Tweets, looks like you're taken care of on the seatbelts, but masking tape and small wire does an ok job... not as detailed as PE but it still looks decent!

Jules, try getting even more light in on the subject next time... it really helped my shots... and don't use the zoom... move the camera closer and farther away instead of the zoom...

I have got nothing done tonight... I was several hours late home from work today... there was a death at the district, and they wanted to do a powerpoint presentation for the funeral, but had no pics, no content etc... and wanted to put it to a 4 minute and 53 second song, but squeeze it down to 3 minutes without chopping the song (bosses!!!)

Anyway got involved with that and the internet and email went down in the middle of it and had to try to send it the old fashion way on CD... long story... but I am too tired to model, I might hurt the model if I do... all I have till I can do the initial painting is gluing the cockpit in, glue the wings on and I am ready to paint! of course then comes all the other exterior stuff...

Tweety the kit is the Revell B-2 1/48, i was a bit iffy as to whether i should by it or the Hasegawa kit but after opening the box i was pleasantly supprised......
Revell Germany are making some nice kits now, apart from the PE the only other thing i'm adding is a new flexible MG for the rear gunner, the kit one is pretty sad so i'm replacing it with the Verlinden one which comes with spare ammo mags so i can fill the pit up with them tooThumbs Up [tup]

Mate, I think it is.
I've had it since I got back into modelling, so not totally sure of the brand, but it is a beautiful knife to use, and the handle is perfect.
I've never slipped and cut myself with that one, and I'd love to get another if I can remember where I got it from.
My other knives have all metal handles, and have butchered my fingers down to stubs!

As for the seat belts, thanks a heap mate.
Really appreciated.Smile [:)]

Through the blur, that pit looks pretty detailed even without the PE.
Which kit is it Jules?

A little history: The Tuskegee airmen were named after the college/airfield they trained at during WWII in Tuskegee, Alabama. They were the first all black fighter group to come into existence.
Where 'other' FG's would break off a certain many miles from the target, the 332 FG would follow the bombers all the way in, all the way out. And where others would break and pursue targets, the Tuskegee airmen were extremely disciplined and never strayed from the bombers, some of the main reasons they never lost one to enemy AC...
They existed in part to the push of Eleanor Wilson, the wife of the US president at the time.... she was a strong advocate of rights and equality.. and played a big role during the last term of her husband in pushing these. She had a personal interest in seeing this program succeed.
The bomber pilots soon began requesting them above all other groups as they knew they would look out for them... never leave.
The Germans began to fear them as well.... "Red Tail Devils" or something like that they were called... at times some of the fighters would turn back when they saw the 332nd red tails protecting the group.
They also were one of the first groups to encounter the Me-262 and probably one of the first to shoot one down.

some more info on the Tuskeegee Airmen:

not just the first black fighter group, but the first black folks admitted 2 the Army Air Corps period, IIRC...

they were under strict orders from their commanding officer Col. Benjamin O. Davis, Jr. not 2 leave the bombers 2 engage in 'hot pursuit' of enemy fighters; they would have been grounded otherwise !
and even so, they still managed 2 do some damage...

the president's wife in question was Eleanor ROOSEVELT... she was apparently given a ride in a trainer by 'Chief' Anderson at Tuskeegee Field. altho' she was a strong advocate of equal rights, the fact that her husband was facing a tight election race & was courting the black vote at the time the Tuskeegee program was getting underway also was a major factor. either way, they got their wings & proved their mettle...

Col. Davis' a/c was named 'By Request', probably in reference 2 the bomber crews
knowing that the TA squadrons would get them 2 the target & back again & would ask 4 them 2 b their escorts...
bombers still fell victim 2 enemy flak on occasion, but there was nothing the fighters could do about that.
altho' the Germans did call them Red Tailed Devils or Swartzervogelmenschen
(Black Birdmen), the bomber crews called them Red Tailed Angels.

please, if u r interested in this subject, check out the Tuskeegee Airmen Group Build thread....
there is no ending date set, so join us whenever u can !

Tom and Sean Nice picsThumbs Up [tup]your builds are coming along nicelyCool [8D]

Tweets The Duck egg green on the Spit is a Gunze colour and the upper colours are a Tamiya mix.......

