The bare carbon for the test bike seems to be darker than other makes. They use a very fine weaving type of carbon 'cloth' to construct the fairing which can be seen from close range. From far it look like there are painted with semi-gloss black.

Yes, I guess so. From my ref pics it looks semi gloss black even standing beside the other team bikes. I'll go with SGB as I hate doing CF...

i would say semi-gloss black with a little gold into the mixture.. Even if you try to emulate the carbon effect by using carbon sheets, I afraid you wont be able to find the right scale or print as it's simply too fine.

Great news guys!! Studio 27 will release a transkit of the 2002 Kawasaki ZX-RR MotoGP! The bike is done by Max Motomodeling and will use the Tamiya M1 as a donor. Count on it being expensive (approx 14500 yen) but what a great bike!!

14500? A little out of my ballbark, but I look forward to seeing what you guys create. I solved my trumpet exhaust problem, or lack there of for my #69 Repsol. Although quite unintentionally. All I did was ASK Hobbylink Japan about individual sprue availability, and next thing you know I've got a shipping notice in my inbox(!). Can't complain though (but the wife sure is!), HLJ's always been good to me, and if it weren't for them, I'd have to settle for the old exhaust on this bike. BTW, panels should get painted hopefully by the end of the week. This weekend's shot. I'm a US Marine and we celebrate the birthday of our Corps this month with a Birthday Ball. My unit's is this Saturday, and if past years are any indication, I won't be in shape to paint for quite a few days. Oh well, plenty of time until the end of the year, right?

You're absolutely right. 14500 ist REALLY steap. Hopefully though this go to show that there is a lack of Kawasaki kits on the market. I will not be the first to buy this kit but I will probably stock up on it during spring as I am an addict to newer GP kits.

Put my first layers of paint on the NSR´s today. Will do them again this afternoon. I've had some real trouble deciding wich paint to use on the Kanemoto bike and to figure out if the bike raced in a one or two color livery. Some images show the bike with a more deep blue tank but I've got hints on that it is possible those pics were taken on some test round. Well, well, major part of the bike will be TS-23 Light blue and the tank will be Mr Color Cobalt blue. The Lucky strike machine has got white painted on the seat cowling and I will leave that to set for several weeks before trying to mask the rear part off. Rest of the bike is painted TS-8 Italian red.

I'm getting itchy feet again! Need another build. I'm thinking of doing Rossi's Toyota Corrola rally car from S27. They have a decal sheet out for the Tamiya kit. Need to keep my Rossi obsession going!

Toyota...? Hmmm... I only knew about his outing in the 206. You live and learn! But with a few posts the "missing" WRC GB suddenly picked up again, so drop the Rossi car in there and share!

I have everything for the duck, even just ordered Marlboro decals (which won't be needed until later anyways). But the kit was only just released in SA - and I'll get my grubby paws on that one asap! Will end up building that before the M1, in the end!

Will take and post pics of the Sete bike over the weekend...

Got some serious splatter on the seat cowling of the Kanemoto when putting on the second mist coat...have to sand it down a bit. Lucky strike red goes on well but I decided to do the white portion of the seat with spray can and got some ugly runs. Think it went outside the area supposed to be white so hopefully I can do some gentle sanding there as well. I'm terrified of the masking session on that piece though. Never tried to mask off an area like that.
Went over a LOT of parts with black enamel and Aluminum Alclad II, think I used 1,5 bottles of the AII...expensive to be a modeller.

Saw the marlboro decal for the Duck and I think Tabu got the best of them all for the moment. Acustion's version was a joke with that kind of price! The font was wrong and also the propotion too.

Lookie what I found! Poor Tamiya, which one of the three schemes that Rossi and Edwards ran this year -blue/white, yellow/black, now red/white- do you think they'll put out in kit form? I'm not crazy about this one personally, makes me think of strawberry ice cream.

I think it looks great! The yellow/black is better though. I think Tamiya will do some M1:s right after the Akai yzr500 that are released in Februari. I know Renaissance is working on transkits for the Laguna Seca 50ty anniversary livery and the Miro one. That's good news.

Hi guys just made it back from hoilday-brought new tamiya duke while away will have to get a couple more for D'Aantin decals,and with yamaha's 3rd race paint scheme will have to get some M1's in Tamiya's next run of M1's if they make them have another week off work so will be able to do some extra work on models hopefully(unless wife has other idea's )

Cupcai, that is the one I ordered; the Tabu decals. Just this morning I started clipping some engine parts off the sprue, will clean up and start building it tonight. Lovely to see a non-RC211V engine on my bench for a change! After 3 in a row...

