Battle For Germany 45 GB Starts Now - 08 May 06

Battle For Germany Group Build
2005 - 2006

Situation Report
By January 1945, the question was how many more lives would be lost before the Third Reich collapsed. In the west, combined armies of France, Britain, and the United States stood on the very border of the German nation. Facing them stood the same divisions that four years before had swept all before them. In the east, the massive Soviet forces were launching their winter offensive to drive the Wehrmacht all the way to Berlin. Numerically the German Army was overwhelmed, but some of their shattered divisions were still the best in the world. It was with these crack forces that Germany and the Allies fought the Battle of Germany

Rules Of Engagement
1. The theme for the build will be The Battle for Germany 1945 and cover land, sea & air operations in the NW Europe from January 1st 1945 and running up to VE day. This of course includes British, American, Canadian, Soviet & German (along with their foreign allies) troops.
2. Any scale
3. OOB or as much PE & Aftermarket as you want.
5. This build is open to everyone regardless of modeling skills
6. This current thread will be used for the group build
7. Must have fun Big Smile [:D]

Dates
Start date for this build is Dec 1 2005 and will end on (May 8th VE Day) 2006.

The Group Build badge has been designed by Jay Boutin and can be used by anyone involved in the build. I have included three sizes for you to choose from, regulation, slightly naughty and rebel, take your pick. I will ask that you please host the badge yourself to ease the burden on my Photobucket bandwidth, thanks.

Darren it's a fantastic kit, everything that i've been looking for to test my skills, it has the usual tamiya parts fit combined with the A/M style of detail and whats more there is a verlinden set for it, all of that and it's been staring at me for far too longThumbs Up [tup]

I think I'd be interested in joining this shindig too. I'm reading the book "Citizen Soldiers" by Stephen E Ambrose at the moment, it deals with the war from D-Day til the fall of Germany (it's a good read, I recommend it). Might even do my first bit of armour for this one (a Tiger or Panther would be nice). Great idea for a GB Darren Thumbs Up [tup]

I've got a bf109g kit in the stash, time is far enough out to hopefully finish some other projects and do research-I'm in

You know this build might be a good one to start some armour. I've been really interested in trying a 1:72 tank. Would this build also include Russian subjects? I've been crazy about T-34's lately. If no Russians allowed then maybe a Tiger in 1:72. I'll think about this one so you you can put me down as a maybe!

Well Darren, I reckon the 'Usual' crew will be in on this.
Birds of a feather and all that jazz.

Lets face it, one of us could nominate a Blu Tak GB, and we'd sign up for itBig Smile [:D].

Kinda makes ya all warm and gooe inside, kinda likeKremp's borsche.

Which Spits would qualify for this period???

Jules, I've got the Verlinden set for that UHU if ya want it, just send me your address and it'll be in the post.Cool [8D]

I dont see myself building a UHU for at least 2 years, got far too many other kits on the planning table.

Sounds interesting...Black Wolf is running an Aces of the 8th GB in '06 which is going to be a must build...what sort of time frame are you thinking of?...I would like to get in on this...an Me-262 perhaps...in the unpainted finish...I will be sure to watch this one closely...

Darren,

Put me in. I do not know yet what I will do but I will come up with something. Maybe a He-162 as I have one in my stash. It was a plane that came out in 1944.

My favorite subject... sign me up! I have a me 262 waiting to be built but might not be able to hold off that long. Big Smile [:D]

Jay Take a look in the armour section. There is a Mad GB (24hrs) for T34's in Mid July. A perfect opportunity to build a small armour piece!

Well Well Well.... thought you could slip this by me, did you??? Kremps called me on the cell and gave me the low down so I slipped online from work...

Sign me up! I'll probably be doing the 1/32 FW-190 from hasegawa I just picked up... need to do some more research first... I also have tons of kits I could build for this... a DML King Tiger etc... hmmm... maybe another Martlet?? Wink [;)] I do have two sets of decals left and one is an AC used in 1944....

haha I'll thnk of something... ya know maybe we would all just start a commune somewhere and we could model all year long together! Kremps could cook and clean for us!

Tom, I like the commune idea but, but how the heck are we gonna get past security here at Happy Acres?? It might work if Kremps could distract them!Evil [}:)]

awww Dave, why'd ya go and tell me wbout that one, now I'm gonna have to do it and if my wife gets upset, I'll send her to BC so she can let you have a piece of her mind! Ha Ha, seriously though I would love to do it. I have a B-Day coming up so maybe I'll get some styrene plastic formed into certain shapes...or some cash, either is good!Evil [}:)]

Jay Sorry mate... I got hooked on those Mad builds last year and I think they're great. It's kind of fun to bang one out quickly like you used to do as a kid (hopefully with better results Big Smile [:D]).

Tom A Commune Eh? Wouldn't it just be easier to convert happy acres and try to pass it off as therapy or have you already tried that one?

A new thought - Trumpeter's 1/32 Me262 will be out by next year. That would be perfect for this GB. I'm soooooo excited!!! Propeller [8-]Propeller [8-]Propeller [8-]Propeller [8-]Propeller [8-]Propeller [8-]Propeller [8-]Propeller [8-]Propeller [8-]Propeller [8-]

Jay - Dave - true... we could get Kremps to do a hostile takeover of the barracks ward and just set up shop there!!! Not a bad idea, especially since I have recently befriended Peter, a small cockroach in my room...

I've got quite a few kits to choose from so I need to think about it... maybe that King tiger that called my name last weekend until I bought it. It's been quite some time since I've done armor...

Geez, I didn't expect this much reaction so soon, but it looks as if we've got ourselves a build. I haven't even thought about a badge or dates yet.

Oh and by the way this build is KA (Kremps Approved). For those that don't know what this means, you will.

Cheers

hmmm.. I don't see the Kremps seal of approval, but since it is you saying this Darren, I will go for it. (making mental note to self to make Kremps Seal of Approval in photoshop tonight)

It seems we have all become one big disfunctional family, resigned to following each other around the Group Builds... 's ok with me! As long as Kremps is around we won't stray too far!

Sure, I couldn't stay out of this one. Don't have a clue as to what I'll build but something will come too mind in the next few months. BTW, hope you plan on hosting a BOB 2006 GB as well, the 2005 GB was great.

Kremps hates lace... it reminds her of her time spent as a concubine to Genghis Kahn [:0]

Now how did i know all the "Usual Suspects" would sign up for this one.............

Happy to be building with all the Wardmates againThumbs Up [tup]

Tweets How about a swapQuestion [?] I'll swap you my ICM Spit VIII for your Verlinden set for the 219, seein as you already have the CMK engine for the Spit and it would be a lot easier to fit that engine to the ICM kit compared to the Has kitThumbs Up [tup]

This was a mistake Darren..... Starting another GB thread 6 months before the actual build starts. You know what's gonna happen don't you?..... We'll have about 60 pages of Kremps talk before it even starts. I thought you would have learnt your lesson with the BoB GB.......Wink [;)]

Don't mind me fellas, just carry on talking about Kremps........Big Smile [:D]

Daniel, tell me about it!!! I honestly just put this up as a bit of a place holder until next year and to see if anyone was interested.

OK everyone I'm going to take a leaf out of Fightnjoes book here and start taking peoples names down who are interested but nothing will be set in stone because the build the build is so far away Sad [:(] Also how does everybody feel about VE Day (May 8th) as a finish date?

Joe (JoeRugby) I sent a note off to Blackwolf today about his Aces of the Eighth GB and he said "I see no reason why we couldn't do these two GBs at the same time. I really don't know in what timeframe mine will be taking place but I see no potential problems. I also don't have a problem with folks using one model for multiple GBs.”
Joe I hope this answers your questions.

Cheers

Actually, the instructions for the Verlinden set are for the Hase kit!!Big Smile [:D]Wink [;)]

I read all the details for the Verlinden kit, and they reckon it's for the ICM Spit, but I think ICM and Hase made a deal, cause it all lines upCool [8D]

Any hoo, send me your address and I'll post it, and we'll worry about details some other daySmile [:)]
