Very nice DaveThumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]!!

Well, I managed to get the canopy onto the Bell the other night, and have just sprayed her after a little touch up.

Had to make the canopy mounting braces out of putty to keep it in scale.
Also added a couple of extra panels that I hadn't noticed existed on previous pics I looked at.

After the paint has dried, I'll Future it, and mount the engine ass'y and legs, and finish basic ass'y.
Then onto the fuel tanks, and hopefully some decals, just have to make a couple of phone calls interstate to locate some Roo emblems.

June 30 is rolling in faster than I thoughtShock [:O]

Time to bump this topic up a bit I think.

Here's a few more photos of the Mustang. All there is left is to do is paint and attach the 5" HVAR and do up the propeller and it's as good as finished. I'm not even sure if I will do the panel wash I normaly do as the panels stand out well as it is. Other than that there is only minimal weathering to be don.

Sean I agree about the canopies on the majority of Tamiya kits, but the later ones seem to work well eg the Corsairs.

Hmmmm.
I've never had a Tamiya kit where the windscreen or canopy sat as nice as your Dave.

Sean, would you beleive that it is just how well made the kit is that it just goes together like that. A bit of white glue and it just went into place.

Carl , I wish it was my first knee op, it's the 4th op on my left knee and in the near future I will be having an op on my right knee. Sad [:(]

I'm getting somewhere on the models tho so it's good in the long run. Here are some photos of a RAAF P-51 that i'm doing whilst waiting for the canopy for the Mosquito. Still heaps of work to be done but it's getting there.

Sensational Sean. Love the panel wiring & you've got that metal weathering down nicely.

I'm still stuck waiting on the missing instrument panel decals so that I can close up the body & get on with it.

Ouch! It was actually me who had the shoulder op & I've had both knees done as well. If this is your first time with one of those my biggest tip is to do all of the exercises - makes a huge difference to recovery.

Yeah and you gotta do the same little dance that "John Cleese" did too, but try to remember not to let Kremps see you, You know how she gets when there is a whole raw fish around her, "Sushi Time"

Thats not good DaveBlack Eye [B)]Sad [:(]
Hope it's just a simple op for your knee.

Was it you who just had a shoulder op as well???

Ok, got the canopy attached to the Bell, and it took some doing!!!!!
A WHOLE lot of CA was needed, not only to hold her in position, but also to fill some small but annoying gaps.
Now I have to use the .005 styrene to fabricate the braces that surround the top and bottom of the canopy frame, then some masking, and more assy of parts before the final colour coat.
Slow and tedious project, but seems to coming along wellSmile [:)]
And some pics of some of whats been done so far..............

Side view of the cockpit with scratchbuilt wiring and cooling tank (made from .005 styrene)

Scratchbuilt centre console, before.

after. This took some doing I'll tell ya!!

Engine, with scratchbuilt piping for exhaust, ignition and fluid lines

More piping and ignition leads and odds and ends.

As far as scratchbuilding goes, I've pretty much hit my skill limit, and the only other thing left to scratch up is the fuel tanks, and a few more fluid lines.
Any more than that, and I KNOW I'll stuff it up.
I know when to stop nowadaysSmile [:)]

I go into hospital tommorrow for a knee operation so I should get a few days off after it. So I reckon I should manage to get some quality model time happening. Time to respray the Mosquito and the Battle and the Skyhawk and put the markings on the Mustang.

Well I am finally over the Krempitis.... but have to wait till daylight to get to work as I need to fire up the compressor. Wife has another karate belt test today but no modelling because she expects me to be there.. Disapprove [V] This is her last belt before black belt and somehow she things that is more important than my modeling. Whistling [:-^]

Carl - the thinner from Vallejo is just for spraying, not for cleanup. It comes in a bottle with a built in dropper. I prefer Color of eagles (MAde by Vallejo) to the Vallejo line. The colors are named standard FS type names (RLM 02, Middlestone etc...) for one thing... the only color of the line I haven't liked so far has been sandgelb (RLM 79) .. it was a bit too bright for my tastes so I bought the Model Air bottle instead..

and a good bump it was too!! Smile [:)]

Well, things are moving well on the Boomer front.

Wheels, undercarriage and exhaust done, undercarriage bay painted. Just need to mask off the prop tips and the blades can be finished as well.

Next up, decals....Yep, and they are Esci ones as well. So first off is the Microscale Clear decal film treatment, then they may well need to be bedded down in Future.

I can see this little Aussie battler being finished next weekend, all things being equal.

With mrs madmike using the laundry (where I spray) for mundane things like washing, I have to wait to fire up the compressor...

cheers

Carl

My lovely wife Lori's T-Rex is proof it sprays beautifully, although she had issues with the paint drying in the airbrush. A drop of retarder will fix that next time. The dark green is a dead ringer for RAAF foliage green or even RAF dark green.
