where did you get you dragon Little Bird, Jay? I tried to order one a little while back and the company (Best1Hobbies) said that kit was discontinued and they were out. *sniff-sniff*

sure thing geoff.

Hey btw, is this build still going to go forward?

I really got tired of waiting and had to go ahead and finish up my 5-ton. I still have a couple of other cargo trucks to build though.

I want in on this build, but before I do, can anyone point me in the right direction (mfr. name, website, etc.) for some AM wheels for my Italeri Bigfoot?

Modeldawg, try www.missionmodels.com . They have a resin set there for the-A2 versions. I'll probably get a set of the HEMMT early ones for the next M-978 that I build. I got the chassis & major sub-assemblies done on mine, BTW ;)

I believe Eduard makes a set for it dawg. At least vodnik references one on his build of the Italeri 5-ton. Wish I had a set myself.... Hey pick up two and send me one ! ! ! lol JK.

Wow, I'm surprised to not see more interest in this GB. I'll be starting mine on time. I'm still undecided, but I might go either with the Italeri HEMTT or Maultier, either in 1/35 of course.

I went back through the thread and didn't see one way or another, but are guntruck conversions allowed? I've got the parts of a 5-ton and a pair of mini-guns itching to be mated up as my idea of a convoy escort/guntruck. If it's okay, then I'll be joining up with that one.

Well, the chasis is that of a truck, so I do believe that this one will probably be allowed.

Alright, count me in, this should give me the added push to get that darn guntruck done and on a base of some sort. I just put in new shelves in the office, and now I need to fill them. This, along with the A-10 GB should get me started in the new year!

I haven't even decided what I want to build yet. I think I'll go home tonight and weight my options.

Dug out the guntruck, tore the armored "fighting compartment" off the bed, didn't like the look, so I have to rethink that. The miniguns are coming together nicely and I've got a Mk19 for rear security. I'll get some pics posted in the next couple of days as long as the digi camera doesn't give up on me.

I think I'm going with the Ural. Don't think I'm going to include the towed artillery piece. Need that for a later project. Probably start sometime after the weekend.

Here's my convoy escort/guntruck so far. I've been giving this one a lot more thought than actual work, but its coming along nicely.

Here's what is done so far:

And here's what it kind of looks like mocked-up:

Good start. Calvin, how's the fit of the kit going so far?
I started my Ural last night. I got around to finishing the cab and the engine. I left it box-stock, as it will be a closed model, so not too much detail will be visible on the inside. I've also heard that the engine will not fit properly, so we'll see how it goes in a couple of days when I finish the frame.

Think I may join in on this. Have a Jimmy I want to do as a Red Ball Express truck to present at work for Black History Month.
Now, just need a couple of crewmen and a load (wanted to do jerry cans but the only set I have found is OOP, Yanks. #9728 cargo load #2).

Got a little more done on my 5-ton/guntruck, mostly on the armored gun platform. Here's the new photos:

Hope to get some paint on it soon, and add some details (radios, seats maybe?) in the next few days.

Wow, excellent progress so far LemonJello.

I spent this past weekend and yesterday (almost 30 hours total) struggling with my Ural. As far as the frame and cab go, nothing fits well. I had to glue in all frame pieces, used a jig to alligh, and it still didn't line up properly. At least I managed to get all wheels to touch the ground evenly. I had to remove some frame cross-members, as I want the engine to fit, and if all pieces are included, it clearly does not. The cab mounting parts were sanded to fit, and the engine oil-pan had to be sanded down part-way to be able to sit squarely on the frame. I decided that I want it covered by canvas, so (not shown in pic) I cut some strips from styrene sheet and glued them onto the modified sides of the rear to be able to drill holes to accept canvas support beams. I also decided to build the BS-100 gun as a companion piece. THe gun is finished, but the pic only shows the barell in it's craddle. Sometime this week I'll be basecoating everything in Model Master Acryl dark green.
Here are the major subassemblies, minus wheels, doors, and few other parts, ready for paint:

Hmm, not much activity here. Anyways, I've assembled everything, and basecoated it. The pics are quick ones not showing much, but whatever:
