Anyone care to take a stab at making a badge out of the MH68 below? Is it possible to make it a bit smaller, too? Thanks!

Awesome Rocky!

I'm frustrated as anything, since my Apaches are back in Texas and I can't build anything on this perfect modeling day! But, I am working hard on the Apaches book right now and should have it done by 1 January, so I can concentrate on the build after that.

Rocky,

When I get back to Texas on the 10th, I'll get the two rolls of film I have waiting, developed. I've got at least 3 shots of an MH-68 that was patrolling NY Harbor last fall. I happened to be on the USS Intrepid at the time, photographing their AH-1J, but I managed to snap a few shots of the Stingray that happened to be circling the museum. I'll post em as soon as I get back.

Cobra: Very awesome! After I get this one done, I have my next two projects planned. (Unless I change my mind.Approve [^]) I was able to pick up a couple of resin conversion kits for USCG Jayhawk and HH-3 copters from a guy "Downunder" off the 'Bay. I probably overpaid, but, they come with the parts, decals and colorguides/layout. I like doing research, but, sometimes, nice to have everything in one bag.

Your trip to the Intrepid sounds like fun. I'd like to go there and go back to the Naval Air Museum and USAF Museums. Very cool places.

I look fwd to your book. I'm snooping around now for a good 1/72 Apache to add my collection of kits to build. That way, I'll be ready for the next Apache GB! Big Smile [:D]

D'OH!!!! I was just there right before Halloween! I didn't make it out to the Intrepid, but I could see the Concord from the Empire State Building. Man, had I known you were there, I'd have dropped you a line to go grab some beers!

Oh yeah, next time you're in Midtown, keep an eye on the Fire Engines. One of the "Pride of Midtown" trucks has a big VFA-115 sticker on the side.

Ok, now that I've seen the 1-151 Apaches I'm DYING to start this build! Check out the helo forum for pics of one of the grey apaches!

I believe its in a light/dark ghost gray scheme, but I'm gonna have to double check the FS numbers.

Alrighty, Jon's probably going to swear at me Censored [censored] Whistling [:-^] , but...
The fair and lovely Mrs. Moore got me a 1/35th Academy UH-1C Huey Heavy Hog for Christmas so, that is what I'm going to build for the GB.

So I need my entry changed to an Academy 1/35th UH-1C Huey gunship, built OOB.

Cheers,

Hey all-
Since I’m taking this week off from work, I have some time to get started on this GB, even though it’s a little early. I’m building a 1/48 HH-60H from an Italieri SH-60B and a Cobra Company conversion set. First of all, I have never bought a Cobra Company product before, and I’ll have to say even though it’s expensive, it’s really great. It’s cleanly molded, very detailed, and as far as I can tell, well researched.
I have mostly finished the fuselage halves. I added the two window panel in place of the sonobouy launcher/window on the left side. It fit fine, although the CC panel is just slightly more curved than the kit fuselage. The door fit perfectly. I also cut out the -60B exhaust area to add the CC HIRSS, which fits fine if you follow CC’s directions. I also added some of the detail parts to the fuselage, like the sponson extensions, laser detectors, flare launchers, etc, so I will have to handle it less once I get the interior finished and installed.
I also started on the interior, and have to say that CC’s interior parts are a huge improvement over the kit parts. In 1/48 scale, the detailed relief on the console and panel look so much better than a flat panel with a decal. I added the console, put the seats together and test fit everything, so I’m nearly ready to paint the cockpit parts. I had to trim the console and instrument panel a little to get the panel to fit under the nose. The cabin is mostly empty, but I have started adding some framing to the inside. It’s mostly made up, just to cover various holes and seams. It just needs to look OK through the right side door, which I plan to leave open. I'd like to put a gun in it, but I haven’t decided.
I’ve posted some pics at:
http://photobucket.com/albums/v485/par429/HH-60H/

Hopefully I'll be able to get more done before I go back to work. So, has anyone else done anything?

Phil

Alby... what am I gonna do with you.... LOL... don't worry about it!

Phil... very cool, looks like you're making some great headway!

I'm ready to start building.
I've basically done an overview of my kit and looked at what I want to alter for it. The TADS/PNVS turret mount has been removed and I will be photographing it bit by bit as it gets modified. I think I may end up getting some resin rocket pods from Chris to replace the kit ones. The one rocket pod I modified didn't come out all that well. Useable, but not great.
Of course, I can't start for another 2 weeks. Sad [:(]
