                        i am ready to start with mine. i got a few more things to do on the md500 asw.. gonna loose a couple of days i am off on sunday and monday so i am headed to the woods for some more vension. still cant decide on a paint shceme for the md 530 gunship, been thinking about a 3 tone gray scheme so any one else got any ideas on a paint scheme.

                        I trust that everyone had a great time over the xmas weekend.

                        Busy washing the sprues in preparation for the 1st as I type this.
                        I'm just itching to start.

                        Italeri suggest Gun Metal(buffing) for the gun on the RAH-66, is this the right colour?
                        Does Tamiya or Humbrol make an equivalent to MM's gun metal metalizer?

                        Tamiya makes Gunmetal, it's X-10 i think. and I'm just about finished with my Young Guns GB, and I've done some prep work on the Little Bird ie. washing sprues, and Future-ing the canopy, etc. happy new year everyone.

                        I'll be starting sometime mid-January as I just have to finish my StuG ( so close!) before I get going on anything else. I don't know how far I'll get by the end of April on the Apache (very busy at work) but I'm gonna have fun trying!

                        hey folks if it's not to late i'd like to jump in on this GB. When i was at my local shop the other day { i had gone to pick up a Gladiator kit for the BOB GB but it was gone) i came across the Revell 1/48 Mil-24 Hind. This same kit was the first helo i built back in the late eighties, and WOW did it come out bad (although i felt it was pretty good back then, i think, i was like 8)
                        Could i trouble someone to make a badge for me though, thanks.

                        well guys i all ready got a little head start i started my helo last night. since i had a big gremlin with my md 500 asw. i will loose a couple of days but the quick start did me good. so far everything is going real smooth on the build.the only thing i can see is the engine cowling is going to be a bear. have a good build everyone i am headed to the woods this weekend.Big Smile [:D]Big Smile [:D]

                        Sorry guys but I am going to have to drop out of the build. I have been accepted into the Texas State Trooper Academy and I'll end up there for the next 6 months and it starts in January also

                        I'ts January 1 here, and I've made a start on my KA-52!

                        Got the air intakes attached and puttied, cockpit is painted up waiting for some dry brushing, and the twin rotor ass'y has been put together.

                        This si going to be so easy it's scary, and you can't ask for an easier paint scheme, it's all FLAT BLACK!!!!!!!!!!!

                        Came to the realisation today that I only have lacquer thinners and turpentine in the house, no enamel thinners. So I will only start on the Comanche during the week.Sad [:(]

                        I'm busy searching the Techinque threads as I type this but I'm having a Future problem.
                        Been practicing with my airbrush(first time I'm using an airbrush) on older models by spraying Future onto them as a gloss coat.

                        The end result is a pebbly/patchy/mottled looked? What am I doing wrong? Am I too close, to much/little air, to much Future?

                        I bought a "cheap" airbrush that seems to be based on the Badger 350. Will get a more expensive one during the year, once I've mastered airbrushing. Using a propellant can for air.

                        Check out this site swannysmodels.com for the Future problem. I would say your either moving too fast, to far away, or have too much air pressure.
                        When I spray my Pledge (Aussie Future), I give it a nice wet coat, almost to the point where it runs. If there are any, I soak them up with a piece of paper towel. Works for me.

                        But I use it for my decal coat, otherwise I use MicroScale's Flat Clear for the final coat.

                        Well i didn't start my build today. I was busy finishing up my P-38 for the Pacific.
                        I did open the box though and take a look. She's just as i remember her. i threw together this badge but if some one wants to improve on it by all means have have at her.

