Thanks for the H/C info guys, I'll stash that in the back of my mind for later use.

Like I said Jules, any pics would be sensational, may be able to pick up an odd detail or something. You never know.
One things for certain, I couldn't have been the gunner in a Defiant.
No way I would trust someone else to dodge bullets coming from my six!!!

Stop by and check our progress Jeeves, dont be a strangerBig Smile [:D]

Nicholas, J.S Harrison has said that he is thinking of putting up a North African GB mid way through next year. I think he is going to have quite a few starters on that one (me for instance).

As far as Emils goes i'll be building the Tamiya E 4/7 trop as an E3, this kit also gives you the markings for Black 8 JG 27 in North African markings, which IMHO is a must have, the only thing thats stopping me are those green spots"THEY WORRY ME"

Laugh [(-D]Laugh [(-D]Laugh [(-D] OMG, I am the same. I have that kit waiting to build but the green spots scare the c**p out of me. What I need is a North African GB (hint hint) so that I can bite the bullet.

tweety I found this for ya... it's not much but exterior shots, but there's a link there to a guy who review his build of the kit which might give you some tips...

I might build a RAF P-40 to partner my Hobbycraft 1:48 Hurricane IIC

Then again, perhaps a trop Bf109E-4 would be nice as well!

cheers

If you're looking at a tropical 109 E, the Revell kit in 1/48 is worth a look.

It is actually a rebox of the Hasegawa kit, so comes with separate slats & flaps.

Oh, and it is way cheaper than the Hasegawa kit, in the UK at least!

Nice Hurricane Mike Thumbs Up [tup]

What sort of weathering did you do on it, it certainly looks effective?

Also, if you are talking about the 1/48 Trumpeter P-40 I checked it out at the LHS the other day and it doesn't look too bad. The one thing that I did notice was that the instrument panel was clear (like Accurate Miniatures). The only thing was that it had no detail at all on the instrument faces and there is no decal to stick on the back.

thats wierd... I had another kit a little while back that was alike that... I forgot which... but I was extremely puzzled by the lack of ANYTHING...

---edit---

I am sure you've een or done this, but what was suggested to me was to paint the panel white enamel, then go over it in flat black acrylic... after cured, with a very fine pin or needle make your needles etc.. mine actually came out resembling an instrument panel somewhat....

Darren

Aeromaster paints throughout. I preshaded (a rarity for me) and then applied the main colours. While they were still a tad wet, I sprayed lightened shades inside panels to represent fading. I also applied middlestone along panels lines inside the dark earth areas to represent more fading. After a Future coat, decals and a seal coat of Future, I used a raw sienna/burnt umber oil wash, to dirty up the ressessed panel lines.

Once I sprayed a flat coat, humbrol Steel and flat alumimium were used to add the paint chips. Pastels did the rest of the weathering.

I tried a whole heap of different techniques which seemed to come together really well in the end! Here are some more pics.

Hmmm, I have the Arii and Monogram 1:48 P-40E's. The Arii one comes with RAF mid east markings but I have the most excellent Aeromaster RAF Sharkmouth Sqn sheet which covers heaps of P-40's based in the Middle East . I have heard some good reports about the Trumpeter kit.

thats a sharp looking plane mike... I especially like the way you vaired the weathering from top to bottom... the top faded, blurred, the bottom where the "gunk" kicks up more a dirty shade... looks really nice! I am thinking on trying something like that on a AV-8B Harrier I have 80% built just for grins.. shade the panel lines, hightlight the panels etc... after seeing the second model done this way I think this is something I will take on to!

can't believe we have sooooo long to wait for this to officialy start... might have to do a warm up just to keep from getting too frustrated haha... have a He-111 I *might* do for fun... after my USN Aviation build is done...

