                        Got the stingers, thanks again, Trigger, and I must have lost my mind because I started cutting the rudders to pose them and the elevons (is that the right term?) too. Planning on doing the same with the wing ailerons. What have I gotten myself into?

                        Man....This kit is daunting.
                        I've gotten the interior of the forward fuselage painted a nice shade of NVG-compatible flat black. Neither of the main panels comes with any detail, so I'm gonna have to add it all. Shouldn't be too difficult.

                        Well, I got the fuselage halves together, so I'm making progress. This kit has some issues (Hobbycraft). It has both raised and engraved lines, it almost looks like two molds were grafted together to make this kit. The engraving ends just in front on the wing root. Fit is an issue, too. Nothing terrible (yet), just a little more sanding, which means I'm going to have to try and re-scribe the lost detail. No biggie, good practice and all that. I just didn't feel like shelling out the $30+ US for the Tamiya A-10.

                        Complaining over. I'm still psyched to get this bad boy assembled and painted. It's actually been pretty enjoyable, making my own details for the pit and thinking up the other changes I'll be making.

                        Oh, I found some possiblities for nose art, too. Shame I can't post most of them here. HA HA.

                        I think my nose art will be a little more racy than Porky, but I'm glad you like the Whiskey Hog designation, Trigger.

                        Cobrahistorian, you had to give me another idea to debate in my mind! But I think if I put the stinger pods on one outboard pylon and hang a jammer on the other side, that'll give me what I want, some self defense, not to mix it up with the "air superiority" boys. In a CAS role I guess she'll just have to rely on the CAP of USMC F-18s for top cover.

                        Lets back up a second. With 11 hardpoints capable of carrying 4 Hellfires, an A-10 could theoretically carry 44 missiles? There are how many tanks in a battalion?

                        Thanks for the cockpit photo. Guess mine is more "what if" than the C version, so maybe I'll make mine the M variant or something. Oh, well, that's fine with me.

                        Think there'd be a problem if I hung AMRAAMs on the outer pylons instead of SIdewinders? I've got a few spare AMRAAMs in the parts box gathering dust.

                        Honestly, I think it probably could carry it all. 4 Hellfires and the launcher weigh less than a 500lb bomb. ALL of the A-10s hardpoints can carry a 500lb bomb.

                        Plus, now that Trigger and I have solved the FLIR and Laser designator issues, this is gonna be REALLY cool!

                        I just sanded and de-flashed the forward fuselage halves. Gonna have to start on the cockpit soon. By the way, here's a shot of the new A-10C cockpit.

                        Now here's a question. Hellfires AND Mavericks?
                        I'm thinking rocket pods outboard and missiles inboard. There are 11 pylons.
                        From outboard to inboard:

                        M260 7-shot rocket pod
                        Quad Hellfire rack
                        Triple Maverick rack
                        M261 19 shot pod
                        centerline free and mirrored on the other side.

                        Doesn't need Sidewinders cuz the Hellfire's got some Air to Air capability. Doesn't really need a jammer pod. I'm wondering if it could actually carry all of that ordnance.... Too cool!

                        What have I done?!
                        I just got my Trumpeter A-10 N/AW from the mailman. I'm a tad overwhelmed right now. WOW!.... I'll say it again... WOW! It is friggin HUGE! Yes, the detail around the office is a bit soft, but SO WHAT?! Now i need to figure out exactly how many Hellfires I can hang on this thing! oooh, and rockets... its gotta have rockets!

                        The A-10 currently flies with the ACES II seat (standard USAF seat). For a short while waaaaay back in the prototype and early production stage, it used the ESCAPAC seat. But since this is a "what if", fell free to drop in any kind of seat you want!

                        1/72 ACES II
                        - Aires makes a resin 2-pack w/photoetched parts (ae7051, approx $8 - $11)
                        - Verlinden also has a resin 2-pack with photoetched detail parts (vp0226, $7 - $8)

                        So, the Hobbycraft box mentions the "detailed cockpit" of this kit. Well, here's the detailed instrument panel:

                        Fancy, huh?

                        So, here's what I did, using some bits from a Eduard PE fret for a Mosquito I had laying around unused, some scraps of styrene sheet and aluminum. Unpainted:


                        Then, I added the MFD screens cut from film negative and then I painted it with Tamiya green black and attempted to drybrush with some olive drab to pick out details. Finished:


                        Now I just need to add a little future for the glass in the gauges.

                        Well, Atlanta trip got scratched at the last minute. Oh well, I can always order online if need be. Didn't need the weapons yet anyway.

                        Since mine will be an RAF aircraft, it'll have to use the probe method of A/A refueling. I can't fine any old ones in my spares (remember the old Monogram Harriers? Either the AV-8A's or B's would work) and my scratchbuilding skills aren't there yet. Does anyone know of any aftermarket refueling probes?
