Nice 109 Darren!!Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]
Don't concern yourself with the mottling effect mate, sometimes you couldn't ven see the mottle on 109's, and other times the colour they chose barely stood out in contrast to the base colour.
Looks great from where I'm sitting.

Gonna try and finish my 109 tonight, providing the kid and missus give me some peace and quiet.
All I have left is some pastel work, and to remove the masking from the canopy.
Going for a new job on Monday arvo, if that pans out, will have 0 time for modelling for around a month, then will have a bucket of time after thatSmile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Tom, instead of doing a Stang, hows about a CAC Sabre!!!!!!!!!

don't worry about it. I'm not really close to decalling at all yet.

Got to the hobby shop yesterday and picked up the Tamiya Spitfire Mk.1 kit. Looks like a good kit in the box, anyone else built it? And did you have any problems with it? I also got the eduard PE set for it. It looks very good too. The flaps are gonna be fun to fold, but I hope think I can manage it.

Darren - Your 109 looks very nice. I'd like to see what decals you have. Thanks.

Daniel, The Tamiya Spit kinda falls together. Only problem I've had is with the clear parts, which are a little too narrow.

Hey guys, I gots me a digicam! Tom, I ended up getting the M407 but not for the resaon the other day. The Staples rebate was for if you bought a printer too (gotta read the fine printe, doh!Dunce [D)], I really don't need three printers when I have only one 'puter. Anyhoo, after 4 hours dragging my sick wife around Calgary this afternoon I found a good price on it at BestbuyTongue [:P], I'll be going to get a bigger memory card later. But enough of my boring adventures, I have some pics to show you from my time playing with it.Big Smile [:D]

Seeing as I am still new to this forum I thought I should post some pics of my workspace and stuff I've done (old, crappy, before I learned some tricks, stuff). I haven't done too much on my Hurricane lately as the Typhoon was demanding priority.

So with out further ado, here is the abreviated pictoral story of me!
first the 'Office'

you can see what I have done with my hurricane in this one (the wings are just dry fitted.

Here are a few of my 'good' models. All of these except the AVG P-40b were built before age 15 (I am 28 now). The bf-109g6 is my pride and joy, the one I won an award for (you can see it leaning on the wall behind it) I did it completely with brushes.

Here are some of my Typhoon, I started it in 1996 and completely sratched the cockpit. I am really looking forward to seeing it finished soon, now that I know a lot of new/different techniques.

Thanks for letting me share and if this is a little too much, sorry, I kinda went shutter happy with the new digital cameraEvil [}:)].

Also Rick, it turned out I hadn't solved the issue with my aribrush, I needed a pressure regulator, got one now and finally the system work! I was nearly ready to pull my hair out over that one!Black Eye [B)]Banged Head [banghead]

This week looks like I may not get much done as I have a mini reno job to do in our second bathroom. ohwellSad [:(] Talk to you all later!Smile [:)]

Oh yeah, nice 109 Darren. I really should do one of those.

I was also wondering if anyone could help me with some decals. After looking at the sources for RCAF 1 sqdn, their fuselage roundels were the smaller version. They were about the same size as the fuselage code lettering The ones in the kit are the big ones. Would anyone have a spare two of the smaller fuselage roundels for the hurricane in 1:48?
thanks

Darren Nice looking 109, the mottle looks fine.

Bear in mind it was often applied with a sponge or even a broom!!!!!

My Hurricane cockpit has received a base coat of interior green, and a coat of RLM66 on all the black bits, as I find straight black too stark. Today will therefore be spent painting the details in and around the cockpit, like the seat harnesses etc, and hopefully I'll get a wash applied tomorrow. It always seems to take me forever to build cockpits!!!

On a slightly less happy note, I cut out the aelierons (sic) ready for the Ultracast replacements, only to find that the replacements are 1.5mm too short. Bloody hell!!! Guess I'll be busy with the styrene stock and super glue later then.