Guess Im gonna get the Tabu's too. Going to Singapore this weekend to a box of Duck. Ooppss, looks like plactics sindrome are back to attack me again with 60+ kits still lying around collecting dust.

I reckon the yellow/black would be my favourite for the special Yam decals. I'm sure that the usual's will bring out transkits for the 04 Tamiya kit before long. Might be another possible buy......

SeaBee - Rossi drove a Corolla in the Monza rally in 2003 + 2004. Think he is due to drive a subaru in this years one. Happens next weekend so keep an eye out for the pics.

Chose the 2003 version purely because I prefer the nastro azzuro scheme.

I have nearly finished exams, one more exam to go. Progress report: West RCV decals done and engine done. Fortuna M1 Yamaha has primary coat done and red sprayed on body parts. Can anyone explain how to post photos so I can attach some pictures?

Seabee I am very interested in the local (SA) “super chrome” auto paint colours you have tested. Please can you advise the product name and manufacturer? Have you tried any of their plastic primers?
I am looking for a solution since despite using 600 water paper surface preparation and Tamiya Surface primer I am still have the occasional problem with paint chipping off?

Andrew, will check the name tonight. I got it at Game, but can for the life of me not remember the brand, sorry. And it's cheap, too! (R21!!) I put some clear on with a brush (could not be bothered to start up the a/b for that...) and it stuck quite well.

Mitch, I actually saw those decals this morning on a site and wondered which one you chose! (2003 yeah! - and it's yellow!!)
I really was fully unaware of the man's continued ventures into the world of the WRC! Great stuff, he really does it for the enjoyment! A Subaru... that might be something to check out! Hopefully we get to see some footage of him - we get a highlights program on a Monday, will keep an eye out!

 Thanks pingtang.  Have been super busy (wife has been cracking the whip and I have been decorating for 2 weeks) but i have one final coat of spraying to do on the fairing.  Once thats done I will get the Micro Sol and Set out and put the decals on.  Then the gloss varnish.

BTW i think the Rossi/Edwards Yamaha in red/blue lookd great at Valencia.  Poor old Sete though, looks like he will be on a Ducati next season now...

Andrew, the name of the spray is Spectra. As said, I just picked it up at Game...

One quick question, though: how dull or bright is the Ducati engin colour? I see Tamiya talk about using flat auminium. Dull/bright/darker or pretty much the right thing to use?

My builds have stalled at the moment. Haven't done any work for a few weeks. I might try to get some work done this weekend.

 

BTW, Did everyone like Rossi's Valencia bike? Now Tamiya can release that one too......

No!! I liked the yellow and black (US GP) bike more...

This one was just too dull! Personal opinion and all that.

Thanks SeaBee will give the paint a try this week-end. Did you spray directly onto the plastic or did you use a plastic primer first?

Andrew, I just tested it on a spare piece of sprue, spraying it on directly. It will be more difficult to spray than Tamiya sprays, not so easy to regulate. But it settled pretty well, even where it did surprise me and came out much quicker than anticipated (initially).

As I said, for R20-odd, try it!

Wow, this new look takes some getting used to. The reply buttons don't seem to be jumping out at me like they used to, so SeaBee if it looks like I'm replying to only you, please forgive me.  Anyway, I survived the USMC Ball, and now back to the Valencia RC.  Got the panels painted TS-29 inside- I never liked the fact that Tamiya seems to have changed the directions to tell you to spray flat black, the panels are carbon right?  And from my experience that is nowhere near flat black.  Also, I'm trying spraying the TS-64 right from the can- against my better judgement- for the first time since my first try at one of these bikes with what was at the time disasterous results (Jacque YZR 500).  So far OK though, since I'm doing the warm-the-can-in-water trick before applying.  Thanks to whoever suggested that idea.  I'd read back, but I've already lost this post once.  Got the frame and swingarm glued, tank and subframe assembled and sprayed TS-29, exhaust holder CF decal micro-soled and drying as I type, wheels painted blaze orange, and first coat of flourescent yellow on tank cover and tail section brush painted on-which didn't turn out too good, so I'm loading that Testor's acrylic color in the airbrush tomorrow to see if I get better coverage.  Man, that stuff is thin!  No need to thin further for spraying I think.  I've got the next three days off (USMC B-day and Veteran's day), so this might start looking like a bike by next week.  Conveniently, the wife has to work, so I've got not too many interruptions. No progress on the Hayden RC.  Still no exhaust from HLJ, even though it's been shipped.  And I wouldn't get that far anyway since the decals are on backorder for who knows how long.

Yeah, this new look is nice, but I agree, replying is not as easy as it used to be! I miss the quick-reply box!
