Mark, looks great! And the photos look supoob! I gots to gets me one of tham there blue backdrops. Really, make your handywork look that much more impressive and professional. Well done.

Joe, lookin' good so far. Paint looks nice and even. But it looks like those decals silvered up on you. A little touch-up with the green can hide that pretty easily though. Can't wait to see her done!

Well, after a summer's worth of dragging my feet on the canopy and the detail-work, I finally have the finished pics of my 1/72nd Academy P-40N. Overall, I'm happy with her, considering that this is my first foray into the world of wee scale in 12 years and my first EVER vacuum-formed canopy. I hope you enjoy, and as always, comments and critques are appreciated.

O'Riley's Daughter ladies and gentlemen................

Nice work Mark, Joe, and the hannaman ! This seems to be the day to finish the P-40s !

I finished Hasegawa's 1/48 P-40E, using Eduard's photoetched detail set and Eduard decals. The markings are for an Aleutian Tiger, stationed on the island of Kiska in 1943.

The decals needed touchup with paint in places, including overpainting the translucent tail numbers. They conformed to the surface detail very well.

The gear doors, trim tab actuators, radiator flaps, and gunsights are PE. The kit exhausts were bored out with a #11 blade. After the photos were taken, I realized that I forgot to install the light lens on the right landing gear fairing.

This is a great kit, and I highly recommend it along with Eduard's PE set. Thanks for letting me share the build with you !

Thanks Justen! I've seen how well the pictures that others post using a blue background turn out, so decided to give it a try. I simply bought a large piece of blue construction paper in the office section of Wal Mart, then cut it up to cover the inside of my spray booth for the pictures. Cheap and easy.

Your "O'Riley's Daughter" came out looking fantastic. Nice to see another 49th FG P-40 completed!

Bill, thanks for the compliment. As I said in the Aircraft Forum, beautiful build!

Beautiful work, RickThumbs Up [tup]. I like those panel lines. I've compared your build with Bill's. It's interesting in that both are outstanding yet slightly different, and show how one's techniques really make a model unique.

arki30 and waikong: Thanks for the kind words!

brings a tear to my eye to see such beautiful hawks. as for mine i finished also. the lighting played tricks with my decals. when i look at it in living color the decals look fine. when i look at pics they appear to stand out a bit. must be my picture taking (lack of) skills. i added a very light weathering and very light wear. now for pics.

more pics in the aircraft forum.

Great job Rick. She sure is a looker. How'd you like building the Hase kit?

Joe, great job. You'll have a fleet of those puppies in no time! Wink [;)]

Thanks Hannaman. The Hasegawa kit is very good. Not exactly for beginners due to the kits' engineering leaving more seam filling & re-scribing than normal, but any modeler with intermediate skills should be able to obtain an excellent build. The detail OOTB is very good, but the Eduard color PE detail set really adds a lot to the kit.

Nice job on the Tomahawk, Joe! Weathering is great--noticeable yet subtle.

Looks like this is the week for finishing P-40s!

Finished! Pics aren't great since one of my "studio" lights was burnt out, but they're passable. This is the 1/48 AMtech P-40E. Totally OOB, except for Eduard PE seatbelts and True Detail wheels. I used the kit markings and paint scheme for Lt Dallas Clinger, 16th Fighter Squadron at Kweilin China. There is some conjecture regarding the red spinner and apparently there were some battle-damaged areas overpainted with olive drab. But since the info was scanty I went for the cleaner and more colorful option. Panel lines are lightly accented with a watercolor wash and pastels were used for the exhaust and gun stains.

Couple of goof ups (missed filling the hole for the top antenna for example), some stubborn kit decals that refused to stop silvering, and the kit canopy really doesn't want to be in the open position, but for the most part I'm pretty happy with her.

Thanks for letting me be a part of the build. Big Smile [:D]

Nice looking build, arki!Thumbs Up [tup] I really have an affinity for the AMtech kits (I'm building their P-40K right now), and you did them justice. I'm surprised you had problems with some of the kit decals, since AMtech is supposed to be among the best.

Don't worry, you aren't the only one who's forgotten to fill that antenna hole!Whistling [:-^]

Thanks dragonfly, mark joyce, wing_nut & kingthad! Appreciate the comments. This is the second AMtech P-40E I've done and it's a pretty fun kit to build.

mark joyce, am I relieved to know I'm not the only one who's missed that [Censored [censored] hole Tongue [:P]. The decals were pretty good overall, but the ident numbers on the tail gave me problems on both sides. Never did really settle down.

wing_nut, that kid is the hilarious reason I picked the decals Tongue [:P]
