Hmmmm why did i decide to do this Stuka, because i needed some putty practice before i take on the Sabre thats why..........The engine cowl on this thing doesn't seem to go together that well despite the time i spent cleaning it up, i've come to the conclusion that the only reason for the multitude of parts that make up the engine cowl is so different parts can be used to make later model Stukas with the same wings and fueselage.........
Anyways i'm gonna have to do some major filling and will have to rescribe some panel lines that just have to be there......

BTW can you scribe over puttyQuestion [?] i use revell Plasto

oooh a quality B-26 -OR- Do17... how about a Halifax thrown in for good measure??? I would love to see a new tooling of that!!! hmmm if only Accurate Miniatures got the Halifax Bee under their bonnet I would just die!!!

Sean, Also, a quick question, what alcohol do you use?

knowing Tweety and the hardship he endured before he finally escaped Happy Acres.... it would be Jamesons Irish Whiskey... makes the paint reaaaallll smooth! not an unpleasant odor either!

Sean, Great job on the 109 Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup] that camo scheme looks absolutely fantastic. Thanks also for the run down on the smoke method, I am definitely going to give that a whirl (maybe even on the Spitfire). Also, a quick question, what alcohol do you use?

Daniel, cool link thanks a lot for that. Also tee paint that I use for all my RAF/RAAF interiors is Model Master Enamel RAF Interior Green 2062.

Tanky, I've been playing around with both. The exhaust stains on my 109 were Tamiya smoke thinned 50/50 with Tamiya thinner and built up in light coats. Pastels I mainly use for panel fading etc.

Something completely off topic now, did anybody else read that Hase are releasing a 1/72 Lancaster as the next in their 1/72 bombers series. 1/72 or not, that one will be a must have for me.

Cheers
Darren

Thanks for the info on british interior green Tom and Rick.

I also use pastels. I like the effects I can get with them. The easy off isn't a problem if you spray a very light coat of flat clear over the model after weathering.

Pastels are very useful, but the "easy off" can be a mixed blessing. Sometimes they come off when you don't want them to Smile [:)].

Daniel, the interior of the Spit was British Interior Green Grey, FS34226. Floquil Military Colors made a perfect match, but they are long OOP ( Thank you Testors Disapprove [V] ). The ModelMaster RAF Interior Green is close enough However. The color is somewhere between RLM 02 & US Interior Green.

Dave-you're a better man than I. I have enough trouble trying to paint and assemble 1/48th. Hands & eyes just aren't what they used to be! If it weren't for the lack of space at the house (and the cost) 1/32nd would interest me!

I hope that Hasegawa did a better job on the landing gear assembly than Monogram.

Tom, I explained the smoke in the A/C thread, but cause I like ya *cough*, I'll give ya some more info here.

What I do is mix up around 30% smoke, to a custom thinner mix, made up of distilled water, alcohol and acrylic retarder.

The smoke is hard to see to start with, unless you lay it on thick, which looks 'fake' IMO.

With the thinner mix, it takes around 3 coats to stand out to the casual observer, but during those 3 coats, it can give just the right amount texture to an otherwise dull panel line.
The demarcation lines on the wings are quite sharp after I sprayed them using the Blu Tak method, but 2 coats of the smoke, and it softens them up nicely, wthout creating a stark contrast between the colours.
This is the same with the entire kit.
Usually msot people will pre or post shade, but the smoke seems to nail it after a little practice.
The custom flat coat makes a HUGE differance also, cause there is almost zero reflection, and just a touch of sheen.

Bob - I think you will find the SBD kit fantastic... no fit issues except the trailing edge of the wing where it fits into the body... when you get there remind me and I will try to explain what I did to get mine in... in fact it went together almost as good as the martlet.... be prepared to take a bit of time in the interior though... it's fairly detailed!!!

Sean-great job on the bf109

Dave-ditto on the He111. Is that the Monogram kit?

Thanks all for the input on the PE-much appriciated.
Spent almost 2 hours last night fighting the wheel well flaps and the landing gear assembly on my He111. However, the worst is done (he says hopefully) and should be finished late weekend. Looking forward to the Acc. Min. SBD based on everyone's reviews in the various GB's

Darren - no I am going to build the 111 on my own later down the line...

Dave - as tempting as it might sound to do it just to see what they said about it , no I was just picking on Tanky... he knows I like to build on the fringe haha...

Karl - it was enough for now... going at my Typhoon for the Aussie build as we speak then not sure what I start from there.. have a P-47 for the Latin American build to do nd a P-51 for the Tuskegee airmen build... but both have open ending dates so there is no rush...

Tweets - already said it in the AC topic but that looks superb!!! really nice job on the weathering! Tell me a little about how you did the smoke shading if you don't mind!

Daniel - the RAF Interior green is much softer and less bright green as the US equivalent.. I don't have a good analogy but MM makes RAF Interior green in acrylic, maybe they have a color chart on their site... otherwise you might just google it.

That looks awesome Tweets. That's one of the nicest paint jobs I've seen on a 109. And the weathering is spot on too. And that finish is very smooth. Thanks for sharing.

The photos are good, the only thing I can see wrong with them is a bit of noise. Try running the images through this program www.neatimage.com . It makes photos look heaps clearer.

Well, here she is!!
This represents 'Yellow 10' from II/JG54, stationed at Hermalinghen, France late in the BoB campaign.

Sorry the pics are a tad fuzzy, I am working on getting more lighting for my pics.Sad [:(]

The only A/M bits used were Eduard seatbelts (Thanks Jules!!Wink [;)]), and all the paints are Gunze.
Shading was done using Tamiya Smoke, and weathering finished off with pastels and graphite.
The final flat coat is a custom mix of Windex, Pledge-One-Go and Tamiya Flat base.

I had a ball doing this build with yas, and unfortunately I wont get the chance to build the DefiantSad [:(]
But I'm sure we will have just as much funBig Smile [:D] during the Nth African GB, not to mention the Aussie GB going on now.

Gonna post this in the A/C thread as well, and try and get some feedback on anything I might have missed.

I have a question for you fine chaps. What colour would the interior on a spitfire Mk.1 be? Is it similar to US interior green? Thanks.

QUOTE: I had a play with the new Gunze buffable metallics the other day on the Ultrcast wheel bay insert. The finish is really fine with an even surface that looks just like sheet alloy.

They're good aren't they. I've been using them for a while and use them alot. They even come out well after brushing them on (that's the best bit, because I get too lazy to clean my AB.)

Tom What the Martlet wasn't enough for ya?

The pit on the Hurricane is almost complete now. Just needs dry brushing and an application of Future to the dials. I'll be putting the fuselage together and cleaning up any seams before inserting the actual tub itself, as well as attaching the upper wing panels.

I had a play with the new Gunze buffable metallics the other day on the Ultrcast wheel bay insert. Wow!! [wow] The finish is really fine with an even surface that looks just like sheet alloy.

I'm hoping to have the main airframe components together over the weekend. I can't believe how easy this thing is to build, a positive joy, especially after the Huma Ju287!!!!

Promise I'll actually post some pictures soon.
