I may be too late. I've just signed up here, and I happen to have a 1/48 Spitfire 1 and a 1/72 109E on the go. Can I join this group build (my first one), or am I too late ?
Thanks
Tony (taxtp)

I'm just taking it one GB at a time.

Jules - MM does have some nice paints, and a great selection too! I use both those and the MM acrylics and love them both!!! Both seem rather consistent in the way the go on and the finish achieved...

Tweets How could i forget "Cordial Night" Y'know i've never seen a woman drink so much beer beforeThumbs Up [tup]
I certainly remember those security guards and the Milk Truck incident, Hmmm that was another one of Toms hairbrained ideas......

Progress:::::::: I forgot to mention that my first foray into enamel paints worked just fine, the MM enamel RLM 65 flowed through the A/B very nicely, now onto the upper colours.......

Tom, do you have the full version or just the sample? How is it? ie. quality, ease of use?

Full version of what? sorry just got off work and put my mind in park...

oh yeah that was supposed to be 1/32 Wildcat up there... dyslexic fingers were typing one thing while thinking another...

Update: The Spitfire has been stripped of paint. The paintstripper has also discoloured the filler too, for some reason. Now to paint the underside again! 3rd time lucky?

Tweety, not good, gots me thirtsy at 9:30 in the morning here in the great white north (though it really isn't white right now). Gotta love that shot, I wish I could do that!
About the decal problem, 1st round of re-application worked a bit. I sliced the decal a bit around the wrinkle and it helped but I'll need to re-apply again. I also tried the custom decal again and this time it went on okay, but the edge wrinkled up and wasn't very straight, I guess I'll have to cut it better next time. This is so painful. I am almost finished but the decaling is taking forever!

Darren - great to hear about Charlie... is there anything he needs? I'd like to send him something to cheer him up... Maybe a nice "Odor-eater" mattress? Some athlete's foot spray to freshen his room?

Karl - agreed that was a bad one... along with that movie Angelina Jolie tried her hand at a British aristocrat accent... that one was like fingernails on a chalkboard... Was it "Tomb Raider"? I dont remember, I'm not really a big fan of her...

I think that accent is up there with Dick Van Dyke's Cockney accent in Mary Poppins..........

JB I use Micro Sol & Micro Set exclusively and have never had a problem using either kit decals or custom decals. For the record though, Micro Sol is a wetting agent that should be brushed on to surface before applying decals. It helps reduce bubbles, softens decals so they can wrap and prevents edges from curling. Micro Set is a decal softener that goes on top of the decal after about 10 minute’s to further soften the decal for difficult surfaces. This can eliminate bubbles and other wrinkles. Warning, under no circumstances should you move or touch the decal after applying Micro Set until it is completely dry.
Back to your problem though, I have never heard of either Micro Sol or Set eating away Future and I put it on by the bucket load for some decals.

Tom & Jules, thank you for your concern gents but Charlie is resting comfortably and undergoing intense physical and psychological rehab. What's that Charlie, no it's OK I won't let her near you again you just rest up now.

Cheers
Darren

Jay - My decals do that from time to time with the micro-set (I always use the set, and if they dont go down THEN go to the Micro-sol) but in an hour or so they are flat to the finish, if not... like I mentioned I hit them again with either micro-sol or micro-set depending on how much they didnt settle. One thing about Micro-sol--- you CANT try to move or touch a decal until it has completely dried or it will really tear it up. (Learned in the school of modeling hard knocks Wink [;)]) and as far as the future like Rick said, it just discolors it and dulls it a bit.. it should still be ok... if the decal is still in the same shape try hitting it with more Micro-sol and see what happens..

Karl, Sounds like a plan. Looking forward to some pics.

Jay, Microsol is alcohol based & can react with Future. Usually just a mild discoloring which goes away with another coat of Furure. I've never had it eat through the Future.

help!!!!

Houston, we have a problem! (not really aiming this your way Mr. Texan but you can answer). The kit decals went on but being still new to the game I think used too much 'micro sol' and the decals didn't completely settle back down. There are crinkles left on them. Is there anything I can do or am I hoopered and need to get new decals. Sad [:(]

Also I think 'micro sol' is too strong for the custom decals as when I put it on one of the letter codes, it started shrivelling right away and it went really sticky, I couldn't move the decal after about 10 seconds! and it must have reacted with something becasue a little patch of the future was eaten away! Has anyone used micro sol and found this happening?Angry [:(!]

almost there,... just...have... to... finish it!

Tanky Where is that accent supposed to be from..............

.......and don't say Mike Myers!

Progress Update

The Hurri now has a full complement of decals on every area apart from the starboard side of the rudder which is missing the Sqabbling Bleeders pennant.

So I'm making a new one up with a coat of RLM 78 for the background blue, with some decal strips for the red and blue stripes. Should be done by end of the week.

The rest of the airframe has received a second coat of Future, followed by a sludge wash over all the panel lines. The air scoop under the Hurri has been attached, as have all the flight surfaces. All it needs now is a coat of matt varnish, followed by some weathering.

Oh, and to paint the canopy, which is already masked, and which I keep forgetting!

In short the end is in sight.

I'll post some pics soon, didn't get a chance at the weekend.

QUOTE: Dull paints drink that stuff right up! Almost as fast as Tweety can!

QUOTE: you're not saying the future went bad has it Darren? I can send some more if it did... BTW: you guys keep me posted when ya need more... an individual bottle is only about $10 US to send... all 3 or 4 bottles were a bit more... so if I get your orders as they come in I can fill them individually! (at less of a bang to the pocket book!) Tweets is on a Future ration now... he drank the first 3 bottles I sent him.. now he only gets one every 14 days or so! He has to ration it...

QUOTE: That Tweety guy has a serious problem, I mean who drinks Future??? Now taking the top off the bottle and selling it is a much more sensible thing to do .

Whats all this talk of the Gb fading away and such, i'm only just getting to the buisness end of my build, Y'know there is still a month to go before the official end dateThumbs Up [tup]

Progress:::::: The Emil is all together and i gave it a preshade last night, i forgot that i had to buy the RLM 70 , 71 and 65 in the MM enamel range cause the LHS was out of Gunze and i went and sprayed RLM 66 Gunze acrylic as the preshade, not knowing how the differnt paints may react to each other i decided to give it a barrier coat of Future....better safe than sorry....................Pics Soon.............
