This is preliminary, as the build won't start until later in the year, probably May or June. But I've been working on the build logo as well as a 'Foto Forum' where anyone participating in the build can go for reference or inspiration. When the latter is finished I'll post a link.

Some basic info:

1) Any model, in any scale, of the Curtiss P-40 will be eligible.
2) 'What-ifs' are more than welcome.
3) You may submit as many models as you like
4) There are no restrictions; you can build 'em SOB or you can go nuts with the brass and resin or you can even scratchbuild if you like.

Reference can be had at The Hawk's Nest.

This is a brand-spankin'-new site and I'm adding stuff bit by bit. I'll try to accommodate any requests for specific reference photos. Photos of the models from this GB will be posted there as well...

More info will be added as necessary.

P-40J (This would fall under the 'what-if' category, as none were built)

i am so in. revell p-40b 1/48 will be the victim............err subject. it will be a plane from hickham not sure the subject just yet.

I'd like to get my hands on the new Hasegawa P-40E when it's released. So, providing I can afford it, count me in. I'll probably do it as an Australian RAAF bird. I'm working on trumpeters P-40B at the moment actually.

I'm definitely in. Probably the new 1/48 Hasegawa P-40E kit. Not sure of markings, have to go through my stash. May or June start date is OK with me. Should be fun Smile [:)].

Count me in ... allows me to fulfill my fetish for RNZAF aircraft. So I guess that makes it an -E, -M or a -N. I think I can pick up an Eduard Profipack -M, so that might be the go ... Anyone have experience of that kit at all??

Either that or I'm an extreme optimist, considering I haven't finished anything in... a long time. Although when I do finish things it's usually in bunches. Maybe I'll do the AMT kit before the shindig begins, though. I could use a warmup...

Pingtang, I've added you to the reserve list. If you want to post pictures of the Trumpeter kit you're working on, feel free.

Matter of fact, if anyone has images of any P-40s they've built in the past, feel free to post them here. They'll undoubtedly serve as inspiration for some folks. And maybe motivation for me... Tongue [:P]

You just love that 'ole Monogram kit, 'eh? Well, it's still among the most accurate early P-40 kits out there. I see you've finished it as Boyington's AVG Hawk; which decals did you use?

Also, I see that you cut out the control surfaces and that always lends a bit more realism. I have to point something out, however, and please don't take this as a rag... but if you have one aileron deflected downward, then the other should be deflected upward.

She looks good, Joe. Hopefully I'll build an AVG Hawk someday...

steve thanks. still learning how all this works. much appreciate the comments though. the decal sheet mfg escapes me. cant remember what company. got it through squadron. got to organize the blasted desk so i can find what i want. the revell makes a decent bird. this one has a scratchbuilt pit and gear. plan on even more with the next one.

Weren't control surfaces often left "down" on the ground? Can't remember where I read that ... and I also not a pilot, so may be WAYYYY wrong Wink [;)]

Greetings fellow P40 fans! Even though I'm mostly an armor modeler, the P40 is definitely my favorite WWII fighter (I don't even know where the mustang ranch is [:0], runs for cover). Is there any chance you could allow me in with my Revell/monogram P40B WIP? Maybe you can add me as a restoration member? This thing has been in my pile of half-builts for a long time and has no chance of getting finished without some motivation. I've messed it up pretty bad and it is practically full rebuild for me. All seams need fixed, the right wing half is glued on ascew, some parts have been oversanded, etc ... Please help save my P40.

i-beam be careful with the wing attachment. the gap is horrible. the only way i have found to avoid this is to dry fit then attach the upper part. it does look good so far.

Thanks for the "looks good so far" Fightnjoe, but you have to see it close up to realize the mistakes. I wish I had known about your warning before I put the wing together the first time. Your P40 looks great BTW, nice work with the control surfaces.

If the controls weren't locked on the ground, then the control surfaces would often times be deflected, with the elevators both going in the same direction.

But each aileron will go in the opposite direction of the other. This is what enables the pilot to roll the aircraft in flight; whichever way the aircraft is rolled, one aileron will drop, providing more lift to that wing, and the other will rise, depriving that wing of lift, and a roll is the result. Given enough speed, that is.

Hey, a P-40 build! I would love to join, I have a Revell P-40B, a AMtech p-40, and an old Arii P-40. Gonna do at least one of them as AVG's Tex Hill's #48. I have a resin cockipt kit and some Superscale decals, so maybe I'll do another AVG mount too.

Okay, I think we're up to date on the duty roster.

I think I mentioned earlier that I was going to whip up a 'Foto Forum' for the P-40, similar to the ETO Club forum. Well, I opted to give website construction another go...

I've decided to do something that I've wanted to do for a very long time and put up a site devoted to the P-40, and to my Grandfather who worked at Curtiss Wright here in Buffalo. Although it's only a few days old and by no means complete in any sense of the word, this is the result:

The Hawk's Nest

I've only a relative few pages up at the moment, but it will grow. This is only a free site at the moment and I'm limited to some degree, but I've got enough material on the P-40 and on Curtiss-Wright to put all other similar sites to shame and I'm not ashamed to say that this is my intention.

As I mentioned, this is a free site and, as such, it will eventually have an advert banner and pop-ups after an initial period. Hopefully most of you have pop-up killers, but for those who don't... my apologies...

I'm going to have a modeling section on the site and all the builds form this GB will be displayed there.

I'll also try and get a firm date nailed down for the start of this GB soonly...

Would like to get in on this GB-currently have an Acad. P-40C that is 'committed' to the Pacific GB, although I won't get started for at least another month. Is it acceptable to build one plane for two GB's?

Hey Steve, can I play with you guys? Seeing how I have been relieved of my guyz duties I have some time on my hands and I would really like to build something. Is there a reason no one has mentioned building the Trumpeter 1/48th B model?

I like the new site, P-40's are cool. I have a couple of pics of the P-40N at the Museum of Aviation up on planepictures. It is in the markings of Robert Scott, not that you can really tell because of the way they have it cramed in there. Waikong, unfortunately I don't have many photos of Curtiss from my Grandfather. There's one photo of he and his crew when he was working on the C-46, but that's it. It's a long story but due to the ignorance and greed of the 'other' side of that side of the family, I have very little to remember my Grandfather by.

Bobbaily, I don't see a problem with using one model for multiple group builds and you're more than welcome to join us!

Darwin, I'll try and get some shots of #68 up for you.

Wayne, you can play only if your Mom says it's okay. Wink [;)] I take it you wanna use the Trumpeter 48th kit? And you've been relieved of duty? So now the Three Geezers is no longer three guys?

And it looks like you've been having fun with the new camera. Those are some really nice shots. I intend to have a section on the site for warbirds and museum birds and would like to use those, although I'd like to work from the original raw images, if I may. I suppose we can work out the licensing fees... Wink [;)]

Justen, well I'm not lucky, really. I'm just ruthless relentless in my quest to acquire as many images as I can! Especially when it comes to the P-40. I only wish that I had more original photos...
