I know you love research Marc (me too), but i'll give you a HUGE help, check out:

www.ww2aces.com in particlular this link: http://www.acesofww2.com/Canada/aces/morrison.htm  scroll down to the bottom and you can see a pic of him beside his MkVb.  Looks liek his Mk Vb had full wings...

Also I've seen these decals at my LHS http://www.aircraftresourcecenter.com/ISL/Water%20Mark%20Decals/Water%20Mark%20Decals.htm in particular the top one (with Morrison's Mk Vb).  Water Mark Decals makes excellent decals, I haven't used them before but I have seen several finished Spitfires with these decals on them and they look awesome!

Sorry to do your research for you but I had seen these before in previous research and thought I should pass them along and save you some time (now you have more time for modelling, right?Wink [;)])

EDIT - Chris I just saw you post after I posted this one and I just had to make a note - If you like TIGGERS, my wife and I are making a winnie-the-pooh theme for our babies room and she found the coolest toy!  A stuffed Tigger that stands and when you push on his head he sings "hoo, hoo, hoo, hoooo, tiggers love bouncing cuz thats what tiggers do best" then a mechanism inside connected to the legs makes him jump! It may freak out a little kid the first time but after that I'm afraid of the cost for the batteries! Laugh [(-D]

Don't worry about the batteries Jay, after your kid has played for the hundredth time in less than an hour it will suddenly develop a "lose" connection in the wiring somehow and won't play any more. Evil [}:)]Wink [;)]

Dave, are you hinting I should "sabotage" the toy (ei: secretly take out the batteries)?  How preposterous, I can't imagine why you would be telling me that.Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Jay Thanks for the links and saving me the research time I do need all the modeling time I can getBig Smile [:D].   Your right it does look like a full winged MK Vb that's great however I am going to look for a clipped wing spitWink [;)]

As for bouncing tigger do yourself a favour and invest in rechargeable batteries.  We got one of those for my grandson he loves it, unfortunatly after the hundredth time in a hour it was still going strong that's when Nana & grandpaBear did a tactical retreat and left mom & dad to deal with Squirt and tiggerBig Smile [:D]

Well on to modeling I got the gun mounted onto the brackets that hold it onto the halftrack i think i will finish painting & weathering it before mounting it in the bed of the track to make things easier

Chris - ironically, I too am a Tigger addict.  I even have a tie (from way back in my cubicle dwelling, Dilbertesque tie wearing days) with Tigger looking over his shoulder sticking his tongue out...

Also I am a fan of "Bumbles" (from Rudolf the Red Nose Riendeer)   maybe it is the bouncing thing...

"Ya know the thing about Bumbles boy????  BUMBLES BOUNCE!!!!"

That said, if anyone is planning on building a clipped wing Spit, the Hasegawa  1/48 kits come with both options in the same kit.  Both my Mk.Vb and Mk.VIII have the clipped wing versions available...

Jay, word to the wise mate, parents and toys that make a noise are a definite no-no!

Every year my parents buy toys for my three that are loud and require batteries, and every time those damn batteries are flat within hours, and then Daddy can't find the rechargables. Shame I know, but one of those things!Wink [;)]

Tom, is that the kit that Revell have just reboxed? Also there's the new Airfix Spit which looks pretty nice.

Dave, thanks mate.

Progress Update

All the major components for the 162 are cleaned up and ready for the paintshop, so I'm hoping to get the RLM 76 on this weekend, and maybe paint the engine now I've cleaned up all the seams in the intake and exhaust.

Karl, I saw a preview on Hyperscale for the Airfix Spitfire Mk IX and it looks pretty darn good, I even posted about in the aircraft section.  I think I may have to get one to check it out.

Oh yeah, update on the decals issue.  The white residue is mostly gone! I think I can live with it now.  I put the future on this morning and it looks like there is only a little bit left on the fuselage.  I think I may be able to hide it with a little weathering, which is all I pretty much have left to do (whoohoo!).  This weekend is shapeing up to be crazy busy with absolutely no time for playing with the plastic so I'll have to finish it some time next week!

Jay, good to hear about the decal issues.

Got to mention this, I've just ordered a new compressor, a Revell Omega, it's a rebadge of the Silair 15, which as it's name sugests is silent, or near enough. I've been saving my modeling allowance for the last few months as this baby is setting me back £195, but from what I've read it should be worth it.

It's silence will be in stark contrast to my old Werther 3 which sounds like a bucket of bolts in a washinh machine! My fault, I dropped it a couple of years back, and it has never been the same since.

Karl - I've been looking at getting a silent compressor as well, mine sounds more like a low flying helicopter when it is refilling itself... not a big deal and my wife swears she can't hear it.. but like you I am saving my modeling allowance for a bit...

May I join this group build? If so, how do I add the GB badge to my signature?

Hey there Doug (Bship1969), first of all Sign - Welcome [#welcome] to the Finescale forum I'm sure you'll enjoy it here.

As for the Group Build, let me know what you plan on building and I'll see if it qualifies or not, if you have any questions on what to is eligible check out page one of this thread.  Given that we have just over a month to go if your build is eligible and you think you can finish in time you're in.