                        well i have got most of the helo done. and i am ready to slap some paint on it. i been having touble coming up on a paint scheme. and it came to me last night i am going to paint it with SAC tan and SAC green. but heres the catcher the tail boom and were the rotor houseing is it will be done in the tiger meet colors of yellow and black. so far this md 530 gunship has gone together without any major fit problems. if yall dont have it in your collection i would recommend it oh yeah i dont know if this helo has been to a tiger meet or not but you never know whats going to show up at the meet only problem i do have is that thier are no decals for the helo any suggestion for the md 530 gunshipBig Smile [:D]Big Smile [:D] rob

                        Everything was going so well, fitting together just fine, till I put the fuselage halves together, and one is ALOT shorter than the otherShock [:O]Censored [censored]Banged Head [banghead]Banged Head [banghead]

                        Why this is so, I have no idea, but we are talking around 3mm differance.
                        Time to cut the tail section off, and use some sheet stock to extend.
                        Then I have scribe the panel lines back in.

                        This reminded me of why I stopped buying this manufaturers plane kitsSigh [sigh]

                        I received a set of photo-copied instructions for Academy's other UH-1C Gunship thanks to GrandadJohn, so I can now commence to building my GB entry. So far, I've already hit a snag with the vertical posts that go inside the door posts (B30/B31). The directions say to glue them to the floor, but they don't line up with the door posts when I test fitted them. Looks like it will work better if those supports are glued to the inside of the posts directly. Either way, everything will need some sort of massaging. Fun, Fun...

                        a quick update: i've finished painting the seats on the little bird, added seatbelts from masking tape and a couple overscale buckles(LOL - my first attempt at making seatbeltsDead [xx(]). anyways i also started to build subassemblies of the interior, but haven't painted them yet. this week i'm gonna try to bend the rotor blades to give them a droop. school re-opens tomorrowSad [:(] so i won't have as much time to build. i'll post some pics if i find the time...

                        Hi all

                        Tweety, thanks for the response. I emailed Swanny and he gave me some tips. Suggested I get some Isopropyl Alcohol.

                        I'm struggling to find enamel thinners. The shops near my workplace only have lacquer. Will try my local hardware store on Saturday.

                        Was hoping to try out my airbrush by painting the cockpit this week. Might use a Tamiya spraycan in the meantime for the flat black. I can't wait to get started.

                        Italeri have actually molded the seatbelts/harnesses onto the seats with buckles. If the entire Comanche cockpit is black including the seats,would the belts also be black?

                        Yeah, from what I remember of the UH-1C kits, you're better off gluing the post interiors directly to the frame and not worrying about what the instructions say.

                        Jay,

                        When you're drooping your rotors, hold them under warm (not TOO hot) water before flexing them. That'll give them enough flexibility and they'll hold their shape better. I tried to droop my Loach's blades without that and ended up snapping 3 of them without any trouble. The next time I did it, I made sure to heat them under warm water first, and it worked like a charm!

                        hey all, well the cockpit is mostly done and painted, didn't get to much else this weekend though. the camera i use doesn't take small pics well, so i couldn't get a detail shot of the cockpit so i took this instead. The cockpit is below the kit box.

                        well fellow helo builders i have hit a major snag today. while i was at work and no one else home it seems that my nieces pug puppy has helped herself to my md 530g gunship it is totally all chewed up. thier is no way i can save any of the helo body except the rotors the gunpods and the radar sensor that goes on top of the rotors. i was all most finshed with this helo and that what makes me so mad.so if its ok i will cange mine to the ah6-j little bird. and not leave it were a tiny mouth with many teeth can get to itAngry [:(!]Angry [:(!]

                        Will paint the smaller bits tonight with a paintbrush and start the detailing/drybrushing.

                        I dry fitted the fuselage and the fit is pretty good for an Italeri kit.

                        The kit includes vinyl mesh to be used for the intakes. Can I use normal liquid cement to attach the vinyl or must I use something else?

                        Osjohnm,
                        Nope, liquid cement won't bond with that mesh material. CA glue (super glue) or 5-min exopy will provide a better bond. One tip that wil help with a better bond is to roughen the area inside the intake with sanding film. That will give the glue/epoxy something to bite into.
