well guys the bird is out of the paint shop. i know i have progressed quickly but i literally have nothing else going on right now. there are times that i enjoy building but this is moving so fast i cant really enjoy any part of it. first let me show you what i am trying to replicate.

now i didnt make a perfect copy but it is close enough for me and my feeble skills.

there is still quite a bit to do on this one but the major work is now done.

jules i dont see jg27 as an option on this one. karl i feel for you, but i know you can fix this minor setback.

Joe You sell yourself short, the 109 looks great.

Rick Next time I'll go easier on the decal sol.

I've never encountered decals that thick before.

Oh oh, thanks for the warning Karl, I just bought me some eagle stike British roundels, I was only planning on using the fuselage roundels, maybe I'll have to use the upper and under wing roundels too!

Joe - looking good!!! you're progressing faster than I did on the Martlet!!!

Jay - Can't wait to see what it looks like, I used eaglestrike decals on my Martlet and they were great! Just dont micro-sol them too much, mine actually wore down at the rivet detail... it gave a good result in the end but any more would have been catastrophe!

Karl - tough luck on the paint! I always use MicroSol and MicroSet and haven't had that problem... I know it has to hurt... it was looking so good too!

Just about done with my Spitfire. Just the final stages now like adding antenna's and a little bit of touch up. I'll probably finish today. So, depending on when I get some pics taken, I'll post some in the next day or so.

Joe[/] Looking good.Thumbs Up [tup] Looks like you did a good job on the camo.

[b]Karl
Good luck repairing the damage. It's a shame that happened, your hurricane was looking good.

Here's the finished pics of my Spitfire. Just in case you've forgotten, it is the Tamiys 1/48 Mk.1 kit with an eduard PE set added. The decals are Aeromaster ones kindly donated by Darren (thanks mate Thumbs Up [tup]). It is painted with Gunze acrylics and I did use some of the kit decals (the wing roundels and stencils). Weathering was done with pastels and acrylic washes. Anyway, enough talking, here's the pics.

Hope you like it, and thanks for making this a fun GB (especially kremps)....

Bring on North Africa.....

Well work on the Stuka still hasn't recommenced, i'm finding it hard to get the motivation to contine with it so i've started the 109E3 flown by "Molders" this evening and have prepared the interior for it's coat of RLM02........

Daniel That is a sweet looking Spitfire.

Are the flaps from the PE set?

TomI've never had a problem with Mr Mark decal softener before. I think it was just a case of applying too much.

Jay The Hasa decals would probably have been fine on the fuselage, but I just could not get the top wing roundals to conform over the square access plates forward of the ailerons. They just sat over them like tents.Banged Head [banghead].

I'm now off to repair the damage.....

Daniel..... great looking bird!!! spectacular weathering on it...

Karl... yeah I love using the decal set solution but sometimes it has unexpected results... on my Martlet it made the wing roundels sit down nice and easy.. on the fuselage it almost ate right through them. and they were off the same sheet of decals!!! might have been a case of too much on there as well...

Thanks Jules, Tweets, Karl and Tom;

Karl Yeah, the flaps were part of the PE set. They were a bit of a bugger to put together because each of the ribs was a seperate little piece. Probably not too bad, but seeing as though each one was about the size of a bees dick, it was quite a challenge.

Thanks again fellas.Thumbs Up [tup]

Joe, nice looking job on the camo, at this rate you should be finished by dinner time tonight Big Smile [:D]

Karl, that's a crying shame it really is Disapprove [V]. I hope you are able to repair the damage and get that paint job looking the way it was.

Pingy, no problems with the decals I'm glad they worked out so well for you, mine didn't at all (my fault not the decals). The Spitfire looks superb you've really done a great job, Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup] thanks for being part of the build.

Cheers

Daniel, excellent job on the Spit. Very nice. Wish we could sit your Spit & my Hurricane side by side. Would make a pretty cool display.

Tom It pays to remember that decal sol is just a weak acid...........

........I just remebered too late!

Daniel The flaps look great. I admire anyone who has sufficent patience to assemble PE flaps.I'm just too clumsy for such delicacies. maybe that's why I like resin so much?

Darren In between my last post and this one the paint work has been restored, including both light and dark post shading. I'll let it harden off overnight and then give it a once over, just to check that it matches what is already there.

Then it'll be Future at some point next week, followed by decals whenever they turn up.

Rick That would look rather cool. I'll see what I can do with photoshop, if I can work out how to use it.

Joe: The camo looks great. Thumbs Up [tup] Can't wait to see it finished.

Daniel: Awesome looking Spit. If you need help with the photo shop let me know. I spend a lot of time with it at work. I'd love to see those two birds together too.

Karl: I just had a similar thing happen to me with a pair of Me 163's I've been working on. fortunately it wan't nearly as bad as yours but the micro sol started to react to the future. I guess I didn't let the future cure long enough and then put on too much micro sol. I just let it cure for another day and then top coated with another layer of future and it covered up the problem (wheww!!!!). I look forward to seeing your finished model.

Micro Sol ia an alcohol based solvent & can react with Future. You want to keep the solvent only on the decal & not slopped on the paint. In my experience, the Future will turn cloudy with a whiteish cast. Let it recure & spray another top coat of Future & 99% of the blemish goes away. But I've never seen it eaten away like Karls.

Thanks Dave;

If you want to have a go at it in photoshop, go ahead. I've got no idea what I'm doing with with it just yet. I'm still learning what all the different functions do.

hi guys,

i've been keeping up with evrything but have been too ashamed to post as i i only started my Defiant a week ago!![:0]

the kit is a real b*tch if you are used to tamiya shake'n'bake etc... lots of sanding (and swearing!)...

i have been very impressed by all the work i've seen here this past couple of months; i only hope i have something to contribute soon!

one question about the defiant: along the spine of the fuselage behind the turret, there is what looks like a piece which is lowered to allow a full traverse of the turret.
am i right here? was this lowered during combat?
if so, does anyone have any pics of it in this position, as i haven't been able to find any.

kind regards,

Nicholas

Nicholas, You are correct. That panel could be dropped to allow traverse of the Turret guns.

Big Smile [:D] Ok everyone. Some really sharp looking a/c have come of this. I'm just now getting settled in the casa and not all my "nice to have" modelling tools have reached me yet. I managed to get the Bf-109 pretty much done, sans the tail insignia. Those 1/144 scale swasticas are a devil to find. The Spit's Future coat over the decals is curing and I'm gonna make an attempt at doing a bit of weathering. As far as the pilot for the Spit, I wish I had a smaller brush!Tongue [:P] I did try & "make" some Polish "squares"(?) for it but in this was, I fear, a lost cause because one can barely see them. Anyway, here goes:

Sorry that it's a bit blurry!

The antenna turned out perfect, thanks to my fianceTongue [:P]

The major Spit parts.

The pilot & instrument panel.

If anyone has any idea where I might be able to find some small swasticas please let me know! Hopefully the Hurricane & Stuka will be done by the end of this week. Happy Modelling! - Calvin

Hope that's better! Cool [8D]

Jules Seems we're working on the same kit at the mo. That's if you're working on the Tamiya kit. Sounds like you're at about the same stage as me too. Interested in seeing how yours goes together. Have fun.....