Putting an image in your sig is pretty easy, but to post any images to your sig or of your work you are required to have the image "hosted" somewhere on the Internet.  Most people (me included) use a free service such as photobucket to host our images for us.

So first of all save the image to your hard disk then upload it to your photobucket account.  Now all you need do is insert your image location where the text says [ img] ... [ /img ]. So as an example if you have images on your space at photobucket then it would read:

[ img ]http://your_photobucket_acct.com/your_screen/image_name.file[ /img ]

PS. Remove the spaces in the IMG bit or it won’t work.

Jay I'm glad to hear that your decal troubles are all sorted out Thumbs Up [tup].

Karl I noticed that you've got a KV-2 on the bench at the moment.  Is it for a GB or something just for fun?

Cheers

Tom, my wife has made it very clear, as have the kids, that my current compressor is just TOO LOUD!!!!!!Shock [:O] From what I've read this one is whisper quiet.

Darren, I started the KV2 in January, and it's about 75% complete, as a break from the Panther, but it has languished the last few months on the shelf.

Here are a few pics..

Once the He 162 is finished I'll probably complete the KV.

Progress Update.

All the under surfaces on the He 162 received a coat of RLM 76, which doubled as a primer coat, and showed up a few imperfections, which I'm sorting out today.

Spent last night adding pipework to the engine using fuse wire and bits of wire insulation to simulate connectors etc. It's amazing how much Revell left off, not that it would have been too easy to replicate it in plastic.

I finally got the mottling finished, it's not what I was hoping for, but it's good enough for my first time.  Painting the cowling black tonight, future, decals and weathing this week.

Scott I know how you feel when it comes to Luftwaffe mottling, mine never turns out quite the way I was hoping for.  It usually takes me at least 2 resprays until I get a result I can tolerate.

Mottling sure is frustrating.  I just don't understand it.  I was able to do the gray mottling on the back half of the plane perfectly.  Not too light, not too heavy.  But the green on the front half I couldn't get it to go on light enough to save my life.  I would up punching irregular holes in an index card with my x-acto knife and spraying through the holes.  The "look" of the two different colors of the mottling are very different.  To help minimize this problem, I'm going to weather the crap out of the plane and have lot's of exhaust staining down the side.  When all else fails.... cheat....  Laugh [(-D]

Scott, what I did on my FW-190 I built recently is go back over with a VERY thin RLM 76 in successive very light coats until it "faded" the two colors together.  It really did blend everything well.  I also did it on the 1/72 Fw-190 I posted a pic of early in the build.  If your mottle is like mine was that first plane it was irregularly sized shapes and the stark contrast between the colors that got to me.

Darren - You can take me off the MIA list. I'll have to change my build though. The super-detailed Me-410 is a bit much for me to take on at the moment. I picked up a Dragon 1/48 Ta-152H-1 the other day, so I might chuck that on in. Unfortunately I'm going to Melbourne for a week tomorrow, so this flash of inspiration might not last (BTW, any good hobby shops around Melbourne?). Might get into next week if I'm still sufficiently inspired.

Daniel there are three hobby shops in the Melbourne CBD (Victorian Hobby Centre, Hearns Hobbies & Hobby Easy) and a few decent ones around the burbs.  Where abouts are you going to be, if you're in town let me know when and we can meet up at Vic Hobbies.

Jay, I picked up a set of Cutting Edge decals as I'm doing White 1. The camo is slightly different on this when compared to other He 162s. See the link below, it's the one at the top:

http://www.hannants.co.uk/search/?FULL=CED32065

Unfortunately CE got it wrong with the fin colours and the Werkenummer, but these are easily fixed.

Daniel, you're a brave man going with the Dragon kit!

Progress Update

Not a lot, mainly tidy up following the first coat of paint.

Spent last night hacking the internal detail off the cannon bay door, as it's incomplete as molded, and I figured it would be easier to recreate from scratch the interior framing.

I'm off tomorrow, seeing at it's my birthday, the big 35 (Runs away screaming!), so with a bit of luck my new comp. will turn up today, and I'll get some time to apply the RLM 76.

Karl Congrats on hitting 35 welcome to the "Old Guns" age bracket LOL I'm hitting 36 this August myself

my frustrations on the halftrack continue plain and simple, once the fit on the hull is screwed up EVERYTHING goes out of whack. I probably would have been better off converting a Tamiya 251. But hey ya cant look a gift horse in the mouth as I won this kit in a raffle (much as I hate them maybe I should have chosen the King Tiger) it's going to take a lot of work to clean this Beastie up however i can say the gun assembily and interior are beautiful. DML make some beautiful armor kits but like some of their aircraft Their SdKfz 251 sieries kits are a BEAR to deal with I have to say if this had been my First DML kit it would also have been my LAST but with my 2 Tiger I ,Flackpanzer ,ZSU23/4M and all the 1/72 scale armor that i have built lately I'm surprised the kit is so bad. I like the 251 sieries halftracks but I will see what other companies have to offer before even thinking of planting down any cash for another DML 251

I'm glad to see that other members of the GB models are coming out so well WTG GuysWink [;)]Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]

BTW if anyone is interested my "Braile Scale Armor Vacation GB 06" thread is up in the GB forum take a look and see if it interests any of youCool [8D]
