Tanky, Congrats on yer 1000 posts.
Nice He111 Bob. I like the camo on top.
SO how many kits do you guys have stashed? I only have the two I'm working on currently. I plan on getting more but so far I haven't made it to any LHS, besides, the wife kinda thinks it is pointless to have kits and not be buidling them right away. Sigh [sigh]
Now that Valentines day is out of the way, I can get back to the Hurricane!

Jay: Like I mentioned earlier, I only have about half a dozen. My wife thinks the same as yours. There was a thread earlier on "show your stash". Some people were better stocked than most LHS' I've been to. Absolutely incredible. The only thing I can figure is either:
a) they are planning on living forever (thats how long it will take them to build them all)
b) they own shares in styrene futures
c) they are divorced/single
d) they didn't get the memo (usually sent by the wife) that there is supposed to be a balance between the satisfaction of building a well detailed model and the instant gratification of buying new kits!
e) all of the above

I'll see if I can find the thread for you and post it here!

Nope: must be archived and everyone has dropped their photos in the other thread that I knew about. Just picture the largest LHS you've ever seen in someone's basement and you'll ger the picture.[:0]

non-BoB GB question for the group-do the Eduard photo-etch detail kits come with instructions (for placement of items) or do I just need to do research (looking for a reason to go back to the USAAF museum in Dayton). I'm considering diving it to 'enhance' an Academy P-40C that I have lined up for the Pacific 60th GB.

Thanks in advance.

Bob: yep, they come with instructions (sorry to ruin your trip plans). However, the instrcutions are sometimes ambiguous and the parts simplified so the more research the better (trips back on Big Smile [:D]). I found a He 111 interior shot that I wish I would have had BEFORE I put mine together!

Have Fun!

Well, the instructions range from pretty good to "HUH ? ", but Eduard is actually better than most AM PE suppliers.

Sign - Ditto [#ditto]

Eduard instructions can be good, but for some complicated parts that involve alot of folding, they can be a bit hard to understand.

Hmm, how many kits in the stash, well about 30-40 I suppose Whistling [:-^], but SWMBO has placed a buying embargo on me now and I am slowly but surely working through the kits that I have. Until something really cool comes along that is Evil [}:)]

I have found in the Eduard sets that I have used that the instructions are generally pretty good although I should say, I have really only used a few of their zoom seats and some seatbelts.

Dave - don't I know it!!! if she had he way I would have a fourth airbrush now just because I mentioned it! I tried to tell her I wanted to get more used to the 155 before I went out and bought a new one and she still bugs me!! I guess next kit I buy will be that Monogram B-36... for some reason everytime we go to the LHS she points it out and says "build that one"

the 111 is looking good! thats kinda the scheme I am doing mine in... there is a little mottling in it but not much... keep the pics coming!!!

Tom What the Martlet wasn't enough for ya?

The pit on the Hurricane is almost complete now. Just needs dry brushing and an application of Future to the dials. I'll be putting the fuselage together and cleaning up any seams before inserting the actual tub itself, as well as attaching the upper wing panels.

I had a play with the new Gunze buffable metallics the other day on the Ultrcast wheel bay insert. Wow!! [wow] The finish is really fine with an even surface that looks just like sheet alloy.

I'm hoping to have the main airframe components together over the weekend. I can't believe how easy this thing is to build, a positive joy, especially after the Huma Ju287!!!!

Promise I'll actually post some pictures soon.

I have a question for you fine chaps. What colour would the interior on a spitfire Mk.1 be? Is it similar to US interior green? Thanks.

They're good aren't they. I've been using them for a while and use them alot. They even come out well after brushing them on (that's the best bit, because I get too lazy to clean my AB.)

Well, here she is!!
This represents 'Yellow 10' from II/JG54, stationed at Hermalinghen, France late in the BoB campaign.

Sorry the pics are a tad fuzzy, I am working on getting more lighting for my pics.Sad [:(]

The only A/M bits used were Eduard seatbelts (Thanks Jules!!Wink [;)]), and all the paints are Gunze.
Shading was done using Tamiya Smoke, and weathering finished off with pastels and graphite.
The final flat coat is a custom mix of Windex, Pledge-One-Go and Tamiya Flat base.

I had a ball doing this build with yas, and unfortunately I wont get the chance to build the DefiantSad [:(]
But I'm sure we will have just as much funBig Smile [:D] during the Nth African GB, not to mention the Aussie GB going on now.

Gonna post this in the A/C thread as well, and try and get some feedback on anything I might have missed.

That looks awesome Tweets. That's one of the nicest paint jobs I've seen on a 109. And the weathering is spot on too. And that finish is very smooth. Thanks for sharing.

The photos are good, the only thing I can see wrong with them is a bit of noise. Try running the images through this program www.neatimage.com . It makes photos look heaps clearer.

Darren - no I am going to build the 111 on my own later down the line...

Dave - as tempting as it might sound to do it just to see what they said about it , no I was just picking on Tanky... he knows I like to build on the fringe haha...

Karl - it was enough for now... going at my Typhoon for the Aussie build as we speak then not sure what I start from there.. have a P-47 for the Latin American build to do nd a P-51 for the Tuskegee airmen build... but both have open ending dates so there is no rush...

Tweets - already said it in the AC topic but that looks superb!!! really nice job on the weathering! Tell me a little about how you did the smoke shading if you don't mind!

Daniel - the RAF Interior green is much softer and less bright green as the US equivalent.. I don't have a good analogy but MM makes RAF Interior green in acrylic, maybe they have a color chart on their site... otherwise you might just google it.

Sean-great job on the bf109

Dave-ditto on the He111. Is that the Monogram kit?

Thanks all for the input on the PE-much appriciated.
Spent almost 2 hours last night fighting the wheel well flaps and the landing gear assembly on my He111. However, the worst is done (he says hopefully) and should be finished late weekend. Looking forward to the Acc. Min. SBD based on everyone's reviews in the various GB's

Bob - I think you will find the SBD kit fantastic... no fit issues except the trailing edge of the wing where it fits into the body... when you get there remind me and I will try to explain what I did to get mine in... in fact it went together almost as good as the martlet.... be prepared to take a bit of time in the interior though... it's fairly detailed!!!

Tom, I explained the smoke in the A/C thread, but cause I like ya *cough*, I'll give ya some more info here.

What I do is mix up around 30% smoke, to a custom thinner mix, made up of distilled water, alcohol and acrylic retarder.

The smoke is hard to see to start with, unless you lay it on thick, which looks 'fake' IMO.

With the thinner mix, it takes around 3 coats to stand out to the casual observer, but during those 3 coats, it can give just the right amount texture to an otherwise dull panel line.
The demarcation lines on the wings are quite sharp after I sprayed them using the Blu Tak method, but 2 coats of the smoke, and it softens them up nicely, wthout creating a stark contrast between the colours.
This is the same with the entire kit.
Usually msot people will pre or post shade, but the smoke seems to nail it after a little practice.
The custom flat coat makes a HUGE differance also, cause there is almost zero reflection, and just a touch of sheen.

Dave-you're a better man than I. I have enough trouble trying to paint and assemble 1/48th. Hands & eyes just aren't what they used to be! If it weren't for the lack of space at the house (and the cost) 1/32nd would interest me!

I hope that Hasegawa did a better job on the landing gear assembly than Monogram.

Daniel, the interior of the Spit was British Interior Green Grey, FS34226. Floquil Military Colors made a perfect match, but they are long OOP ( Thank you Testors Disapprove [V] ). The ModelMaster RAF Interior Green is close enough However. The color is somewhere between RLM 02 & US Interior Green.
