So far I've been lucky. None of my three ever go near my stuff, despite the fact I leave it out lots on my bench. After all I don't need help in screwing things up, I can do that myself.

So far this week, I've dropped my Do217 on the floor, and split the fuselage seem open, thankfully I haven't reached the painting stage yet!

Then last night I dropped a dio base on my part complete PZL 24G and snapped off the tail skid an tail aerial mount.

Like I said, I don't need kids to hash things up Banged Head [banghead]

Karl

Currently on the bench: AZ Models 1/72 Mig 17PF

Well my desk is the hide-a-way one that i built from the plans that i got from this site( but i modified them of course). i had the 110 on the desk drying as the canopy was glued in the open position. Oh well
My search still goes on for a kit. i picked up a 109D the other day. I've found a Hurricane Mk II night fighter and Dessert Rat version, also a Gladiator ( but the box says late version???) Still looking for a 109E in 1/48. i need to move to a bigger city or somthing.

Hey Cruzr, The late version Gladiator would certainly qualify if you're interested. Also, (I am sorry but I think I have asked this before) have you thought of using a mail order place like Greatmodels or Squadron?

My workbench is locked away in Dad's model room (which is our spare room); I keep the door closed so the kids don't go in. My oldest knows never to go near dad's modeling stuff regardless because it is dangerous.

As a by the by, I was working on my 109 E and my Mustang III last night and had an absolute ball. Four hours just flew by and I walked out of the model room and thought, wow that was a good session. Sometimes modeling can become a bit of a chore and it's nice to remember it is actually fun.

Cheers

Ahhhh, half your luck Darren.

The workbench pic, with the G14 with 2 decals on it, thats as far as I've been allowed to get this weekend!
Work, kid, sport blah blah blah.............

Might be able to get some more in this arvo, before training.

Well, thats the plan.

Cruzr: just a word of warning about internet orders from the States. I ordered something from Great Models and had them ship it through UPS because the shipping was cheaper. Turns out I got hit with $30 customs brokerage fee!! Angry [:(!]Angry [:(!]Angry [:(!]

I don't know if shipping it through the mail would get around that problem and I'm not sure why it had to go through a customs broker. Maybe some other Canadians out there can answer that question. I'm going to give the Canadian internet sites a try, or order stuff through the LHS (don't know if this is an option for you) before I ever try ordering from the States again. Nothing against Americans you understand, its our own Government trying to grab some cash every chance they get. Angry [:(!]Angry [:(!]Angry [:(!]

Well, I had a turn of luck, if you could call it thatConfused [%-)]

Got the call from day care that my little boy had a temperature, so took the rest of today off of work.

He's ok, but can't be too careful.
So while he plays, I am doing some modelling, and when he goes down for a nap, I'll do some spray painting.

I'ts kinda cool really, he doesn't want me to play with him, but he likes being in the same room as me, and doing his own thing.

tweety1 - i hope the little one is better soon!Black Eye [B)]
darson - thanks for the heads up about the m4a1; i've read reviews etc, and although yu can do a 43 model ( i think), to make it into an el alamein tank, you need direct vision ports and the suspension from say tamiya's old m3 lee kit...but that's for another group build!!Wink [;)]
[#offtopic
back to matters here, i'm still waiting on my defiant to arrive, but have heaps of BoB craft to do in the mean time, just as a "warm-up" (they always teach you how important warm-ups are in excercise now, don't they??Laugh [(-D]Laugh [(-D]Laugh [(-D])
i think i am going to do hassegawa's 109 e-4 Galland, with the telescopic site hat he had specially fittedCool [8D], in tandem with my defiant.
i also have a he-111 (waiting for exhausts from bill koster to make it authentic BoB), and a tamiya 109 e-3 which i will do in JG51 Pips Priller markings....there are soooo many cool schemes out there i need to build about 50 aircraft!![:0]Smile [:)]

basically, i can't wait until the build starts!

fighterguru I know how you feel, at this time of year between work and the run up to the silly season, I am knackered. Sometimes I have to almost force myself to go to the workbench. That’s why it so much fun the other night, I was actually feeling ok for once and had a spare evening to myself.

tweety My youngest daughter (2 years old) has just come down with chicken pox again Sad [:(]. I can't believe it, twice in 12 months. I hope your little boy is feeling better soon.

nmayhew There's not long to go now, but the closer the start date gets the slower time seems to pass.
I don't understand what you mean by "109 e-4 Galland, with the telescopic site hat he had specially fitted". Where did he put the telescopic sight?