Once that is, I've made the 100 mile round trip to work to pick up part of my wife's Valentines gift which I managed to leave in my desk on Friday.Banged Head [banghead] I'm not back in work till Wednesday, just sods law I guess.

well been out and about a bit this weekend so haven't posted much... got some foam board to make a suitable photo cube to get the lighting right on my model pics... going to take better pics of the Martlet today... also a mere smidgeon to finishing on my SBD... just dullcoat and glue the glass and hoisting cable in...

I am modeling it without ordnance with canopy closed, flaps open... as if it were sitting on the tarmac somewhere... Every SBD I have seen so far has been modeled canopy open, dive brakes at full and a full load of ordnance. While I may do one like this with gears up to hang (would make an interesting looking ceiling thingy) I think this would be more appropriate to what you would see at the airfield or on the flight deck after landing etc... I know I know I know a different GB but I like talking with you all a lot better!

Bye for now! going model!!!

Good to see everyone making progress-a lot of good work posted in this forum. I keep fighting the urge to get a bf109 and complete for this build. Only so much time in a day...

Assembled the interior of the He111 last night-either I was having trouble reading (which is possible) or the instructions were less than clear-a lot of second guessing going on. Kinda doesn't matter (other than the fact that I am a perfectionist)-the greenhouse is thick enough to distort any detail present. And the fit is none too good either. Next time I tackle a project like this, I'll complete the interior first, attach the greenhouse and then putty as necessary. Ended up putting some thick super glue in the cracks and will touch-up paint later-which I need to do on the greenhouse anyway. By painting the greenhouse seperate, I have managed to 'mis-match' paint shades. Luckly, I still have the mask sheet, so the masks that I used from the main sheet will provide a nice template to cut the masking tape as needed. Another interesting thing I learned-tried using Testor's 'clear plastic' cement (looks like watered down Elmer's to me) and that was not holding the greenhouse in place. I had read (not sure if it was here or elsewhere) that if the canopy had been Future'd, then it wouldn't fog up if regular cement were used. As frustration set in, I gave it a try and viola, it worked. Ahhh, this is such a learning and growing process.....

Well, I have to go and complete the bi-monthly bill paying rituial and play video games with my son-might get to model at some point today.....

[b]Tom[/b} The Martlet looks great, the photo cube makes a big difference. Might have to have a go at one of those myself.

100 round trip complete, I ended up spraying various components of my Ju287 and Do217K, neither of which are for this GB. Still the evening lies ahead, so once I've bathed the kids and been for a run I' ll settle down to a further spot of detail painting.

Tom, excellent build of the Martlett. Looks great, but I think the White Balance on your pics is a little off. I am getting more inspiration everyday.

Course, inspiration doesn't equate to perspiration Smile [:)].

thanks all.... Not the best build I have done, but definitely one of, if not THE funnest kit/details I have had the pleasure to put together!!

Rick - yeah I know it is... I am playing with my camera trying to even it out.. this new digicam has been a bit of a learning curve for me... there's all these buttons and knobs and settings you can make... moreso than any of the others I have had...

on those, I realized after I posted them I had the autowhite set to flourescent light so it added too much red... gonna reshoot one or two later and if they come out good, post them. this time I gotta remember the little pic of the light bulb is what I need to see in the viewfinder haha...

Jay: welcome to the digital age. Looking forward to seeing more progress pics from now on.

Tom: That first pic looks like its sitting in a puddle of water. One of your digital experiments? I know what you mean about the learning curve though. One of the happiest days was learning my camera had a light source correction setting. No more having to color correct in photoshop Big Smile [:D]

Bob: After spending most of yesterday trying to get the greenhouse to sit properly I can relate. I had to take it apart and start over. Look forward to seeing some progress pics (gave mine a base coat yesterday) and save that bf109 for either the North Africa group build or for the staffel GB idea later we've been kicking around.

Nice Tom, very nice indeed!!
But, I expected nothing less!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Photo cube huh?
I just use a piece of flat card, white or blue, and matte in tone to cut out reflections.
Hopefully by Tuesday night I'll have pics of my 109 finished.

so I got the bottom color sprayed on my do-17. This has led me to believe that the 155 atomizes spray better than an aztek. Got a really smooth spray.
