Dave, Thank you so much for doing the GB badge image for me. Bow [bow]Bow [bow]Bow [bow].

I'm a halfway able bodied modeler, but a complete idiot with computer related stuff. Got it copied & will post it from my host site ASAP.

Thanks again.

Regards, Rick

Jules, I knew I had seen a decal set for Oligvie's Spit, and I found it again:
http://aircraftresourcecenter.com/ISL/Water%20Mark%20Decals/48001-48010/48001/WM48001.htm

Don't know if you want to order it or what but it exists!

Jules, have I got a Famous Canadian pilot for you (I done some research!):
Alfred Keith Olgivie - Spitfire ace (6) with RAF 609 in the BoB

Jules I was looking through some books at the library on my lunch break (1 block away Big Smile [:D]) and saw some notes on a group of Canadians that went over and joined 609 squadron before 403 squadron was formed. There was one pic of a Mk.I of 609 squadron. I'll pick the book up on my way home and scan it for ya.

Jay Thanks for the pics, finally had a chance to look at them. Let me know if you plan to remove them so that I can download what I need. Also, Jules has given me an idea, I think I'll start rebuilding my CF-18 until I get my hands on a Lanc kit. It was my pride and joy at one time (my first experience with PE almost 20 years ago) but many moves and years later it has been much damaged and I might even repaint it if I can find a good decal set.

Jules, did some quick research here at lunch. The only RCAF squadron to use spitfire mk 1s was RCAF 403, They only had them from May to July 1941. Their code was KH*?. I think they still had the green and dark earth camo, I guess the mk2s they re-equiped with had the geren/gray camo. There was probably a fuselage band (sky colour?) as I think that was standard from the end of the BoB. I can't find anything on serials though.

I did find numerous websites with RCAF 403 hsitories. I also found this interesting link http://www.junobeach.org/e/4/can-tac-air-fig-dick-e.htm

I have a book on the history of the RCAF, I'll look in it when I get home tonight.

AND WE'RE OFF!

Tongue [:P]Propeller [8-]Party [party]

Jules glad you could fit us in, I have no problems with rebuilding a damaged plane! Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] I'll do some research for a mk1 spit in Canadian markings.

Rick I was going to do the same as Dave but he did MUCH better than I would have been able to do. I like the one on the left.

Dave I think nut is a better description of me, just ask my wife! Laugh [(-D]

I have now posted my Museum aircraft pics, you can find them here:
http://photobucket.com/albums/v308/jboutin/
and the password is 'models'. There are four albums to look at. I also have pics of an Anson mk2, Barkley Grow, and Harvard (postwar) that have not been uploaded. If you want me to I can post them.

I'm going to concentrate on my Beaufighter right now, I just have to finishing scratching the wheel wells then it is time for some paint! Soon, very soon the boly will come!

Thanks DaveThumbs Up [tup] I'll give you guys a little rundown on my Spit rebuild...........

I originally built it for the first Old Guns Gb in BoB colours but since then my little angel kidsAngel [angel] got a hold of it and practically destroyed it, Kids ehEvil [}:)]
They bent the wings until the seam gave, ripped the udercarriage off, snapped the prop blades off, pulled the canopy off and destrroyed the antenna and rigging......
So what i'll have to do is strip it back to plastic fix the seams and repair all the broken peices before giving it a new paint job, Darren sent me a spare pilots door that he had so i'mm gonna scribe out the door and make it an open canopy.........

BTW if Jay is cool with this i will probably need a hand finding a Canadian subject to model.............Thumbs Up [tup]

Looking forward to this build guys as soon as I get a few things cleared off my desk (well actually a lot of things in the way right now but looking forward to it all the same Big Smile [:D])

Jules glad to have you aboard. If that nut cool dude of a GB moderator gives you any hassle just let me know. I'll take care of him!!! Black Eye [B)]Wink [;)]

Rick Hate to see a grown man struggle with something other than a piece of plastic so I took the liberty of making a couple of badges for ya (seeing how it only takes me two minutes once I have the images).

Rick, it is pretty easy. I used the basic template, here is Dave's Lanc

First I opened it in Paint. I then openned paint again with the pic I wanted to use (Boly for mine, Fury for yours) I selected the actualy image I wanted to shrink then used the Image file drop down with the stretch/skew command and shrunk it down to the size I needed to fit into the space in the GB badge. Then cut and pasted it into the badge and saved the GB badge. Hope it works for you!

Sarcasim... what me?!?!? Never!!! Mischief [:-,]

Yes I have read several reviews now on the new Lancaster and while they all have their reservations about this or that it sounds like its a winner. Like I said though it will be a couple of months before I can order it and get started. Might have to see if I can dig up something less demanding for this build in the meantime.

