I've changed my mind about what to build...I am going to go for something a bit different. I want to start my build from scratch and build an aircraft. So this is what its going to be...
C-47 "Eightball Charlie" - One of the C-47 that took part in the relief mission to Bastogne. You can read the story here http://www.ninth-airforce.co.uk/440bastogne.htm

I've got an Italeri C-47 tucked away which will need a bit of modifying. I'm gonna try and source some decals for it,if not I'll either hand paint the nose art or make my own decals (should be interesting!Tongue [:P])

So dday, if you could amend my entry I promise not to change my mind again b4 11/1/04

Cool. Put me down for a Kampfgruppe Peiper diorama with the King Tiger as part of it, possibly near La Gleize. I need to do some more digging!

erich von-the king tiger wouldn't count, although you could finish and put it into a dio. You cannot start the dio before Nov. 1st

I'll put you two on the list..

Well boys and girls... you can count me in. I'll be doing a 1/35 M10 ersatz panther using the Tamiya tank and CMK conversion set.

Stir not the bitterness in the cup I have mixed for myself!

Count me in! I've been talked into it by Fiasco. I'm not 100% sure what it'll be yet as a dio. Either a Panther or King Tiger with undecided US vehicles (yet to decide what?). If someone is modelling the Sherman in Bastogne Town Square don't forget to leave off the commanders hatches. I got stuck in it last year after deciding to have a look inside! Not a good idea! What is the timescale available? I'm halfway through a King Tiger at the moment and wondered if I was allowed to use it?

I've got that book too, great book....

I was at a modelshow/swap meet (more swap than show) and I got a 1/35 M3A2, Ambulance jeep, and a Dodge 3/4 ton truck/jeep thing for 25 bucks.Thumbs Up [tup] I'm not sure if I'm going to do I dio but I probbably will...

The pic I added is in fact only half a tree. I've got a display cabinet which has limited leight between the shelves. I worked out the 1/35 height and it was too big for my cabinet so I only modelled the bottom half.
I used unpicked twine for the smallest branches. Likewise stuck on piece by piece to try and get them to 'hang down' like the real thing.

BTW, I also live in the country, so trees are all around. No need for picturesBig Smile [:D]. One of the upsides of living in BFE!!

Yeah, I made it out of wire. It's really not that hard and the results are amazing, even with the limited talent that I have. Fiasco, it's true, randomness is very hard to imitate. I myself have a tendency to try and make everything symetrical. When I made this tree I did it while watching TV. Kept my mind occupied. Seemed to work out well. The folliage is the tedious part. Piece by piece, clump by clump. I don't like the dipped in glue and rolled in folliage look. My $.02

The hardest thing with making trees is trying to get the shape right for a real type of tree rather than a generic round shape one.
I spent ages looking at photos and real trees. It could almost become an obsession if your not careful.

Fiasco, I did the same thing for the Dio for my Stug, not sure what kind of tree it is, but I think it turned out OK. I used the same book. Very Good Book. I think I like books as much as building.

I think I will go for the shadow box diorama so that I can control lighting. Grey and overcast is hard to do with regular lighting. We shall see.

Ted,
I've used the wire and plaster technique illustrated in the Osprey Terrain Modelling Masterclass book by Richard Windrow.
Here's my attempt at a 1/35 birch

These trees were common in the Ardennes particularly on more open spaces such as the roadsides as opposed to the dense forest around BAstogne.

This is from the site http://ardennes44.free.fr which has some truely inspirational photographs on it.

BTW, I've not started my build for the GB yet...honestWhistling [:-^]

I haven't decided what to do yet...
Over the last couple of years I've had some ideas for Bulge dioramas, but never really got past making the vehicles. My modelling pace is comparable to a tortoise on crutches!
Which means I plan, I start, I change onto a new project and never finish.
My first idea was inspired by Spiers' solo run at Foy from BOB, where he goes out to join the other unit. I built a Tiger and an 88 for that and bought a load or airborne figures (which remain in my loft!)
Then I had an idea for a Kampfgruppe Pieper dio, hence the King Tiger and the Schwimmwagen.
Then there was the Ambush at Poteau idea (Sourcing Half Tracks became an expensive pastime in the UK!)
So I really would like to partake of this GB, but what to build...hmmm...maybe an aircraft....Confused [%-)].
I'll keep you posted!

BTW I have quite a few photographs of the German tanks on display in the Ardennes (King Tiger/Panther) which I took last year on a trip there.
If I post them to my web space can I post a link on this Forum (in other words is that sort of thing allowed by FSM?)

I've already constructed King Tiger as the well known 222, and a Schwimmwagen. Is it within the rules to use these to construct a diorama of a Bulge setting? Or does the entire dio including vehicles have to be started and finished within the GB timescale?

Hey Andrew
I was looking at all the Hanomags in my Battle of the Bulge books, Your in luck, all the ones I found only had the German Cross, Main Vehicle number. Most of all the other markings were covered with snow or were painted over with white paint. But if you want to put some on anyway, remember that you’re dealing with the 6th Panzer Army (Dietrich), 5th Panzer Army (Manteuffel) 7th Army (Brandenberger). You can get a book from the library that would give you a complete list of all the different German Divisions. I know Tamiya gives you the correct decal set that goes with the Ardennes battle, (I built that same vehicle a few years ago and I looked them up then). Hope this helps. Larry

Charlesw, All you have to do is say you want in, you can decide what you want to build at any time during the GB.

SO I guess your question means you want to join so I'll put you on the list.

I know Tamiya makes a US WW 2 Infantry Weapons set, there might be one in there, also Academy makes a machine gun set that I think has 50's in it