Tom,

It's actually only 5 weeks to go till kick off day. Take away the Xmas New Year frenzy and you're really only talking about three weeks dead time.

p.s. Don't tell anybody else but if you get board after your USN Aviation build is complete, I don't think anybody will mind if you (or anybody else for that matter) wants to make a bit of an early start Whistling [:-^]

Ok so you fellas all want to have a North African GB........
Thats fine with me i don't mind moderating it but when do we start it and is it all subjects or just for us wingy thingy buildersQuestion [?]

So back to the BoB i'm gonna have a look at the LHS tommorrow for a Ju88 in 1/48, i know they have some there but i have to make sure it's a A/4 or an A/5.......
Darson don't add it to the first page yet cause i don't know whether or not i'm going to build it, if i can get the 109 done in Jan i should have enough time to do it.....

Jules, just my My 2 cents [2c] but I wouldn't mind an all subjects GB actually. I might do an aircraft and a tank. I don't do much in the way of armour so it would be fun.

As for the start date, any time after April is good for me.

No worries on the Ju88.

Nicholas, strange you should mention the M4A1. DML have just re-released their M4A1 75mm Sherman (Early). Here is a link to it from Greatmodels
http://www.greatmodels.com/cgi/display.cgi?item_num=dr6048
I have one on hold for me at the LHS and I will pick it up next pay. This one is going to be a gift from my daughters for Xmas. I should have enough bits to turn this into a British Sherman.

Jules, April 1st to July 31st sounds great to me. As for posting it to the forum, say maybe May 1st. That should give everybody (especially the ones in this build) time to advertise it to everyone else and to work out what they want to build.
Also, is this the Black Eight you are talking about?

April-July sounds fine.
North African conflict needs ALOT more coverage, it was just as important as anywhere else.
The 109 is a must, but I'll look at doing a more obscure one, just for the challenge.
But what else to build........................research time!!!!!!

Still have to order my Defiant, just doing some research on what kits I plan to build later so I can order all the A/M bits before hand, while the Aussie dollar is high.

Jules, got the barrels etc today, thanks heaps!!!!!!!

I've got some parts coming from the states that maybe be useful to you.
They messed up my last order, and sent it via surface instead of air (3months vs 2 weeks!!), might take a while, but they'll get here.

Darson, yeah mate thats the one, there's another one which was much photographed
"White 3" again from JG 27, funny how i always associate JG 27's emblem with North Africa when in reality JG 27 were wearing it on their A/C during the BoB.....

Tweety good to see i got there safely, BTW does the Defiant cutaway drawing help at allQuestion [?]

Those cutaway drawings are gonna help alot mate.

Time allowing, I would like to open up some hatches, and do some scratchbuilding.

Thats the plan anyways.

Well my warm up build is now scrap plastic. My 2 year old got a hold of it this morning. The door was left open to my office and he came in to play!!!!!
Needless to say it was a rough flight for the 110 crew Big Smile [:D] The wings and body are still together but not much else. Found a wheel about an hour ago, haven't found anything else though. My son is to much like me.

Ouch!!

my 16 year old son did the same thing to a 1:72 Airfix E-boat displayed on the top shelf of the study when he was 2. I found all the bits bar the 1:72 MG42 bow gun!

Mind you, he never did it again and learned very fast about NOT to touch Daddy's models EVER again!

cheers

I am yet to suffer the enjoyment of my son 'finding' my models!

I went to great lengths about 1 month ago to change my model bench, and make a new one, cause I busted him trying to grab the #11 blade from the bench.

This was the ol' bench-

This is the 'kiddy proof' version-

Also every model I make gets it's own perspex case and base.

Aren't kids wonderful? I got three of them, the youngest is now 4. That is part of the reason why my models were in boxes for the last 15 years! Big Smile [:D]

Now if I could just do something about that Censored [censored] CAT!!!!!!!!!!!!

LOL.. oh those last few threads take me back to my own childhood. my uncles a truck driver and built a lot of the Semi models that where available and when i was 3-4 i always wanted to play with them. of course the wheels didn't turn and they'd snap off. solution; buy a R/C kenworth for me to play with when i came over! come to think of it, he played with it more than i did....
