Tony,

Laugh [(-D]Laugh [(-D]Laugh [(-D], every time I walk into that shop I always find myself walking out with something that I really never intended to buy, but that looked really cool oh and don't sweat on the end date for this build, it's not that important.
As for the JU-87B IMHO the best kit out there is the Revell AG JU-87B-2. It's a re-release of the Hasegawa kit so has all the Hase quality at a Revell price. I think from memory it comes in a desert version only, so you'll probably need to look for some AM decals.

Cheers

Progress Report:
I've laid down the Dk Earth on the Spitfire 1a, and should be able to do the under surfaces shortly. Note really worth another photo yet.
The 1/48 109E now has the office closed. I think I will be able to prime it tonight, all things being equal. Given that I like to allow 48hours between colours, and I've got at least 4 to do, I need to keep this thing moving if I'm to make the deadline.
Darren - I went to see Chris yesterday, and managed to not buy a kit !!! He did force me to order two of those Hunters though. I wonder how long before Rewvell or someone else gives us the option of other marks, I don't really want to marry a Matchbox T Mk7 nose to the Revell fuselage.
On the BoB front, and I'm definitely not committing to doing this by end May, what is the best option for a Ju 87B in 1/48 ? Is it still the Airfix kit, or has someone bettered it ?
Cheers

Jay did the future turn white (hazy) or did it get rough on you? If it just turned hazy that is normal sometimes.. thats just the future reacting to the solvent... if it actually got dull there as in eaten off.. I would not use that particular setting agent with Future...

the rest is ditto on what Rick said

I only use the Micro Scale system myself. Micro Set on the model surface, slide the decal into position, let it set for a 1/2 hour or so. Inspect & if it needs help apply Micro Sol sparingly & only on the decal surface. Avoid getting it on the paint as much as possible. If it doesn't need help, leave it alone.

Thank you Rick. I will wait with eager anticipation! This time I will try not to screw up the decals! What do you suggest I now have Super sol, Super set, Mr Mark Softer and Solvaset! One has got to work! I was going to try the Mr. Mark Softer.
I also have to put another layer of future on the port fuselage as I tried to put the custom decal on and both the Super Sol and Mr. Mark Softer reacted and took off some of the future, weird. three tries and each time the decal went funny and didn't cooperate. Maybe fourth time will be lucky (after a second layer of decal sealer?).

Jay, I mailed you some decals on Saturday. Don't know how long it takes to get there from here, but you should recieve them in a few days at most.

Hey guys, looks like good progress you all are making, and yes I will get done my Hurricane by May 31! I got the canopies done this weekend, not much time for anything else. I forgot how much fun masking and painting them really was...Sigh [sigh]
Sorry, not progress pics, my batterieris conked out and didn't have time to get new ones.
Darren, I periodically look at the first page and wonder what happened to some people/builds too! I guess no BP Defiant this time around?

Tony Just click on the GB your most interested in and on page 1 you should see the start and finish dates as well as the guidelines for the buildThumbs Up [tup]
BTW the dates arn't really set in concrete, every GB that i've been in has run for at least a month after the finish date......

Jules, good luck on the canopy masking, are you using Tweety's Bare metal foil method?

Tony topic, ha we don't need no stinkin topic.
I'm not much of a 72nd scale builder but I'm definitely going to be getting that Revell Hunter, from Chris at Toys & Hobbies, from what I've read it's a really nice kit. Speaking of Chris, when I was last in the store he was busy showing off his awesome Concorde and his Lightning with the hand painted markings. I usually end up there on a Saturday mornings for a chat.

Is there a listing of all the currently active GBs, and when they expire ? It might help me in the decision making process.

Hi Darren,
I've been around the traps of the Melbourne modelling scene for a while. I know Chris at Toys & Hobbies pretty well, from his old Hearns days. I often go their to talk about Lightnings, Hunters, Jaguars and all that great British post war stuff. In fact, it's lunch time now and I might mosey on down there.
I recently built a 1/72 Lightning F6, mainly because Chris' enthusiasm rubbed off. It will be good when the new Revell Hunters show up.
oops sorry, OT,
Cheers

Hmmmm Sounds like a cool plan Tom I'm still working on the Emil but i should be finished before the end date.............
BTW we should all thank Madam De Kremp for the huge number of posts, without her we would probably only made about 1500 postsThumbs Up [tup]

To be honest I think it could Jules.. what with me pondering starting that Bf110 in 1/48 to put with Osher's... there's still a few late comers drifting in as well... we might as well make this a perennial GB... no start or stop date... one years build flows right into the other! Laugh [(-D]

Mike don't sweat it. I think every modeler goes through patches like that. I have just come off a frenzy period where I was working on five kits at once [:0]. I have now calmed down a tad and I'm in a quiet patch and I'm just pottering away with two builds.

