Towards the end of thr year why don't we have a "The Usual Subjects Gb
The idea would be to grab that kit that you've been wanting to do but can't because of other Gb commitments, you fellas must have a kit in the stash that you've been wanting to build, for me it's the Tamiya FW 190 D9 with the Eduard PE set thst i've been sitting on for a year or so...............

Where in Northern VA is it? Might have to go check it out.

Jules-love the idea. I'll need something to hold me over between 30 Sept and the start of the Battle of Britian, Pt.II in Dec/Jan. Happen to have a Revell bf109G that is in need of a reason to be built.....

hi guys,

oh my giddy Aunt!! this is a GB that i have been waiting round for soooooo long!Big Smile [:D]Big Smile [:D]Big Smile [:D]

i would love to join if i may?

i have a ton of stuff on the bench right now, and a ton more queueing impatiently to get on it, but what the...if i'm allowed, i'll join.

i have tam's panzer III, verlinden interior, friul tracks, eduard PE and tristar crew all lined upCool [8D], but i'm still not sure that's what i'll actually do.

if anyone can find me some good pics of the Pz III L in this conflict, then i might go for it; the scheme in the kit has really boring markingsDisapprove [V]

i also have Italeri's Crusader, Revell's Hs129 (no winter camo guys unless some sneaked past meDisapprove [V]), Hassy Bf109 E4 Trop, Hassy Bf 109 F, DML's M4A1, Trump's P-40B, Hassy's Desert Hurricane and Tam's Desert Spit (last two i have Malta decals for)....they all want to be built!!!

the armour i'd really like to do would be a British Sherman at El-Alamein, but that requires a lot of aftermarket purchases, and She Who Must Be Obeyed might just pull the plug on that one!Disapprove [V]Black Eye [B)][:0]

finally, for those of you doing a Matlida, or wanting a decent kit of one, take a look at TIger Models, they have one out real soon i think!Wink [;)]

these guys are good - if you email them you get a reply from the boss! can't ask for more than that.

Enjoy the GB...

Already have a question about my paint Black Eye [B)]
on Achtungpanzer.com it has this pic of a Pz III Ausf H in Libya during '41. I thought all Afrika Korps tanks were tannish.

Edit (again): My Pz III didnt come with good Afrika Korps decals (one looked right, but where the swastika is supposed to be, it had an X) and none of my kits have them either. Is there someplace online I could buy them? Anyone have extras?
And for the Pz III Ausf L I found this from Achtung Panzer: (just the important parts)
In June of 1942, Ausf L tank entered production. 653 were produced
Vehicles send to North Africa were equipped with additional air filters, modified oil filters different cooling fan reduction ratio and were designated as Ausf L(Tp)
Seems as though they were!
edit: which is actually not what you were asking. I'll try to find pics
I found this pic Said it was captured in Tunisia but I doubt thats the orignal paint, it looks like old off white paint to me

I have a favor to ask. Could someone send me some 1/48 swastikas please? To fit on my bf-109e. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm fresh out of swastikas... the only ones I had were on the sheet I sent Tanky for his Do17... (if you have any left Tanky those are 1/48)

I have seen them in luftwaffe and nazi markint sheets on squadron.. just do a search for luftwaffe markings or nazi or german markings... they have whole sheets of just swastikas!

Nicholas, welcome to the GB mate, it's going to be a good one isn't it. I know exactly you mean about waiting for this GB for ages Big Smile [:D], ever since this was mooted in the BoB GB I've been hanging out for it.. Agree with you as well on the British Sherman at El-Alamein. I have the DML early Sherman with the cast hull, but there is just way toooo much very expensive AM bits needed to turn out an acceptable Sherman Mk.I. I can only hope that someday someone will bring out a mainstream kit for these early Shermans Sigh [sigh]

Jules, The Usual Subjects GB Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]. Also, what kit are you using for the Bf 109F-4?

Tanky I agree with Daniel, The Trumpeter P-40B would be perfect for this GB.

Cheers

Can't believe how quick my 109 is going together. The wings are on, all the nose panels are on, and the tail is ready. I even gave it a coat of primer this morning. A bit of clean up of some seams, and I'll be ready to paint some RLM 78 on the under side. Only problem is, I'll have to wait a while to get some RLM 79. No shops near me sell any paints apart from Tamiya.Censored [censored]

Scer, to answer your question about the paint.

All of the vehicles that were sent to North Africa were sent in The panzer gray, german gray, whatever you want to call it. The troops on the field usually mixed up some mud and smeared it all over their vehicle. It was very rare that the tan color you see was actually paint. Most likely becaus they did not have the time or supplies, and the mud mixed in with the backround alot better.
I am not certain which color you should use to airbrush though. I have seen model with Tamiya dark yellow and others with Tamiya Desert yellow, and both look real. So i dont know.

As you all know , I know next to nothing about armour, but I have heard that the RLM paints were developed to be used in the field, either thinned with petrol or water if need be.

As a result they were often used on AFVs and soft skinned vehicles. Bearing in mind that both sides used captured vehicles, wheeled, tracked and winged, the opportunities for mixed camo and markings are endless.

Anyone fancy a Mk1 Hurricane in RLM 75 with Balkan crosses, or Bedford lorry in Afrika Korp service? Sort of a twist on the 'Under New Ownership GB'.

Jules that's a fairly easy one to answer actually, it would either be my Tamiya Me 262 A-1a, or the Hasegawa B-25 J. Both of these kits have been staring at me from my stash for ages but I never seem to get around to building them.

Cheers

Now all I have to do is get the kit, for the right price of course!!!!

Tossing up whether to try and order the resin and pe for the 129 or not, reckon I might have enough time.
