Tankmaster... there's a lot of oddball planes left unclaimed if ya want something different... we'd gladly let ya know what is open or what planes flew then if ya want..

I'd like that list aswell if it's alright. The model shop screwed up my order Angry [:(!]so i now have a JU52 JU86 and a BF110.
DARSON: don't update me yet since the way things are going on my end god knows what i'll have for the build, i'll keep you posted

No problems Cruzr, I'll put a list together of what can and is being built and what is still available. There are plenty of knowledgeable people on the build who can help out and add to the list to make it complete. Also, even though most people have already done this, could you post a short note on what squadron/aircraft you are building? Once the list is completed I will post it back to page 1 of the build and keep it updated.

Cheers

Darson iv'e had no luck in finding a Do17 in 1/48 and i don't yet have the skills to turn the Revell Do217 into a Do17 so my builds will be the same as before a 109E3 flown by Werner Molders and a Stuka from StG 77.......This time it's final no more changes. Lol........Thumbs Up [tup]

Those are always my last words when it comes to my build... ok this is it... I found my build... I'm making good progress on my USN Aviation build so should be in the clear for a Jan start... even might have time to get my dads two models out of the way....

Here is my list (to the best of my knowledge anyway) of the aircraft and the versions of them that operated in the Battle of Britain and who is building what. There are still plenty of more unusual aircraft waiting to be built if anybody is looking for a challenge.
As far as I can tell the F4F Martlet did not actually see combat during the battle, but 804 squadron FAA were equipped with them late in the battle so it's allowable.

If there are any changes or mods you would like made to this just let me know.

Darson, do ME 109Ds count? As these were stationed in Norway during the BoB, even if they didn't have the range to engage the RAF.

Just thought I would ask, I keep looking at that Hobbycraft 109D you see and the AM decals to go with it. Any excuse to buy another kit!!

Karl,

I have looked but I cannot find any reference to active Luftwaffe squadrons using the 109D while participating in the BoB, so I'm afraid they don't count.

I know what you mean about that Hobbycraft kit though, I am on a bit of an early 109 kick at the moment and would love to do the 109D in Condor Legion markings.

In order to keep this thread alive until we start building I thought I might post a little update on where my warmup build is at.

The cockpit is done and assembled and has turned out pretty good. I've built it OOB except for the addition of the Ultracast seat with harness. The only other item I added was an oxygen hose made out of two different grades of fuse wire. It was easy to do and looks good, so I'll be using that technique again.

I was going to use the decal for the IP but once I applied it, I knew it wasn't going to look any good so off it came and the IP was dry bushed as usual.

If anybody else is doing a BoB warmup, post your progress and maybe some photos.

Also, for all those doing Bf 109 E’s here are a couple of superb cockpit shots I found during my reference hunting.

Nice CP pics Darren
Once again it shows how different these aircrafts are from one to the next.

The main colouring on the sidewalls is different to a few other pics I have.
When I find em, I'll post em up.

Darren, thanks for that. I've got a bit of a late 30's fighter thing goping on at the moment, hence my I-16 and PZL P24G, and the 109 would fit that theme beautifully.

Think I'll just have to put that Hobbycraft 109 on my wish list.

I had a look at my Hasegawa Hurricane night fighter last night, looks like I'll be replacing the cockpit hood, wheels, decals & adding belts at the very least, and adding the wheel bay insert, as I'm not sure I can face cleaning up those ejector pin marks! Why couldn't they put those on the other side, you know the bit no one can see?

I haven't got a "warm up" build per se... working on my Naval Aviation a/c, almost to the point where the build picks up speed... got the coclpit 80% done just have to splap the fuselage together and paint!

I'm on the Ol' Guns GB G14 ATM.
Not really a warm up, seeing as I went absolutely spastic with the PEBig Smile [:D]
Couldn't help meself, just sitting there, on Squadrons web page, screaming for me to take advantage of the high Aussie dunny roll (Aus dollar)

But, after that, my warm up build will probably be a resin Fokker G1a.

Looks kinda simple, but I have a feeling that the vacform canopy is gonna be a bit of a mongrel.
Fortunately the resin parts don't look to pitted or warped, but the wings are gonna need ALOT of hollowing out so the wheel struts have at least half a chance of supporting the model.
This thing weighs a bit.
Might pop a pic into the A/C thread, see if anyone else has built this before.
That canopy really has me nervous.
Should be fun.Shy [8)]

Now there's an odd build for ya.

Luck 'o' the Irish I says.

well my warm up was another BF-110. 1/72 OOB almost complete just letting the paint cure for a few days before I add the future coat then wash. i don't have a digi cam right now so i can't post any pics but as soon as i do i'll post them. the fun part was masking the canopy which took me the better part of an hour. the only real problem i had was when i mixed the colors. The darker of the two greens was to thick when i painted the tail that it left brush strokes( i don't have an airbrush yet), so i had to fix that before i could move on. i ended up using a lighter green.

The ejector pin marks in the wheel bay insert are the most annoying aspect of this kit. Ultracst to the rescue, as they offer an excellent resin replacement.

Couldn't agree with you more Rick and for $5 you really can't go wrong.

Karl, you can order directly from the Ultracast site if you wish. I have dealt with them before & they have always provided A1 service.

Darren, Rick, thanks for that.

I tried looking for Ultracast in the UK, no joy, so it looks like a direct order is required.

Are they a Canadian or a US? Either way, how long did it take to get parts to Melbourne Darren?

That seat looks like it might end up on my shopping list as well.

Thanks

Karl

I'm interested in doing a Canadian Hurricane for my build. Can anyone point in the direction where I could go for markings for Canadian squadrons durring BoB? I mean as in a website for research or if anyone knows if someone makes Canadian markings for BoB Hurricanes.

G'day Aurora-7,

Fighter pilots of many other nations flew with the British during the BoB, including some 80 Canadians. Of these, 26 were in the RCAF's No. 1 Squadron, which arrived soon after Dunkirk; 16 flew as a team in the RAF's 242 "Canadian" Squadron; the rest were scattered among a dozen other RAF squadrons. These last included men such as PO. Johnnie Bryson, an ex-Mountie; Flt. Lt. Johnnie Kent of Winnipeg, who flew with the Poles in 303 Squadron; and FO. W. H. Nelson, who served in 74 Squadron with the South African ace Adolph "Sailor" Malan. Another 200 Canadian airmen fought in RAF Bomber and Coastal commands, which throughout the battle pounded at German invasion ports and other targets; 27 of them gave their lives.

Here is a link to some information on 1 Sqd RCAF.
http://www.raf.mod.uk/bob1940/401to601.html

edit ----
I have a great reference book on the BoB at home (I'm at work at the moment Big Smile [:D]) and can give you the squadron codes for these tonight.
----

As far as decals go you should be able to re-create the squadron codes by using generic letter and number decals available from most of the leading manufacturers

Jules,
One look at sheet of PE like that sends shivers down my spine, I don't mind a bit of resin with a couple of pieces of PE, but those big frets give me the willies.

Jules, that much PE in the Stuka is going to look truely impressive.
As for the resin thing, I have no idea why I do it to myselfConfused [%-)]

Darren, you truely are a walking knowledge bank!Thumbs Up [tup]

Regarding the Defiant, wonder how long it will take for some A/M bits to become available for it?
Actually, are there ANY A/M bits for a Defiant in 1/48???
Maybe could modify them to suit, but mostly I'd like to replace the turret guns with metal or decent resin bits.
