Pictures of my finally finished MiG-29. It is Indian Airforce. I used an Aires resin and PE set and the Eduard exterior PE detail set and the decal are from Hi-decals from poland. Enjoy the pics and tell me what you think.

Well, I applied a first coat to the MiG-23 cockpit, and made a small alteration to the ejector seat I found lying around. I'm using a fresh tin of Humbrol 27. The kit is really sharp, lovely to work with. When I checked, the kit was made in 1980, which is the mould date too, so one of the earliest ones. Almost seems a shame to use! Next coat tonight. This is going to a quick build. Pity the decals are yellowed.

The Mig-29 that the USPS trashed for me has been regated to the spares box. Luckily I did have a 2nd Hasegawa kit. I was gonna jump in w/ the P.E. Zoom set that I got but decided to try the cheap but more challenging route! LOL I do have a pretty decent reference, a Lock-On. Sorry, don't remember the number offhand. I nearly got the cockpit finished now. A Hasegawa Hornet kit donated a pilot to replace the anemic & stomach-holed one that came w/ the kit. Just have to finish painting the pilot & a bit 'o drybrushing of the cockpit. Pics tomorrow. I don't have a refuelling probe for it but it is detachable & I have seen some web pics w/o them. I don't know a lot about the Malaysian Squadrons choices for color of their flight coveralls so I picked your basic OD green. I figured they may get there stuff the same place the U.S. gets theirs- from Thailand! LOL I hope everyone is having fun! - Calvin

I don't know who originated this mold. But they need to be fed to the fire ants. Every time I pick it up and look at it, it makes me sick. Looking at it head on, the left wing is 1/4 inch lower than the right. The wing root on the left side is too thin for the wing and the one on the right is too thick. I'm going to finish it because I don't want to be beaten by four ounces of plastic.

Thought I would share this with yall to prove that I am working on my promised MiG.
This is the Hobbycraft 1/72 MiG 15. This is without a doubt the most disgusting kit I have ever built. The wings don't line up. Fit is atrocious. And the surface detail is way overstated for this scale. IF I finish this one I will never touch another Hobbycraft kit.

I'll be starting Revells 1/32 MiG 21 PFM in Croatian markings before long, so maybe I'll have better pics later.

That Cuban Mig is really good! Well done!

I found in my parts bin an ejector seat. No idea of the aircraft, but with some re-working, and licence, it will be a reasonable replacement. No detailing or PE on this Mig-23, just a quick build, and then painting in Libyan colours. As the for the Mig-15, I'm going to knock it together, not bother too much sanding/filling, and then send it to the Fatal Air Force, where all my aborted models go (a friend's 4 year old son, who loves them!); if not then it joins the experiment box, where other aborted models are kept (or large wings, sections, etc) for use in new techniques, trying out new paints, etc.

Actually, what do others do with their aborted models?

Very, very nice job on the Cuban Mig. I wasn't aware that Castro had the 29.

Hmmm, why does everybody build 12x faster than me?!!!!!! But I SHOULD be done modeling gods willing by Monday. I have to future, decal future, flat coat and then add approximately 15 plastic and 15 PE pieces in final assembly.

The early Mig-21s, (21F/Fishbed B; 21F-12&F-13/Fishbed C; 21PF/Fishbed D) all used the SK ejection seat. This seat was limited to a minimum altitude of 110 meters or 361 feet for proper operation and a maximum speed of 690 mph,(subsonic). The Mig-21PFM/Fishbed F, the Mig-21S/SM Fishbed J, the Mig-21 MF/Fishbed J, the Mig-21bis Lazur/Fishbed L and the Mig-21bis SAU/Fishbed N all used the more modern KM-1 or KM-1M seat. which was zero/zero and super sonic rated.
The Mig-21U/Mongol A trainer used the SK seat, while the Mig-21 US and UM Mongol B used the KM-1.

no Roadkill the Mig-21 doesn't use the K-36 I have no clue as to what seat it uses but the Mig-23 and the Mig-27 use the KM-1 ejection seat. and I stated earlier that Squadron sells the KM-1 made by True Details in both 1/48 and 1/72 scale.

The Mig-15 UTI in Vietnam colours has been abandoned. Simply put, the amount of filler needed is crazy, and I'd still need to rescribe all the panel lines, and add in airbrakes. Much better to build a decent kit, than to try and rescue this awful one. It's not yet in the parts bin, but probably will be soon...

I decided therefore to build this Airfix 1/72 Mig-23 kit I bought second hand from Hannants. Lovely kit, and being from 1980, very crisp moulding too. It even comes with an instrument panel with raised dials etc. Lovely! Decals are awful, but I could do something with them. Includes a Libyan version. Part built, I discovered that it's missing the seat...

Am I destined to never complete a model for this GB?!

Just keep chuggin away at it. I was similarly overwhelmed with the amount of vrute force needed to insert my resin cokpit and then even more brute force to get everything to fit properly afterwards. But I trumphed in the end. I'll post pics when I'm finished now. Yup, I'm that close...

Hannants is in England mate. They'll take a long long while to get to yer place from there.