Finally some head way on my Beaufighter. I finally got the second engine plumbed and almost ready to install. I have to paint it. Ths time I'll paint it BEFORE I glue it into the nacelle! Dunce [D)] doh! The first one I put in then added a couple drops of superglue then about 5 mins later I realized, I should have painted it first! Banged Head [banghead]. Soon it will be ready for the paint shop.

Only 7 more day guys!

Awesome Rick, really looking forward to your Seafury.

Tom, only a 7 days till it starts, you gotta get one soon! I don't think Canada or any Canadians used the martlet but we did have some pilots in the FAA. I know of your love of Naval AC so here's some you may be interested in.
We had 2 aces in the Pacific, one, Bill Atkinson From Vancouver got 5 in Hellcats? You can read about him here:
http://www.naval-museum.mb.ca/people/a/atkinson.htm

There is also a little more info in the book "Aces, Warriors and Wingmen" The link for that is in my sig.

The other, Don Sheppard flew corsairs, also with the FAA (5 kills).
http://www.acesofww2.com/Canada/Canada.htm (scroll to almost bottom)

Another one you may be interested in is Hammy Gray (FAA Corsair pilot), One of the last pilots killed during WW2 and a recipiant of the VC. There is lots of info about him on the net. There is even a decal set for the Corsair he flew in his last mission (can't remember who makes it).

Paul, I think I can make an exception for you, seeing as you are soon to be a Canadian. Keep us posted with progress pics. I know I'm going to be late out of the gate for this one as I haven't done anything for two weeks! My Beaufighter still doesn't have it's engines on and I haven't got to scratching the new wheel bays. And my Pearl Harbour Zero was stalled for a bit while I was getting seat pics but that one is slowed right down too.

I think I'll try to keep my Bolingbroke as OOB as possible (yeah right as if that'll happen) except the nose and cockpit. I'm also going to try something new for me - re-scribing! The rivets on the Airfix kit are way to big, the Beaufighter's I can live with, not the Bolingbroke's.

(edit) Matt, I work only a few minutes from Uncle Bills, bad, really bad! When ever I drive my car to work which is rarely as I cycle most days, I inevitably find my self driving over to talk to him and see the new cool stuff, and I usually end up buying some paint or other little things I need. Like I said, bad, very bad....

Hi guys,
thanks for the links and info. I did a few price comparisons and the kits certainly seem cheaper in Canada than they are here in England. Although I am living in the south of England where nothing is cheap. Although saying that I did pick up a couple of bargains lately. I guess the LHS had overstocked...Revell 1/32 F4-F from £35 to £15 and a Revell 1/72 B-36 from £50 down to £20. ($2.20CAN = £1) I'm a sucker for bargains.

I think I will start my CF-104 slightly before the Sep 1st start date as I am between projects and don't have enough time to do anything else before the start date.

Hey Jay! just popped in to say I haven't forgotten about ya or the GB... things have been hectic lately with the startup of several big projects at work... all I have time for when I come home is to get on here. I just rechecked the times for the GB and I think I can fit it in.. not sure what I will build yet but saw a few decent kits down at the LHS that would go good in Canadian markings... (all WWII stuff)

I'll let you know when I have the kit in my hands!!
---Tom--- O' brave new world, That has such people in it!

Paul, the main one here in the interior is BC Shaver and Hobby but there main store is in Victoria. They have a web page with contact info at http://www.bcshaver.com/

I know there are some other large outfits in Vancouver but I have never used them for mail order. I'm fairly new in BC, originally from Manitoba. I have used both Squadron and Greatmodels to mailorder stuff and they both worked fine. Canada customs is very hit and miss although I've been told that the larger your order the more likely you'll get hit. The other very important thing to remember is to use the post office and not UPS or any other courier service. I tried using UPS once because their shipping costs were lower than the Post office. However... they charge a flat rate of $30 Canadian to clear your package through customs Shock [:O]! OUCH!!! Lesson learned!! Sad [:(]Boohoo [BH] The post office will charge $5 (EDIT plus the customs charge) if it has to go through customs. I've had orders under $20 that have just gone straight through with no charge.

Good luck with the move!!

Paul, there are few guys here in the build that are from central BC (Ithink there is one from Kelowna and Razordws is from Vernon). They may know of shops in that area.
Calgary is a little closer than Edmonton. No I haven't ordered anything mail -order from these guys (I live in Calgary) but they have a great selection in-store and could probably get you anything you need.
http://members.shaw.ca/unclebills/
http://www3.telus.net/invader/
The two above are strictly palstic stuff, Uncle Bills is really good. Rick Chin there is a great guy. The following are mainly RC but also have a huge selecetion of Plastic and supplies/accessories.
http://www.modelland.com/
http://www.pmhobbycraft.ca/
I have bought stuff from all four and their prices are reasonable for Canadian suppliers.
Good luck!