Oh yeah, only 2 weeks to go and I am outa here. I'm taking the family down the coast to the beach for a week of sunshine, blue skies lapping waves Big Smile [:D]Big Smile [:D]Big Smile [:D]

Darren, Galland had it poking out of the windshield, i read that he used it for identifying
A/C at longer ranges, not to improve his aim.........Jules......

YOU BETCHA!!!!!

Even if Me109's are done to death currently!!!!

A mate in the UK sent me a DVD with a movie showing the Rotodyne flights...WOW!!!

Those wonders were viable VSTOL aircraft 50 years before the trouble plagued Osprey and those are not even in service yet!

cheers

Mike, I have to admit, the Rotodyne is one VERY peculiar looking craft.
Exactly what does it slot into???

It's not a plane, it's not a helo, it's...................weird.

It is a convertiplane.

The twin turboprops are feathered on take off/landing and provide a flow of hot air to assist the rotation of the tip jet rotors. Once the Rotodyne has risen to an approriate altitude for horizontal flight, the rotors and tip jets are stopped and the turbo props are then powered up. Landing is just the opposite.

Remember that flight testing of the Rotodyne took place in the mid '50's and by 1959 before Sandys caused the massive shakeup in the aviation industry in the UK, Fairey was on the verge of massive contracts to sell the Rotodyne for military and civilian use. Westland briefly took the project over and created a military and civilian version but the whole thing just petered away and eventually they SCRAPPED the working prototype.

Below is a pic of the Airfix 1:72 Fairey Rotodyne in Farborough '58 airshow colours

My sig has my "what-if" QANTAS Rotodyne.

I love them!! Next is a RAAF military transport with wingtip tanks, 5 bladed props and a camo scheme!

cheers

Wow! It's been while, hasn't it! Other stuff is getting done, so I thought I'd pop back in here real quick just to clarify something.

As you know (or maybe you don't) I'd like to finish Academy's 1/72 Hawker Hurricane for this GB. Unfortunatly I don't know if this varient actually participated in the conflict. So, my question is- did the the Hawker Hurrican Mk. IIC participate in this conflict?

[image]http://www.academy-europe.de/boxart/2129boxg.jpg[/image]

I know the eight gun version served extensively, but I have no idea if the four gun cannon fighter arrived soon enough to take part in it. (I hope so. I'd really like to participate in this GB, and funds aren't enough for me to buy a new kit just so I can.)

No, the only Hurricane marque to fight in the BoB was the Hurricane Mk1, with 8 x .303 Browning MG's. The MkII Hurricane did not appear until early 1941 IIRC.

Sign - Dots [#dots]

Sigh [sigh] Ah, well. I had a suspision that it wouldn't work. I hate it when I'm right.

Well, I guess that means I'm out. Have fun, 'yall. Hope to see your work real soon. And who knows, maybe I'll pick up a Bf 109 between here and there.

See 'ya! Big Smile [:D]Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Wait-

Maybe...

How hard would a converson be? Would it only involve the guns? If so, that I think I could do. (The markings would be way off, but I'm not ever fussy on those details. Aftermarked decals aren't out of the question, either.)

Hmmm....

We shall see......................

Mike,

I certainly hope you decide to stick around for the build either with your Hurricane (backdated) or a 109 or maybe something else.

Your mega plane that is in your sig is really starting to take shape. It looks as though you will need to put an extension on your house to have somewhere to put it.

Mike

Check out these links, I reckon you could get away with a Hurricane IIA as these served in the BoB!

http://www.battleofbritain.net/0010.html
http://www3.mistral.co.uk/k5083/TECHDATA.HTM
http://www.chuckhawks.com/hawker_hurricane.htm
http://www.faqs.org/docs/air/avhurr.html

The last two are of note showing some pics of a MkII and the last link provides a great description of the development history of the Hurricane.

Hope that helps

cheers
