North African GB "All Subjects" (Start NOW - Finish 31st of Oct)

NORTH AFRICAN GROUP BUILD 2005

I've always had a keen interest in the fighting that took place in North Africa during the Second World War but have no models to show for that interest, so here we go....................

Rules are simple, any Aircraft, Armoured Vehicle, Ship Boat Artillery piece or figure that took part in the actions in North Africa From the time the first shots were fired on the 11th of June 1940 until the last shots on the 11th of May 1943.................
BTW Malta will also be included in this Group Build...........

OK, count me in. I'll have 2 other GB's going on at the same time, but I'll fit it in somehow. I'll do a Hasegawa 1/48 Bf-109E-4 Trop, Black 3 from 2/JG27. That will be a pretty quick build, so I'll put a "maybe" on a second build, Hasegawa 1/48 Henschel Hs-129B-1. Should be fun, looking forward to it.

What better way to get a shiny new star than by signing up for yet another Group Build!!! Big Smile [:D]

Not sure what I'm going to do yet but I'm thinking a 1/32 bf 109E might be the ticket. I'll keep you posted.

Jules-been looking forward to this one. Purchased the 1/48th Accurate Minatures F-6A Mustang today (@ Hobby Lobby-40% off-worth the hour drive each way!). Two options-RAF 225 Squadron, 2nd Tactical Air Fouse, Algeria or USAAF version flying out of Berteaux Areodrome, Algeria, 1943. Not sure if the USAAF version will qualify. Your thoughts?

OK, after a little more research (more detailed reading of the instructions), the US version of this F-6A(111th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron) flew recon missions over the Tunisian front for the 12th Air Support Command and then flew missions for the Seventh Army's invasion of Sicily (July 1943). The RAF version, 225th Squadron, is a definate fit. Decisions, decisions. Guess I can wait till it's buttoned up before I have to committ.

I have to say that I'm still impressed with the detail of the Accurate Minature's product . However, there are a couple of 'undocumented steps' that aren't covered in the instructions. Oh well, can't wait till May.

Tom-thanks for posting the link-will come in handy for research purposes.

btw, should we expect a visit from Kremps?

Oh she hasnt posted yet Bob? Well she plans to be in on this too... she hasnt said anything to Jules or Sean .... but she is actually going to be building a kit for this one and I will post the pics for her...

She mumbled something about a rare Nigerian cropduster/biplane fighter that fought against the Germans... dunno.... we'll have to wait and see!

Maybe not that exact aircraft, but that style of camo. Now....can one of you more knowledgable people tell me what RLM colours would be involved in that scheme?

I think the colours for that one are RLM 78, 79 and 80, not a 100% sure on 78 lightblue...........

Ok, I'll build a 109E, usual Tamiya offering using the PE I ordered for the BoB GB Angry [:(!]

Problem is, I dont want to use the kit decals, but cant seem to find any NA decals relating to the 109's Sad [:(]

Anyone have any ideas????
If it comes down to it I'll have to use the kit offerings I spose..........

If I'm really lucky, I might be able to squeeze in the 129 B2 you sent me Jules, I saw somewhere a really cool squiggle paint scheme for one of those.............

anyway it's a Martlett III AX733/K Of No 805 Sqn FAA Serving in the Western Desert during Sept 1941, camo was originally allover blue but stone uppersurfaces were added soon after arriving in the desert..............

Hey, how good are those stencils people keep rabbiting on about???

The 129 I plan to do has a big red 'F' on the side, and the only thing I can think of is a stencil, but never used em before and have no idea how effective they are.

P.S. the zebra stripe thing kinda reminds ya of Kremp's lingerie huh? she seems to like that and the leopard spots the most...

Yeah, the 129 camo looks really cool on this thing.....

Might take a wee bit of time to get right, but will DEFINATELY be worth the effort in the end me tinks'
