It's used to save your topic from slipping onto the 2nd page, and being lost forever.
Whenever a new post is added, the topic moves to first place on the listing.

When you have nothing to actually say, 'BUMP' is the way to go.

Any one built the old Monogram Spitfire mk1?

Chasing info on any build pitfalls etc. I know it an old kit and I have the Tamiya Spit in my stash but I enjoy building older kits, challenges galore!!

cheers

Mike i built the Kit years ago as a kid but at that age i didn't really care about the pitfalls,
I think it took me about a day to glue it together and brush paint it, my how times have changedThumbs Up [tup]
I watched the BoB movie again last night while i was waiting for the caffeine to leave me........
As much as i like the movie i would like to see it redone with modern technology......
I'd also like them to make.........
The KoKoda Trail
The battle of Long Tan
Another Gallipoli
Another Sink the Bismark
The story of U-47 and U-99
Another Zulu
And going back further into history a Roman epic based on Hannibal and the 2nd Punic war..........the list just goes on so i'll stop nowThumbs Up [tup]

nmayhew has to have RSI with that many Laugh [(-D]'s

Jules, they might digitise epics like Zulu and Gallipoli, but it will have to wait for the flury of tacky Gulf War movies when this one's over.

Like it's not bad enough there is a war on, then you have to endure decades of actors overcoming all odds and saving the day.

I still have Zulu on VHS, cruddy pic and audio, but at least I have it!!

I would like to see another Bismarck epic made with the SFX they can do now.

Tweety, I have Zulu on DVD now. Not too bad at all quality wise!

cheers

I just got the original 'Sink the Bismark!' on DVD over the weekend. I had never seen it before. I thought the model work for the effects was pretty good. I especially liked the secenes with the Fairy Swordfish making there attack runs, the models were indivually maneuvered as opposed to the models mounted to the same base and seeing them move in unrealistic unison.

As a Yank, I'm still waiting for a better 'Midway'to be made.

U-571 what a dissapointment, all that great SFX wasted in a crappy unrealistic story......
Das Boot is still my favouriteThumbs Up [tup]

Gallipoli i would like to see completely redone, instead of focusing on the 2 main actors i think it should focus on the campaign to capture the Dardenelles, and it should start with the attack by RN Battleships as they tried to force a passage through the straits....And then move on to the land campaign........

Midway.... I agree! a remake!

Gallipoli... although it tried to bring the war into it, it was a little to 'one personish' for me... focused on a too tight of spectrum... that war was far too reaching and contreversial to be done like that.... at least focus on more of the drain and conflicting feelings on being there on a person, than the action of one person...

Das Boot... what it lacks in flair and special effects it makes up for with pure drama and tension as well as a human side to it.. one of the better war movies I have seen...

Sadly now moviemakers sell to the young crowd now... all flash, no substance.. anything to further the development of ADD in the young ones.... oh yeah... sex.. I almost forgot that... they could take something like Suvla Bay and turn it into a love story somehow with one knife wielding hero wiping out the Turks in 15 min... and then his leading lady running across the barren wilderness to fall into his arms <insert obligatory nude scene here> ... and people will rave what a wonderful film it was...

They need to do a "We were soldiers once" style movie on Gallipoli or the whole campaign... Sadly its never been covered adequately... have a main focus figure but include the width and breadth of the battle itself into it...

One of my favourites is Kelly's Heroes, the mockup of the Tiger was pretty well done, based on the T-34. Though the turrent was too far forward.

Tora Tora Tora still proverbials over Pearl Harbour btw

cheers

Another, though earlier era epic I would like to see and see done Historically accurate would be Waterloo and a movie about Trafalgar...

Band of Brothers was good, I saw 2 eps and enjoyed it, even my wife found it interesting and watchable! I have the DVD set to watch one day Smile [:)]

Tora Tora Tora!!!

Watched that many years ago, and liked it alot.
Gallipoli, while it is a little to 'focused', still is an epic movie, and still stirs feelings amongst alot of people, mainly how it portrays Australian mateship, and how the Brits royally stuffed things up AGAIN!!

Band of Brothers I couldn't really get into, but I did like it.

Das Boot is another fav, tacky and low /no budget, but a stayer all the same.

