Joe-great job on the Hurricane.

Dave-ditto on the He111. Ran into a similar issue on the landing gear on mine-just didn't want to fit (based on the instructions). The 'support strut' angles/curveture just don't look quite right, but I can't make myself disassemble and try again. That and the fact that I had to super glue them in to get them to hold. Lesson learned-more test fitting!

great Darren... you had to suggest that... it's just one more place for me to yak!!! Wink [;)]

Speaking of Kremps... I emailed Sean but thought you should know too Jules... she's in the hospital again--- with gangrene of the gums... she thinks it's related when she was a prison guard dog back in the big war.. (she told me she was in a K-9 unit, didn't know it was as a K-9) She was sic'd on a prisoner with a wooden leg and some of the splinters must have been in there for years waiting for this to happen... Anyway you might wanna stop by and visit her as she's been mumbling your name... Sean and I were a little upset because we were sure we'd nab the estate if the old bag kicked off... looks like you're in line for it! Sad [:(]

Jules, good to see you back mate, your Stuka is looking great but where have you been hiding? Oh an as for badges, I like the one above (on this page) the best, the only thing I would change is to darken the font on the 2005. Apart from that it's spot on.
BTW, any chance you want to post the Nth African GB in forum a tad early (like now Big Smile [:D]) leave the start date the same but put in to advertise the build and give people a chance to decide what they want to build.

Joe, lovely Hurricane Thumbs Up [tup] you've really done a great job on that kit.

Raz, Hmmmmm sweet looking He-111, looking forward to more pictures of that one.

Cheers

Joe Rugby Your Hurricane looks great. Keep up the good work.

Razordws That's looking awesome. The flat coat is so smooth, I'll ahve to give that MM stuff a go. Was it the enamel or acrylic?

Hmmmm..... this North African GB sounds like a bit of fun. I'll have to gte involved in this one from the start. It sounds like I missed out on too much fun in this one.

Time for a sneak peak.

I need to finish up the guns, easy enough to install through the upper gunners position. Lots to do yet on the underside although she is standing on her own three legs. More pics to follow in the next couple of days. Big Smile [:D]

EDIT: Oh ya, I ended up redoing the red "C" and was much happier with the result. Rick, I used the model master flat top coat and was very happy with it. Thanks for the tip. Thumbs Up [tup]

well I would be happy to keep the award, but I set the regulator to self destruct tonight at 1-pm Central time... when you wake up there will only be some dust elft around the compressor... and the decals? as yellow as my grandmothers wedding dress!!!! (and she is 98!!!)

sorry Wink [;)]

thanks for understanding Tanky... it's just been a busy couple of weeks....

No, no you keep the award. I'll only revoke it if you forcibly take the regulator back and intercept my decals before they get here.Wink [;)]

Where's the N Africa GB thread? Even if I don't join I wanna see the madness ensue. Aussies and a texan make for interesting conversation...

Joe, looks great from here! especially because it is a breaking in kit AND it is an old airfix mold! Wait till you hit on one of those Tamiya or Hasegawa kits... you'll be surprised how good it'll look even if it were your second model back! Something about very little sanding and almost no putty (none at all on the last 2 Tamiya kits I built) give you more time to enjoy and spruce up the kit!!! And don't ever worry about posting pics with us... believe me I see more flaws on my kits than anyone else.. I post them anyway for fun!!!

Dave - OUCH!!!! I know the feeling... I painted the dive brakes on my SBD opposite colors (painted the uppers light grey and lowers navy blue/gray) and sat there for at least 5 min trying to figure out how I was going to get it to fit... then it dawned on me... just glad the glue didn't leave too many lumps...

Dave almost did the same thing but for some reason I was thinking ahead and I marked them so I would know where they go, and in the end I still tried to do it backwards.

Sometimes I just don't know where my brain is!!!!

