Steve, this the photo?
I didn't post this shot before because even though I was pretty sure that it's McKennon, it does not have any nose art at all and I had not done a whole bunch of research on it until now. But after a bit of looking around, I've come to find that this is the aircraft in which 'Mac' was shot down on August 28th, 1944.
Here's the same ship leading a mixed formation of aircraft from all three 4th FG squadrons:
Whether this particular Mustang ever carried the name 'Ridge Runner' and any nose art, I dunno for sure, but I doubt it. If my information is correct, 'Mac' was assigned this particular ship less than a month before he was shot down in it. I suppose a month is enough time to paint a bit of nose art on a plane but that kinda stuff didn't take priority.
As a matter of interest, as far as I now know, the aircraft 'Mac' flew before this one was a P-51B named 'Yippee Joe'. Here's a page that I recently rediscovered which has some info on McKennon:
Pierce McKennon - The "Ridge Runner"
Be aware that the profile on that page showing this particular ship (44-13883) is incorrect in that it shows the aircraft as having a dorsal fin. This ship was an early P-51D without the fin; my point being: if that's incorrect, there may be other incorrect info on that page as well.
If the second P-51D that 'Mac' flew (and what I believe to be the first P-51D to carry the name 'Ridge Runner') carried invasion stripes, it most likely only had them on the undersurfaces, similar to what you see above,
or it may have only carried them on the undersurface of the fuselage.