MadmikeThat Spitfire is the Tamiya MK1 1/48, it's a great little kit to build but in hindsight i would have preferred to use aftermarket decals with smaller letters rather than those huge onesThumbs Up [tup]

Well here's a pic of some of the PE thats going in the pit of this Stuka.....
You will have to forgive the blurry image i tried for about an hour to get a good pic but i don't think this digi cam i have is capable of taking decent closeup shots....
Once the pit if finished i'll take some shots the old fashioned way with my Pentax...

this a/c is 'Bunnie', a P-51D flown by Capt. Roscoe C. Brown of 100thFS / 332nd FG.
Captain Brown scored 2 kills, one was an Me-262 he shot down during an escort
mission to the Daimler-Benz tank factory in Berlin on March 24, 1945. The 332nd
received a Distinguished Unit Citation 4 that mission.
the always spiffy Mustang looks especially good in Tuskeegee colors IMHO...

Well, going to sand off some styrene and putty now, and try not to destroy the cowling in the process.
After that Ill give the fuse a base coat, then some RLM 65, and give the camo a try.

***************edit******************
Might keep my disappointment to myself, doesn't really belong on this forumAshamed [*^_^*]
I'm not having much luck on this one so far.
Trying to get to much done before I go back to work on Monday.

Darson, do you have other pics showing the forward section of the E3?
I have a funny feeling the panel lines around the nose section aren't quite right either.

*sniff*, just a tad unhappy.

Murphy strikes again.
Of all the 109 pics I have, which is quite a few I'll tell ya, and THAT one is not one of them.
Firstly no PE, then no seat belts, now a gap which is SPOSE to be there, and yet the front of the Tamiya cowling is wrong anyways, not steep enough.
I have the early model kit.

Nup, thats it, me and the Tonka truck are going home.

Well tonight I spent most of my time masking my canopies for the 109 and hokum helo.
Not very productive, but had to get it out the way.
(I LOATHE maskingYuck [yuck])
Here is the end result

I also attached the front cowl, and noticed an ugly lump, and I had to use a piece of styrene to make up the gap, when thats dry I'll bang on some putty and sand smooth like it SHOULD be.

But thats tommorrows effort.
Once thats sorted out, I'm going to attempt the first run of the camo scheme.
This will be alot easier to do without the wings attached seeing as none of the camo runs onto the wings at all.

Just realised, with out the PE, I have no seat belts for this bird.

Tom, we have monitoring software here too, but as long as you only use the internet during lunch and coffee breaks, nobody really cares. We're actually encouraged to use the net rather than the phone as it works out way cheaper for the company!

Just need the company to pay me on Monday, then it's on the net to order the parts from Ultracast for the Hurricane! I feel a replacement, seat, bulkhead, wheel bay and flight surfaces coming on, along with a nice open cockpit to show it all off.

Had a first look at my Pavla Miles Master kit. I think I might forget building it as a Fighter, and just as the Miles Master, not quite confident enough in my scratchbuilding abilities. Did the Westland Whirlind take part in the BoB? I have a kit of that too...

The Academy bf109E kit though looks beautiful: can't wait to start, once I finish my Tamiya Spit, in BoB colours as it happens.

Thanks RIck and Paul!!

Karl, sounds like where I work.. I'm sure you've seen me complain already but they have this new monitoring software so I Dare not come here duing the day.... And this is really a warm up of sorts... surprisingly this kit is going together EXTREMELY well and FAST!!!

---Edit---

Paul, I hire the 12 yr old down the street to paint my cockpits for me... Wink [;)] haha kidding, no, the silver artists pencil makes it a LOT easier to pick up the details on those dials! that and my 2x magnifier visor Disapprove [V]

You guys are putting me to shame, I haven't even ordered the Ultracast parts for my Hurricane yet, and you lot are already building!!!!!!

Can't see any of the build pics at the moment because I'm at work (Don't tell the boss!) and they're blocked, but I'm sure they all look great.

Great pits Tom and Sean - not sure why Tom is in the "Old Guns" build ... his eyes certainly don't belie his age Wink [;)]

Rick - sorry to hear about the flu. Those decals turned up this afternoon - you're an absolute champion!!

And still no word yet from the LHS over my 1/24 Spit Sad [:(]. Oh well - more time on other builds.

Rick, thats no good mateSad [:(]
You are getting plenty of rest yeah?, those flu's can turn pretty nasty.

I kinda figured I would try and get as many progress shots as possible this time, it something I have never really done so thought I'd give it a go.

