden.... and when all my trees and stump are in place, i'll add the dirt and snow and brush.....

right next to my office is a woodworking company that gives me nice bases whenever i need them........

This is the state of my dio at the moment (I've also got some more unfinished figures and a tree!)
Its based around Kampfgruppe Pieper heading towards La Gleize. The base is celluclay and railway modelling tarmac.
The kits are both Tamiya with a bit of PE thrown in for good measure.
The figures are Dragon

I really must get this finished LOL!

Most of the references I've got show Panthers in the Ardennes without zimmerit. However there are one or two showing a zimmerit finish. I think you'd be safe either way unless you're modelling a particular tank, then you'd have to check your references.

Zimmerit application was ordered ceased on September 9th, 1944 with application stopping shortly after. Check your references- newly built Panthers for the Bulge would not have zimmerit

John, I looked into building this scene a while ago. I worked out that to get the whole scene of Spiers running past an 88 and a Tiger you'd need a MASSIVE diorama! I tried scaling it down with maybe just the 88 and the road with the wall at the end but in 1/35 you're still talking a BIG baseboard.
I sketched out the layout in scale on paper to get the proportions right and realised very quickly that I just didn't have the room.
If you want any stills from the DVD for reference I can post 'em or email 'em to you

That would explain the lack of them in the refs I've got but wouldn't exclude zimmerit fitted Panthers from being in the Ardennes 3 months after the order was given.

thanks a lot for those pics fiasco!! really helped.....
i have some questions...... 1. is the tank in your pics the only camo version of it? 2. did the commanders hatch have a gun on it? cuz my kit has one, it also has a driver window thing on the front, 3. i see there are no fenders on that tank....
i started the tear apart of the old kit.....pretty easy.... the hull was 2 pieces, and the wheels were so easy to take off...... the tank i built like 3 years ago.... is in desert yellow, no weathering, things falling apart and just a "deaths head" insignia on it.....
on the new FSM, the bulge dio is awesome!!! i wanna know where he got those evergreen tree branches on the tanks.....

some tanks had mg's mounted near the commanders coupala for AA fire. SO ya, you could put it on there.

Ive got a huge Normandy dio planned. I have the space but I dont think I want to tackle something as big yet. If I were to do the dio with Spears I would have him either running past the 88 or the tiger, but probably not both. I'd like to take you up on your offer though. Think you could get a pic of the scene at the end of Bastogne with the blood coverd snow and footprints? that would be great.

I got alot done tonight. Interiors all so I will paint it tommorow. I spent about 45 minutes putting together the 32 rounds ammo, and I still have to sand them.
I also got some of the rear done.

Right, fiasco. Just got to check your refs if you do a specific tank