Started to install the landing gear in the He 111 a couple of days ago only to discover that I got the landing bays mixed up and installed in the wrong wing section. Banged Head [banghead]Blindfold [X-)]Dead [xx(]. Somehow I don't think the landing gear is supposed to be at a 60 degree angle to the wing! Anyway, after I calmed down (this is supposed to be a relaxing hobby?) I have been able to reconfigure the gear so that it looks okay. No one will know except me when its done. Just thought I'd share this with those of you planning on doing this kit. Pics coming soon!! Big Smile [:D]

Joe, you did a great job on the Hurricane.

The first kit back is always a tuffy, and an Airfix kit just makes it doubly difficult.

Having said that I'm sure that Hasa's Hurricane has Airfix genes, as the fit of a few parts is distinctly reminiscent of the former's products.

I'm still applying Milliput to the rear wing to fuselage joint. I think I'll end up re-scribing the fabric marks with a homemade scribing tool.

Joe, you do like some challenging kits. I've got lazy in my old age & try to find the easier builds these days Smile [:)].

Sure why not...The Airfix is for strictly sentimental reasons. The Marquette was for price, I wanted a kit to "practice" on...you know scribing panel lines, closing in wheel wells, different paint/weathering techniques etc. If it works out, lots of pride, if not I am not out a ton of $ (speaking in relative terms).

Point of Fact, the Marquette may be a test bed for a really "big" project. The detail on the kit is not bad, it is a mix of raised and recessed panel lines. The layout is correct for the type, Yak-3. The fit is a bad day in Bosnia ! I am filling and sanding ALOT!!!

So the Imp of the Perverse grabbed me and whispered "Make this the master for a resin mold" . Okay I said not knowing anything or anything better to say...

My stash is as follows (all 1/72):

Hasegawa
F/A-18
A-4
Tamiya
Bell X-1 {1/48} [for the OOTB GB]
P-51D
Airfix
F-86
A-26
Avon
Lancaster Dam Buster {Just picked up on E-Bay}

Razor, Thad and Rick...

Thanks for the boost! I was really apprehensive about putting it up there, your words mean alot, especially when I have seen your work. Biggest things learned were;

Nostalgia does not cut it...Airfix is a blast from the past, memories are fun, but raised detail, scant pit fixings and 8 up decals are no fun now that I am older.

A little research can go along way, in this case just looking for some different decals helped alot.

I hope to have a new home computer soon so I can post my stuff...Waikong thanks a bunch for your help!!!

On the Bench Now:

Airfix A-26 Firebomber 1/72 just started, cockpit being scratched, all raised rivets are gone and rescribing started. In the back ground of the Hurri photo you can see the beginings of the pit for the A-26.

Marquette Yak-3 1/72 not bad detail for this maker, heaps of flash though. Panel lines are a mix of raised and recessed. Fit is a pig's breakfast! Buy stock in Squadron cause by the time this one is done I will have sunk a fortune into Green Putty !!! Seriously considering using the kit as a master for a resin casting. Not counting the filling sanding and rescribing the build of the major components is 60%, more or less, wheel wells are closed in...

North Africa Group Build?! Why was I not informed? With the nutty Aussies and the Texans in it? I have to go find a kit that fought in North Africa!!!!

Posting for Joe Rugby
Posted by waikong on Wednesday, February 23, 2005 8:46 AM
Due to technical difficulties, I'm posting this for Joe Rugy:

Submitted for your approval...the quality of photo is not that great and neither is the submission, but what the h*ll, if I am getting back into it this is as good a step as any...

Airfix 1/72 Scale. 17 Squadron Pacific Coast Decals. Built OOTB except for the "tape" over the gun ports which is red tissue paper put down with diluted white glue and decal solvent. Poly Scale paints. Dry brush and pastel weathering. I was not thrilled with the prop hub. I wanted to stick to my original plan which was to go OOTB for as much as possible.

This is my first "serious" effort in over five years, it is actually more like ten years. It is a good reminder or yardstick of how much farther I must go.

Many thanks to Waikong for posting this.

Well, just ordered the Eduard masks from the LHS, they called JB hobbies and they are in stock. I will get them on Monday. So here goes. Are the Eduard ones re-useable?

cheers
