i 4 one have been checking out this thread as new
developments occur, so don't think that u r working
in a vacuum, guys !
since there's no finish date in the 1st post, does that
mean u r still accepting new builders ?
i have the tamiya corolla WRC kit (catalonian ver.) in 1/24
& a heller peugeot 205 (T16?) in 1/43 i would do if the end
of the build is coming up soon...
otherwise, i'll just watch as the cars fly by ! Big Smile [:D]

Hey, if there's life out here again, here's the pic from the dirtied Focus. Will put up a clean ones first as a reminder...

and

went to...

Fully aware of some silly mistakes, but it was my first attempt a muddying a car. So inside of the rims and wheel arches did not get the proper treatment, plus I forgot Banged Head [banghead] to mask off the wiper blade tracks. Will do better next time!

And Frostygirl
The originator of the GB seems to have fallen by the wayside. I think originally it was to be over the wrc season which finishes in a week or 2. But why not keep it going? If people are interested then keep it rolling on. I have a couple of others on my bench on the go as well but will concentrate on the F1 GB for the next couple of months.

Nice job. If you hadn't mentioned it I wouldn't have immediately picked up the windscreen and inside wheel rims! Many was the time I had a windscreen looking like that as we fumbled to turn on the wipers before driving off the road!

Only need to decal the Stratos now and do a bit of touch up. Hopefully this weekend will see it all finished.

I'll keep you company frostygirl and slowly do my 1949 Monte Carlo winner - Hotchkiss.

Howver here are some photos of the Stratos. As usual I found a great picture of the car in action just after I had finished! Now most pictures of a Stratos show the head lights up, the 2 photos I have of the car in the 1974 San Remo show them down so it is correct. However the rear tyres are too wide. It appears from the 2 photos that the rear wheels were the same width as the fronts however I had to run with what is in the Hasegawa kit. The other error is there should be no diver's side wing mirror. The front lights under the bonnet edge should both be rectangular as well but the kit didn't provide 2 sets of rectangular and my spares box didn't have any either.

Shows the front lights that both should be rectangular

Beside the 1/12th Stratos by the company whose name escapes me. I built that kit about 20 yers ago and I still think its one of the best 1/12th kits I've built - for enjoyment at least

Now I'd like to do the 1973 Tour de France version which has a squared off nose, rudimentary rear wing and basic roof mounted air deflector.

Very nicely done, Mark! Very impressive...

If you guys are getting going again, I'm busy (just started) with a 04 Subaru as well! So I'm in... The F1-WRC GB'ers reunited! Wink [;)]

And why not! Smile [:)]

I hear that Haseqawa are releasing a Safari 240z in 1/24th. I built their 1600 SSS which was a great kit so a 240z would go well with it. Hopefully some aftermarket stuff will follow to allow all the 240z Safari winners to be built. (Must finish my Tamiya 1/12th Safari 240Z though!)

Just to report some progress: busy with the Subaru's rear suspension. What was a bit funny for me is slight size mismatches between the Tamiya PE front brakes and their own platic parts! Very slight though and the problem was not replicated on the rear brakes as well.

well, just like w/ the F1 project, i'm letting this one (tamiya corolla wrc) sit

in the box while the rattlecan paintjob cures, i sprayed semigloss black

on the suspension parts &  white primer on bodywork & chassis...

auggh, i really want 2 work on one of these things but i know they

really need 2 sit & be left alone... time 2 go back & finish  something else,

maybe, or do that little pug 205 while i'm waiting ...

Hey nicholma, nice work. I've got this kit too, as well as all the other Lancia's they've done. I decalled mine up - in hindsight I should've done the paint, as the decals didn't play nicely at the back where they come off the mudguard flare. What colour red did you use? Unless the decals are the wrong shade, it appears the Marlboro red back then was on the orangey side. My Klein books seem to confirm that to a certain extent.

The more I look at the finished car, the more I like these Stratos kits. They're a pain to get the chassis inside, but they do come up nicely. Their 037 gets the chocolates too. I must dash. I'm salivating that much, I think I'll make a start on Markku's red/black Pirelli car he won the 78 San Remo with.

Did I see somewhere on this thread, Tamiya are going to do the 307? That'd be nice, but geez enough of the pugs already. How about a decent Xsara, or even a Skoda. Laugh [(-D] McCrash getting that Fabia up to 2nd last week before his retirement has to be good for their profile.

Cheers

Shaun

BTW nice work on the 1/12 Safari version. Bet that was a dream to work on

Shaun, yes. Tamiya is doing the 307, to be released in December. Along with the F40! Guess which one I'll be going for... Also had an overdose of the Peugeot's! Still a 2003 206 in the cupboard as well, with Renaisance detail kit. Going to ba a bit more ambitious project somewhere down the line...

Subaru coming on nicely. Just had a complete mishap... Completely forgot (though it was dome allready!) about the floorboard of the car. Now that the suspension is complete, I had to mask off and do the interior. Still not had enoght guts to open the masking. Just hope I did not leak through on the completed underside of the body!