ATM the fuselage has been glued and is drying while I work on my Hokum for the Helo GB.
After the fuse is dry, I'm gonna try and do a basic outline of how the camo is on this pidgeon, I reckon I can pull it off, but it will require some creative thinking.

Hey Sean & Tom, very nice work & progress on your builds. I got sidelined with a touch of Flu & didn't do much modeling today. Should recover soon, I hope.

P.S. I am going to look up your camera and see if I can help you with close in shots... but that one looks good! What would set it off is a piece of plain printer paper behind the panel to provide a plain white surface so it MAKES you focus on the detail and brings out the detail inside the dials more!

WOW!!! I think it looks great like it is Sean! very clean and crisp looking!!! I think you got it about where it is near perfect!

---edit---

also if you bring it into your photo program and crop the pic to only include the panel and a LITTLE white around it it would make you focus on the panel as well...

Mine aren't perfect I know... it's what I get for having dreams bigger than my photographic skills... I got a Sony DSCF-828 and it is quite a handful! If I could only figure out how to use it!!! I am used to 35mm Nikons not this monster!!!

Well got a pic of the instrument panel.
This was fun to do, I dont have any magnifying glasses, and the magnifier on the lamp I use was cleaned with thinners by some fool who forgot to label the bottles on his bench
Whistling [:-^]Whistling [:-^]Whistling [:-^]Banged Head [banghead]
I used a pin, and by dipping the tip of it in a paint blob, managed to pick out the needles etc.
Had to be done, the pit looked far to boring without it.

Well haven't WE been busy! I come back and have to read through about 500 posts to catch up!

I'd happily share a modeling bench with you two... only because I know they would have you in the funny jacket with no openings and the sleeves tied behind the back, so I could build away without you messing with it! Propeller [8-]

Almost done with my cockpit, here are some shots before I get into doing more on the levers and dials and what not... the cockpit is done overall all in this spring's most exciting color, RAF Interior Green. Gauges were picked out with a very sharp artists silver pencil then futured over several times for the gloss effect. All it is waiting on is the various green bits you see that need some coloring to them on the side panels and a little (not much) more weathering.

These planes were brand new in Sept 1940, so by Oct they would be dirty and some wear and tear but nothing compared to the Spits and the Hurricanes (especially because they were more a backup unit to fill holes in the defense from what I can read)

This kit goes together better than any Tamiya kit I have built. The pic below of the assembled body is it just sitting there unglued and you can see there is no seam at the wing root... I required zero (yes none, nada, a lack of) filler on the seams... I wish there was a "little" more detail to the cockpit, especially the floor and side panels but beggars can't be choosers! I can see another build of one of these coming soon, but with PE!

Without any further adieu... my Martlet taking it's first steps:

Jules.

Is the the Tamiya Spit or the old Revellogram offering?

Looks mighty fine!!

I am going to build the old Monogram Spit mkII, but will need to do some surgery on the tailwheel as it looks a bit odd.

I just need to source some replacement decals now!

cheers

Jules, couldn't sleep either huh.

I like the look of that Spit mate, the trailing smoke from the guns, and the red tape just visible under em really set it offThumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]
That DE Green is pretty................................................... ugly!Yuck [yuck]

I have no idea how that would NOT stand out with the sky as the back groundConfused [%-)]
Does Gunze or Tamiya make DE in acrylic?, or did you have to mix it yourself.

Well, I managed to get the c/p done on the 109, minus the PE it looked pretty ordinary, so I tried my needle work and picked out the dials etc with some colour, cause the Tamiya decals supplied for the instrument panel looked nothing like the pic I have.
Just applied the wash, so will post a pic tommorrow.

Must sleep now, last time I looked at the clock it was 11pm, now it's 2.30.
Not good.Zzz [zzz]

Yeah i have 6 knives all up 4 normal hobby knives plus 1 combo scribe and knife and one i grabbed for the exclusive use of cutting BMF from canopy framing that you got me on to..........

Speaking strickly of Hurricanes and Spitfires during the Battle of Britain i think they may have used two colours for the undersides, Duck egg Blue And Duck egg green...
The Spitfire MK1 i did recently had the D E Green colour on the undersides.....
Also some SQD's painted one side of the udersides Black for recognition purposes.....
Here's apic of that spit again with the Duck egg green colour......
