Darren Nice looking 109, the mottle looks fine.

Bear in mind it was often applied with a sponge or even a broom!!!!!

My Hurricane cockpit has received a base coat of interior green, and a coat of RLM66 on all the black bits, as I find straight black too stark. Today will therefore be spent painting the details in and around the cockpit, like the seat harnesses etc, and hopefully I'll get a wash applied tomorrow. It always seems to take me forever to build cockpits!!!

On a slightly less happy note, I cut out the aelierons (sic) ready for the Ultracast replacements, only to find that the replacements are 1.5mm too short. Bloody hell!!! Guess I'll be busy with the styrene stock and super glue later then.

Oh yeah, nice 109 Darren. I really should do one of those.

I was also wondering if anyone could help me with some decals. After looking at the sources for RCAF 1 sqdn, their fuselage roundels were the smaller version. They were about the same size as the fuselage code lettering The ones in the kit are the big ones. Would anyone have a spare two of the smaller fuselage roundels for the hurricane in 1:48?
thanks

Hey guys, I gots me a digicam! Tom, I ended up getting the M407 but not for the resaon the other day. The Staples rebate was for if you bought a printer too (gotta read the fine printe, doh!Dunce [D)], I really don't need three printers when I have only one 'puter. Anyhoo, after 4 hours dragging my sick wife around Calgary this afternoon I found a good price on it at BestbuyTongue [:P], I'll be going to get a bigger memory card later. But enough of my boring adventures, I have some pics to show you from my time playing with it.Big Smile [:D]

Seeing as I am still new to this forum I thought I should post some pics of my workspace and stuff I've done (old, crappy, before I learned some tricks, stuff). I haven't done too much on my Hurricane lately as the Typhoon was demanding priority.

So with out further ado, here is the abreviated pictoral story of me!
first the 'Office'

you can see what I have done with my hurricane in this one (the wings are just dry fitted.

Here are a few of my 'good' models. All of these except the AVG P-40b were built before age 15 (I am 28 now). The bf-109g6 is my pride and joy, the one I won an award for (you can see it leaning on the wall behind it) I did it completely with brushes.

Here are some of my Typhoon, I started it in 1996 and completely sratched the cockpit. I am really looking forward to seeing it finished soon, now that I know a lot of new/different techniques.

Thanks for letting me share and if this is a little too much, sorry, I kinda went shutter happy with the new digital cameraEvil [}:)].

Also Rick, it turned out I hadn't solved the issue with my aribrush, I needed a pressure regulator, got one now and finally the system work! I was nearly ready to pull my hair out over that one!Black Eye [B)]Banged Head [banghead]

This week looks like I may not get much done as I have a mini reno job to do in our second bathroom. ohwellSad [:(] Talk to you all later!Smile [:)]

Daniel, The Tamiya Spit kinda falls together. Only problem I've had is with the clear parts, which are a little too narrow.

Got to the hobby shop yesterday and picked up the Tamiya Spitfire Mk.1 kit. Looks like a good kit in the box, anyone else built it? And did you have any problems with it? I also got the eduard PE set for it. It looks very good too. The flaps are gonna be fun to fold, but I hope think I can manage it.

Darren - Your 109 looks very nice. I'd like to see what decals you have. Thanks.

Nice 109 Darren!!Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]
Don't concern yourself with the mottling effect mate, sometimes you couldn't ven see the mottle on 109's, and other times the colour they chose barely stood out in contrast to the base colour.
Looks great from where I'm sitting.

Gonna try and finish my 109 tonight, providing the kid and missus give me some peace and quiet.
All I have left is some pastel work, and to remove the masking from the canopy.
Going for a new job on Monday arvo, if that pans out, will have 0 time for modelling for around a month, then will have a bucket of time after thatSmile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Tom, instead of doing a Stang, hows about a CAC Sabre!!!!!!!!!

Another great 109!!!! Thanks for the look. Sigh [sigh] so many kits... so little time!