And Mike is spot on with Pearl Harbour!!
How can someone take something that was a tragic event, and portray it as a love story???
Just as pathetic as Titanic!!!
Thinking of the 2 of them makes bile rise from my tummyYuck [yuck]

What do you guys think of the series M*A*S*H???

I had the chance to see the Premiere of Pearl Harbour in Waikiki, Hawaii when I was there in 2001. But after standing over the sunken remains of the Arizona, I though it would be "the wrong thing to do" to see such a crass representation of the "day of infamy" For Gods sake, they protrayed the US Admiral commanding Pearl Harbour Naval Base as a hero!!

The real Admiral was sent home in disgrace!

Battle of the River Plate is another good movie, and how about a movie about Jutland?

cheers

Mike

Funny enough, even though the respresentation of the Korean War just isn't there... I love MASH because being a combat medic myself, it was pretty close to how the day to day routine went when ?I was deployed... constant joking, very "off the wall" sense of humor. And believe it or not each of the characters in MASH had a real life counterpart everywhere I went...

I think they tried to attract too large an Audience when it came to Pearl Harbour......
The Boys want to watch the Battle while the girls dig the Romance......
Now if they had made it like Tora Tora Tora it would have been a winner.....

Jutland made with today's SFX would be great, an all big gun BattleThumbs Up [tup]

Tweets more PE eh, i'm making my Emil OOB but the Stuka is gonna be full of Metal....

The only PE I am putting in the Spitfire will be harnesses!

I am going to try and keep this build as OOB as possible, though that may change when I crack open the box and re-familiarise myself with the decals once more.

cheers

hey Izzy, yeah it would be swell if ya could post some pics... preferably a few as the model is being assembled. It's always neat to see how someone else approaches things like instrument panels and seatbelts. Helps us all learn new ways of doing things! Then a shot or two of the finished product would be nice too...

great, the Ju88 hasn't been taken up yet I dont believe... a great AC... I think the variants through C-5 or C-6 would be ok... maybe C-5 now that I think about it. Not sure who makes them out there but I will do a search and see what I can find for ya...

great to have ya along!

hey Joe! good to see ya here! I believe the close date is May 31,2005... plenty of time to get ready! If you go to the first post here Darren lists all the particulars as well as lists the aircraft available that were involved in the BoB.

I thought about doing the Emil OOB, but after closer inspection, decided it wouldn't look right with the factory fare attached to it.

The Tamiya kit is pretty good, and I will pay less attention to the c/p as I did with my G14, seeing as you can't see much of the effort I put inSad [:(]

But as for flaps etc, on my models I feel I cant do the factory stuff to look right, but it looks good on othersConfused [%-)]
Same with preshading, I cant do that to save my life, but post shading is easy as.

Hi all, I'm back from a week down at the beach with the family so I thought I would drop in to see how things are going.

cossack - What are you using for an air brush with your Spitty, is it a single or double action brush?

mapguy - Welcome to the build, I look forward to seeing your work because the Lysander has always been a particular favorite of mine.

fightjoe - There is no cut off date for entries to the build, only a completion date of May 31st. You are more than welcome to join in any time

izzy8990 - Welcome to our little band and don't worry about your skill level. This is not a contest, it's just a group of guys building for fun and swapping some bs along the way.
You didn't say what scale you were doing but greatmodels has the 1/72 Revell AG (rmg4130) Junkers Ju.88A-4 in stock for $10.85 and in 1/48 they have the DML/Dragon 1/48 (dr5536) Junkers Ju.88C-6 Zerstorer for $23.20. The DML kit is listed as C-6 but contains all the parts for the A-4. You can find them at www.greatmodels.com

Darren,

I'm jumping in at the deep end - a double action Paasche VL that was bought for me for my birthday. I am expecting to take it REAL gentle, and have no expectations as to how it will turn out :)

Izzy, Revell DE also makes a 1/48 Ju88 A-4/D-1 for about 12.00 you can get it from squadron, but being Revell it's probably available eslewhere too... I believe the Monogram probuilder offers a C-6 but with parts to backward mod it. (propellers, clear nose pieces etc...)

Paul from what I've heard the Paasche VL is a fine air brush that will serve you well. I have an Iwata myself and I love using it.

You're sort of lucky that you picked the Spitfire as your first ab model because the camo scheme is quite simple. Just remember one thing, Spitfire camo was painted on using rubber mats laid over the aircraft as templates, so you will need a hard edge on your paint job.

Cheers
