My GB record hasn't been good, either. I figure if I take the responsibilty of starting one, I'll stay consistent just to keep posting to the forum. I've got the work space set up and the camera set to go to document the progress. I've lot's of Mavis images and articles of other modelers buidls of the kit. Plus, I plan to have two other builds completed before I start this one.

It an absolutely amazing aircraft. Howard Hughes had the Hercules painted "silver." After his passing the plane was moved form the hanger to be displayed at Long Beach, CA they had it painted white. When the Evergreen Museum restored the aircraft they painted it silver again. When you stand next to the aircraft at the museum it looks more like a medium gray. So if the museum has used the correct color your going have to be careful with how metallic you want your finish to be. It just doesn't have a "metallic" look to it.

I amaze myself sometimes, I've been to the Museum 3-4 times since September and I don't have a single picture to share, I will try to get back over and take a few before the build start. Road trip anyone? Hope this helps.

Anyone seen the movie "The Aviator" yet? Funny scene, when the "Goose" is under construction there are all these welding sparks flying, pretty good for a plane made of wood.

I have (somewhere) some pics I took of the plane when it was in Long Beach. My recollection is that it was white (or off-white) as stated above. I'll see if I can track them down and post them for what they're worth.

I'll probably go with the flat coat over flat aluminum, then. It ends up being a nice grayish-silvery-gray color.
I haven't seen "The Aviator" yet, but am looking forward to it. Actually, knowing that I was going to see it and knowing that I would probably get the bug to build the Goose after seeing it, I picked up the kit when I found it the other day.

I was looking at the props last night to see how much repair work was required , after 1/2 hour I had them repaired so now the props aren't a problem anymore .
I also picked up a vac foam canopy set for the pby for a couple of bucks and the book from squadron pby catalina in action , a huge amount of info in it .

Anyone planning on modeling any water for their water foul? Once I get the kit completed, Id' like to mount it on a base of a modeled ocean surace with the plane just above it as if it had just lifted off or was about to land.

Water is a little outside my modeling skills at this time.

I’m going to park my Hercules in the museum with a DC-3 parked under one of the wing to help show the size of the plane. I thought about parking it sideways on a scale football field. It would have each of its wing tips sticking thru the goalposts at opposite ends of the field. That just seems too un-natural of a setting.

The football field settinfg maybe be unnatural but it would make a dramatic statement about the aircraft. Or maybe next to a 747 in the same scale.

The football field idea sounds good, too. It would certainly be very impressive!

I'd love to build my PBM in 1/48th but the only one they have is a bit out of my price range...some day but not right now on a teachers salary with a wedding to pay for in a year and a house after that. This is actually my first plane not in 1/48th. Looking at the kit and instructions it will not be fun, I've never seen plastic this thick!

And here I am, gonna build a modified Felixstowe with one extra gun position behind the upper wing (see text/pix of Nr 4543 in the Windsock datafile), just to get the upper hand ....

I was contemplating water but I think I am talking myself out of it. I had thought of buidling a seaplane ramp and placing the plane on it's dolly nearby.