Tks Shaun. Did you use much decal softener etc on them? I have found that plenty of softener (and I mean plenty), heat (hair drier) and a little persuasion with paint brush (used exclusively on decals) always works. I used the ordinary Tamiya spray can red (racing red or Italian red?? my paints are outside in the shed and its too cold and dark to go looking!). The red on the decal sheet is definately the same shade and doesn't really have any orange in it. I've used this red for all the Marlboro cars I've done from that era so at least they all look the same! I see that Studio 27 have a sheet that covers all the works cars from 1974 so I should get it to do the TdF car which had quite different aero shape. That sheet requires you to mask and paint all the Marlboro stripes.

Yeah, I used decal softener - LOTS. I had to stop, coz I could see the decal starting to get a bit squishy. I didn't mention it before, but the other thing I noticed was that the decals don't meet up - so should've painted it.Banged Head [banghead] Maybe a lazy day project to strip the decals off & spray. I tried the hair dryer once on Possum's 2000 NZ Havoline car, & the decals blistered up. Thank god GPM could get a hold of another set for me Whistling [:-^], so that will be a priority to get that finished. A Sube in a different colour! My gf will be shocked.

Awesome colourscheme! Did a quick search and saw it at MediaMix, sold out, though... "Unfortunately" I saw a Rennaisance Havoline decal set for a pug (Portugal 2001). Absolutely stunning - black (as it should be Cool [8D] ) with the gold basically over the wheels. Looks extremely racey - even standing still!

Yeah, that's a nice looking car. Papadimitriou's car I think. Anyway, doesn't matter. Any car in black, when done well, looks stunning. From memory, there's also a decal set floating around for a black Havoline Subie - rallied in the European championship. Can't remember the driver though.

well, i have actually begun the detail painting on the tamiya corolla wrc,
this kit looks like it mite b a good candidate 4 a straight OOB build,
the detail is really good & i'll bet everything is going 2 fit together w/o
problems.... so far, the hardest thing has been keeping track of all the
different colors called out on the instruction sheet, boy there r a lot of them !
i have managed 2 get everything rite so far except 4 the drive axles, which
i painted gunmetal instead of metallic grey. no big, since all parts r still on the
sprues... should have some pix later this week !

Hey frosty. Yes that Tammy Corolla is a nice kit. Doesn't fall together as well as the Subie, but a beauty nevertheless. They definitely look the biz viewed front on (in tarmac trim) with that flared front rip spoiler. I've got the decals to do Rossi's 2 Rallye Monza Corollas. Can't wait to get a start on those - should look cool, especially the yellow one. Wish I could post some pix for you guys, but I don't have a scannerSad [:(]

Naah Shaun, zero perspiration... The guys can have a look at the decals over at MediaMix Hobby (http://www.mediamixhobby.com.sg/catalog/index.php). I had a look at those over there a while ago, very nice!

A Tamiya Corolla is on my "I-still-want-one-of-those" list. Despite the "oldness" of the kit, I've allways liked them!

Strictly speaking, I'm a Subie man, but those dreaded Corollas are starting to take over. I had some minor niggles with my first oob build for King Carlos' Catalunya car, but must've liked it so much, I decided to build just about everyone elses: Markko x2, Rossi x2, Brundle, Loix x2 (though one of those might be Radstrom), Bates x2, + a couple of others. Phew!

Sorry for the rant

Talk about the short wheelbase version! As you say, very cute! Smile [:)]

Some very nice painting going on there, Frosty...

I am now about to start on my Subaru's seatbelts. Yeah, the detail set as Tamiya has, has that included. Now I must do it that way, or at least give it a try... So if in the end you see decal seatbelts... Censored [censored] *shouts of frustration* Blush [:I]

SeaBee:
lol, & thanx !
if u have 2 end up using the decal seatbelts, try using them w/ the paper backing 4 a bit
of extra thickness, it looked good on another build on the forum.
otherwise u can always replace the p/e ones, eduard makes some very
nice ones... annealing the metal (heating it & then letting it cool down naturally) will make the
p/e easier 2 bend over the seat contours.

progress update:
the underside of the chassis, it's a bit bright w/ all the white & metallic shades, so...
underside of the chassis, darker pic
left side of chassis pan, mica red wheel center up front chipped already, Oops [oops]
moving rite along here....

have a good weekend, folks !

MartianGundamModeler:

since the initial thread-poster has gone awol & this is round 2 of this GB,

i get the impression that no-one will mind if u post a non-WRC rally car.

besides, the initial post says Rally Cars, doesn't specify WRC...

so, why not join in the fun ?

Thanks Frostygirl! I recall seeing you in the military forums. Haven't built any tanks lately. I will be building a baja rally version of the AMT Dodge Dart and I am also doing a Baja 64 mustang. I notice this group bould dates bak to 2003! What's the deal there?

MartianGundamModeler:
yep, this is a really old thread that was resurrected when one of the original members
posted pix of his build that he had weathered... & then a few people like myself just
decided 2 keep it going w/ some new builders rather than start a new thread w/ the same
subject.

progress update:
here r the latest pix of the corolla wrc
the interior, looks like something out of a Mad Max movie w/o the body
closeup
front view
rear view
this am i sprayed a wet coat of model master 'classic white' paint on the body,
it looked pretty smooth & shiny & i'm hoping that the surface will b
free of dust when i check it later this evening (it's under a box rite now
2 protect the wet paint), even if it stays clean, it will b a couple of days
b4 i can apply decals, gloss enamel takes awhile 2 dry out & cure.

Happy New Year, folks !
