Welcome aboard cj95.

Basecoat is on. I used Model Master Acryl Russian Armor green, lightened with Tamiya Buff. The missle is Light Gray. I'll get some pics up this week when final assembly is completed.

My only update is that the build of USS Oregon took so bloody long (Glencoe! Freakin' Glencoe!) that I'm quite glad the group build got extended to the end of the year. I might just get it done...

I expect to start the Ticonderoga in October. Less than 200 parts...Hopefully I can get it done by the end of the year. In fact, I'm hoping I can get it done by the original 9 November deadline, and then maybe finish my Minsk carrier for the Russian GB before the year ends.

Both the F-101's have the base coats on, just need to mask off where the stripes go and the lightining bolt on the tail. After that it decal time. If the sun is out today I think I'll post some pics.

Okay, here's the pics. Now remember these birds are alittle ways off from being finished. You might notice a few loose ends and spots that need touching up. Anyways, here they are, enjoy.

Great F101's. Loved to watch the Canadian Voodoos doing their thing at the Paine Field Air Show years ago!

Constructionon my Victor III SSN is mostly complete.
(Not a whole lot of parts on a 1/700 sub)
Some sanding and putty and it'll be off to the paint shop.

I'm probably not going to attach the various periscope and anntenae gear in preferance towards showing it in a stored 'underwater condition.

Note the Experimental Tandem contra-rotating 4-bladed screws that was a feature on Early VICTORs.
(Later hulls had this replaced by a conventional single 7-blade screw

I'll be posting pics of my finished MiG next weekend. Still have a few minor things to finish and it'll be done.

My Lightning is on the way, at long last. All the parts are off the sprue, and the conversion work to F2A standard is almost done, apart from ading the gun troughs. Then I can get the glue out and move it along.

***A NOTE FOR EVERYONE***
Yall have done some really incredible work here. Every time I go through here and look at the pics that have been posted I realize that I am truly working with some great modelers here and it makes me proud to say Well Done to everybody.

Starting Oct 1st, we'll start wrapping this up so that everybody can be finished by the end date, in other words, the roster will be frozen on the 1st and no new kits or members will be allowed.

Everybody who is participating in this is welcome to join my next GB, the Bonehead GB which is dedicated to the greatest supersonic bomber of all time, the B-1B Lancer.

An update: I am still around. Work has been hecktic and all. I have the upper fuselage on the F-106 done. I am not looking forward to the top and bottom going together then all the filling and sanding that will require. I will post something photowise as soon as I can.

Progress halted thanks to Rita. I need to unpack all my models and supplies, I did not want all my stuff blowing around East Texas. Lucky for me only a few downed tree limbs. I hope everyone else was just as lucky as I was.

Here it is with some paint. I haven't had much time to work on it...
Sorry for the bad image quality:

My Su-15 now has a finished nose gear well, engine air ducts and exhausts, and (as of tonight) wings. The nose gear well was a really poor fit. I suppose moulding it in four pieces let them put more detail on the sides, but it took filler to close the gaps. The wing halves, in contrast, fit together really nicely. The wingtips and trailing edges are very thin, and there were some reinforcing tabs that had to be sanded off, which was a challenge. The left wingtip didn't come out unscathed.

I've held off doing the cockpit so far because I'm trying to work up the nerve to do something ambitious. The instrument panel is a flat piece with a decal, and I've seen FSM articles about adding depth by sandwiching the decal between layers of acetate and thin styrene with holes for the instruments. The instructions include a picture of the decal I can use as a guide for punching the holes. It sounds simple, but I've never attempted this before.

For those who have built aircraft before, how can I protect the cockpit and gear well paint jobs when I airbrush the model? I figure I can put cotton balls in the engines and intakes, but I don't think that would work on the gear wells. For the cockpit, I suppose I can temporarily glue the canopy closed...

EDIT: one other qurstion: from the reviews I've read, the Trumpeter kit's decals are terrible, and the only aftermarket sheet I've been able to find so far (the Begemot one, #48001) is for aircraft from 1990 or later. Does anyone know of some aftermarket decals for the Su-15TM in 1/48 that fit in the group build's pre-1989 timeframe?

Hi everyone! Sounds like everybody is making progress, slowly but surely.
Zokissima, that is looking fantastic!
I'm still hammering away at the B-36. The rear end is finally where I want it now as I had to make corrections to it to represent the early configuration. Seams are pretty much cleaned up and am presently installing the engine pods on the wings and dealing with the fit of the wings to fuselage. Somehow, I managed to install the carry through box upside down(!) and that is causing some fit issues. Insted of busting open the fuselage and yanking it out, I decided to perform surgery on the box to straighten things out. It was at this point that I realized that I hadn't put any weight up front to keep this thing sitting nose down. So now I have to fill the bomb bay and close the doors to hide it all. Another seam to clean up. DOH!!!

The Victor is from the old DRAGON " Adversary" series of kits that usually included one Eastern and one Western Sub with a few scattered ASW helicopters and such.
This kit was the HMS Revenge vs. VICTOR III kit. (I have ot built the revenge yet.)

I actually have about 7 or 8 little 1/700 subs I need to put together. not much detail, but they sure are fun to push around the carpet while making little 'sonar' noises.

(Did I say that out loud?)

Zokissima: Love the progress pics. That sucker is going to look downright deadly when its done. Rmeind me to stay out of your plastic No-Fly zone.


bstrump DOH!! indeed. If I had a nickle for everytime I forgot to add nose weight to a project.

Now th first thing I do is draw a big "W" on the nose of the kit with a pencil before I even clip it off the sprue. Just as a reminder.
That 'W' has saved me twice already from my own stupidity.

MarianLH-----------> Sounds like you got the right idea for the cockpit. I temporarily glue my canopy down with white Elmors Glue, just a few dots to keep it from blowing off. For the landing gear bays you could try tissue paper or tolet paper, but on my last few trys it has blown out during airbrushing.

zokissima------------> Thanks for the pix, shes looking great. That baby is gonna take up some serious counter space.

I just found out that I need to add three yellow strips trimmed in green on the top, middle back of the 2 F-101's, great yellow over a darker color. I also just found out that I had a weak main landing gear, it broke clean off. Gonna have to reattached that soon, nothing alittle super glue wont fix. The plan is to start decaling this weekend but dont hold your breath.

I had the same problem on mine... one of the main legs kept collapsing and the thing sat crooked. Still haven't fixed it...

okay, for better or for worse, I'm done with my T-72. I wish I would have done it in a desert scheme instead of following Tamiya's instructions of using olive drab, but oh well. maybe some day I'll build another one. I must say, it was pretty easy build, no fit problems at all. oh, on the left side of the tank I stuck a toothpick to hold the tracks to the front wheel while the glue dries because the track link came apart.

Well I fixed the one landing gear, weeeeeey. Now I have a painting issue. I can not paint over the bare metal 101, the chrome silver paint will not allow it. The yellow paint cracks and peels.... So, I need to sand the yellow residue off,re-paint the chrome silver, and make a decal of the yellow strips. Both 101's are going to have three yellow strips trimmed in green to show it's the squadron leaders 101. Both 101 will represent two planes and two different time frames in the 333rd FIS life, but both 101's will be the lead plane.
Anyways, thats the update for now.
