Hell a lot of vacform I'm putting on this thing. It's pretty wierd as the profile (viewed from the front) is all up for grabs with this stuff given I've removed the combing & section in front of the windscreen.

Sorry guys, I blew out on the 767 too. Don't ever spray Tamiya aerosol gloss varnish over Xtracolour. It's crazes it like you wont believe. I do have another fuselage, so I'll save the wings for next time, but the fuselage is stuffed.
It's resting peacefully in the bin now.

A few pics of what I'm doing at the moment:
The IP. i dont think it was worth the fuss, although it is better than in the pic. Trouble is the insets are too deep & I doubt you'll see much without being right in front of it (ie _never_).


While waiting for the decal above I had too much time on my hands & ended up with these extra fiddles...
A Squadron canopy for the kit & I didn't realise until I got it that it incorporates a profile fix - some surgery required. I took a gulp & cut away one side, one to go.


The 3 on the left are Verlinden, the engine & (unpainted) harness on the write are the kit parts. The kit engine is fine but the harness is crude. Not sure which engine style is correct, I think the featured push-rods might be early versions.

I finally got my B-25 instrument panel (bought - no thanks to the non-existent service at Accurate Minatures) so it's on the road again. In the meantime I've finished painting & decaling the Mirage (gear & antennae etc to go). I've also made a pretty good dent on the Czech Models A-8 Shrike - nice kit.

Darren, the kit canopy comes with side bulges but no bulges on the top of the canopy where the PR16 had one. I have had only a quick look at the Paragon canopy and am unsure if it has it. I stuffed the kit canopy so it needed to be replaced anyway If the Paragon canopy doesn't have the top bulge it will have to do as I don't want to spend more time making a bulge and grafting it in.

Dave, what is the difference between the Paragon canopy you've bought and the one that comes with the kit?

Bad news is I can't get the Spitfire done...good news is the Boeing 767-338 is well on track. Here is the photo, and yes, the wings do fit well. A few decals on the tail and I'm almost done.

I was wondering what was happening as well. Oh well, while i'm waiting for the canopy I have started on a Spitfire MkVc conversion as well as a Spitfire MkXIVe to keep me occupied.

I've got 'RAAF Colours, Markings & Camouflage of 1942 to 1948' (Ian Baker's 'Those Eagles Series) but there's bugger all about P-40's other than what you can infer about RAAF directives for certain regions in certain periods. 'Understanding RAAF Aircraft Colours' also neglects the P-40 but it's more about paint. There's a fair bit about 'E's & Mk IIs but after that it dries up.Not sure if these are all Oz pilots:

Carl - Pretty sure the N was a Mk.IV in RAAF lingo.

Tony - I actually have that book and was thinking of doing either the one you mentioned or the one pictured on page 137. There's nothing on the net about anything like this. I'm gonna see if I can get my hands on a copy of "RAAF camouflage & markings 1939-'45 volume 2" and see if there's anything in there.

There's a photo of a natural metal P-40N-40 on p170 of The Spitfire, Hurricane and Kittyhawk in Australian Service. Its A29-1193, there doesn't seem to be any squadron codes. Let me know if you want it. It surprised me too that I couldn't find more than this.

i've forgotten what the 'N' was in RAAF lingo, was this the 'III'?

Need some help fellas. I've got two P-40N kits on the bench at the moment. The Hasegawa one I've mentioned earlier, and a Mauve kit. I'm doing the Hase kit in OD over grey with White tail and want to do the other one in a different scheme. Any ideas for another scheme that RAAF P-40N's flew in? I was thinking an all over foliage green one, but can't find much references on them. Could also go with one of the rare natural metal kittyhawks.

So, does anyone have any pics or profiles of P-40N's in any other scheme than OD over grey? And, one last thing. Does anyone know where I can get some RAAF WW2 roundel and fuselage code decals?

darson Know the feeling have had similar problems with decals even gone that one step further and the model has hit the bin. With the extension you have plenty of time to finish the model.

taxtp & panzer67 if you think you can finish on time go for it, just remember to post your photos when finished. Just remember that the model must carry Australian markings.

I´m working on a Tamiya´s scout car Daimler MK II, i can finish in 15 days just need to know if i can join to the group to finish at the new deathline.

Well I seem to have suffered a setback on the Buffalo tonight, well two actually. I have found out that when you don't let Future cure properly it reacts badly with Micro Set, this caused the Future under the decal to "fog" or appear faded. This is exactly the same problem I had with my BoB Spitfire only I didn't know what cause it at the time. Anyway, once I realised what cause the fogging I tried to move the decal (bad move ). Aussie decals are very thin and this only led to disaster.

So after nearly throwing the whole project in the bin (I'm not kidding) I have removed what's left of the left hand side fuselage decals and I'm going to try again later with whatever spare decals I can find . I am so bummed out over this I can't believe it.

I didn't enter this GB because I didn't htink I could get the job done in time. With a one month extension, I could really push and probably just fall short, oops, I mean make it. I've been working on a 1/48 Spitfire IX to be finished in the markins of 453 Sqn, FU-N, with full invasion stripes. This continues a 453 theme I've had going for a while and is the 3rd last Spitfire I need to finish the job off. I'm using the Ocidental (accidental ?) kit, with a Ron's Resin resin nose to correct the shape. Construction has basically been a pig and I'm still trying to get it right. Some focus to finish it in a month would really help.
I've also got a 1/200 Qantas 767-338 that is in the decalling phase, as athe wrap around red tail has given me all sorts of problems. After failing to decal it 3 times (kin of expensive really), I've masked and sprayed the wrap around Qantas red. Have you ever mased a model that already has decals on it ? Anyway, to cut a very long story very short, the decals are almost done, then I can fix the wings to the fuselage, do the engine pods, undercarriage, windscreen, and park it at Tullamarine Airport.
Can I join, it might help me get these ones done.

Sounds good Daniel, I'll be looking forward to seeing Black magic all finished, speaking of P-40's i recieved my decals for Waddy's machine the other day so mine is ready to go I'll scan the colour guide to show you fellas soon but it's very similar to black magic.....

Hey....I can enter my P-40 for this GB after all. I'm at the stage of filling and sanding the join lines left by all the inserts on the Hasegawa kit. It's a very nice kit, but they are trying to squeeze too many variants into one set of molds for my liking. I'll be doing it as "Black magic" from 78sqn RAAF.