Osher you are most welcome, moderating this build has been great fun.

Cheers

Rick - where were you when I hit my slump last summer??? I could have used that advice then... Wink [;)]

I've learned to put it all aside when I start feeling it's a chore... even clean up my model desk and put the kit in the closet... usually in a few days to a week or two my mind starts drifiting back to the kit.. and eventually I get it out and hit a 3 or 4 day spurt of heavy modeling then back to normal... (Thats how the first MArtlet got finished in 2 weeks)

Mike, you'll shake it off in a day or two. Just don't force it or you'll probably screw up.

Ah, it happens to us all. I took a 2 month break from modeling earlier this year. It sort of comes and goes. Don't worry about it, and I'm sure the desire will return! Just don't think you have to model, else you might do it, but not with joy, which, after all, is the purpose of modeling.

Hang on a minute, I thought this build was 'fading away', what's with all the posts? I turn my back for five minutes and there's another page of posts to read Big Smile [:D]

Well it's arrived finally, on Friday I received in the mail my copy of Warbird Modeling - The Battle of Britain from FSM and it's really good. The only infitesimally small problem is that I ordered this mag in November last year thinking it would be a great reference for people during the build Grumpy [|(]. Oh well there's always the next BoB GB.

Tony, try using a piece of sea sponge which you should be able to pick up at the art store opposite the pet shop at Eastland. Either that or try a piece of kitchen scouring pad.
Also do you know the guys at Models & Hobbies 4 U in Nunawading, because your name is sure ringing a bell with be from somewhere.

Osher 10,000 apologies Big Smile [:D] for not having updated page one. You are now up to date along with Tony.

Cheers

Thanks Tony! I'll do that! Very kind of you. I'll drop an email tomorrow (need to find the instructions, and thence the part numbers).

Darn! I couldn't understand the problems I was having with the fuselage of the bf-110, but I've just realised that the two halves are warped. I've sort of got them to fit, but more than a little CA overflow (the joined opened, but trying to get CA in the crack was very difficult. Just don't look head on, else it's apparent it's a bent bird, with the rear wings quite out of true. Oh well, at least progress continues, as such. Just need to fill/sand it, put the canopy on, then paint.

Hi Osher,
Email me offline at t_mollica@hotmail.com with your address and the part numbers you need and if I've got them, I'll send them immediately b airmail.
Thanks for the info on the 110, I've got an old Superscale sheet, but it doesn't show the version of the various aircraft, so I'll have to scout for photos when I do it.
Cheers

Jay Glad you like it. Hope you get your decals sorted.

Tony I think I built that matchbos kit many years back!

Osher Nice progress on the 110.

Not a lot of prgress today, but the canopy is fully masked ready for paint tomorrow and the exhausts are now on.

Osher, the 1/72 Me-410 is based on the Fine Molds tooling. I haven't built it, but reviewers pointed out that the fuselage cut outs for right & left hand tailplanes were at different heights, making for a step when viewed from head on or rear on. Correctable, but not an easy fix. Italeri also has a 1/72 Me-410 which looks good in the box, but I haven't built it.

Osher - true... so true.. I started out wanting to do a Fairey Fulmar but after recieving a plastic bag with 1 sprue and non-fitting wings I decided against it... it wold have been nice to build a Fulmar but...

On a different note...it's interesting to look at the first page, and the build list, now we just have 1 month to go. OK, some have dropped out, and some have changed (mine needs to be changed from a bf-109 to a Spitfire). Still, I'd say around half have already been built and displayed, and even now with just a month to go, new builds are occuring.

Interesting too the choices, and I wonder, to what degree the choices we made were dictated by choice/availablity/easy of build/price of kits. For example, I was going to do a M.26 Miles Master Fighter, and even bought the kit, but the challange of conversion from Master to Master Fighter was beyond my capabilities at the time.

So, assuming there was a great kit and whatever, I wonder what aircraft would have been built?

OK, just musing on a Saturday morning!