I was hoping to start painting the He 111 today but after spraying the interior color on the clear parts it seams my alignment of the main canopy (all 4 pieces) is not as good as I thought it was. Fortunately I only used white glue so I'll pop it open and try again. Sigh [sigh]

Hi all, with all the 109 fever going on around here I though I might post a couple of shots of the Bf-109E3 that I did as a warm-up for this build. It doesn't count as part of the GB itself, but what the heck it's a 109 and it was used on Eagle Day in the BoB.
This was my first effort at a Luftwaffe mottled finish with an air brush and it turned out a tad subtle perhaps, but practice makes perfect. The seat is Ultracast (what else) but the rest is OOB.

Jules, thanks again for the replacement canopy on this baby.

Daniel, give me a yell when you decide what kit you want, I have spare AM decals for both the Spitfire and 109E3.

Oh yeah I almost forgot, NOBODY expects the Spanish Inquisition!
Our chief weapon is surprise...surprise and fear...fear and surprise....
Our two weapons are fear and surprise... and ruthless efficiency....
Our three weapons are fear, surprise, and ruthless efficiency...
and an almost fanatical devotion to the Pope....
Our four... no...
Amongst our weapons... Amongst our weaponry...
are such elements as fear, surprise...
I'll come in again.

Cheers
Darren

Well the plot thickens Rick.. had plans for a lengthy modeling session this weekend then my parents called and said they are in town and want to come over tomorrow... I love seeing them but now my modelling plans are in the dust! I guess Sunday, or Monday.. I am off work monday for Presidents day and the wife isn't so maybe thats my best shot!!!

Problem is... which model to do next!! the P-51 for the Tuskegee airmen or the P-47 for Latin American Air Forces GB... the Typhoon is still waiting on a few more pieces I ordered to arrive...

I think my favorite part was the witch trial... " A DUCK! "

But I still like Jabberwocky better... and some of their skits...

"This parrot is dead!... it has ceased to be, it is no longer with us, it is an ex-parrot, if his feet weren't nailed to the perch he'd be pushing up daisies about now!"

nothing to report this week.. it was way too busy to do anything... will update yall tomorrow as an ice cold one is waiting on me as I speak...

Jules Mate, that is a problem, those brits should have used them during the BoB (I know Hellcats weren't around until '43, but that's no excuse Smile [:)]). Thanks for the kit info though, I'll have a look at those kits tomorrow (if they've got them a the LHS). Those holy hand grenades should help clear up the cane toads too (if you can remember how to count to fiveWink [;)]).

Rick JG 54 sounds like a cool idea IMHO but i also like JG 26......
BTW I have the Aircraft of the Aces series 60 books in totalApprove [^]

Tweets When i finish the pit i'll post up a pic or 2 of the 109F but it won't be anything spectacular i'm only gonna add Eduard belts to it, i kinda like my 109's with closed canopiesThumbs Up [tup]
BTW I'm also planning on grabbing the Eduard Triplane sometime in the future and from what i've seen they didn't have that much rigging for a WW I A/C, Now Roden's Felixstowe flying boat is the opposite, i have the kit and the rigging is everywhereBlack Eye [B)]

Daniel No Hellcats in this GB mateSad [:(]Bummer eh........seriously you can't go wrong with the Tamiya Spitfire MK 1 of BF 109 E-4/7 both great kitsBig Smile [:D]

OH yeah the Stuka copped a coat of RLM 66 in the interior last night and i've started detailing it but the kids decided not to let me do too much.........

Tom Always remember:

Never ask a dancing bear for gentleman's excuse me.

Always sound advice from Mr Python.

Tanky Keep pressing on with the Dornier. I'm working on their Do217K, and despite it's age it is a pretty sweet kit.

Progress on the Hurricane has been slow, however I did manage to spend a few minutes dry fitting the Ultracast wheel bay insert, only to find that it was warped. Still a few minutes work with some hot water, and it is now back in shape. With a long weekend iminent I'm looking forward to making some real progress.

A nod's a good as a wink to a blind bat, eh?!! Say no more, say no more.

Ok fellas, I might finally be able to look at this group build. I have got three others going, but I might get to a hobby shop tomorrow tto buy a kit for this build. Hopefully, I'll get a kit with decals for a BoB bird in it already, can anyone recommend a spitfire, hurricane or 109 1/48 kit that would be suitable OOB? My funds won't cover AM decals.

BTW, Rick, that 109 of yours is beautiful. One of the nicest I've seen. Now I want to do one, You've inspired me. Thanks.Smile [:)]
