QUOTE: I'm going to the Grenslandhallen in Hasselt within a week (I think), there's a modelling show !!!! Yipee !!!!

Maybe I'm mistaken, but to my knowledge the fair (modelbouwbeurs) is not in the Grenslandhallen in Hasselt, but rather in the Limburghallen in Genk.

I defenitely plan to go over there if I can.

Is Christiaensen in Leuven your LHS?
Do they have a lot of stuff there?
If, by any chance, you were looking for a particular type of kit they don't offer there, you could check here http://www.lhshop.nl/ . It's only 15' drive from where I live and it looked like walhalla to me when I first came in there Big Smile [:D].
They also sell a lot of FlightSim stuff too, including yokes, pedals, mikes,etc....
If needs be, you can PM me.

Cheers,

Hey guys,
I've primed my Hunter with my favorite automotive white primer. The build itself is quite clean, however the wing leading edge inserts and wing tip pieces supplied in the kit are thicker in cross section than the rest of the wing, so they protrude a little oddly. I did htin them down previously, and decided to prime to check it out, but some more will have to be shaved off. Not too bad a result given that I didn't think the fit of the kit was on a par with the quality of its detail.
I've just won a Matchbox Meteor Mk 11/12/14 off Ebay, which does come with decals for a Belgian AF, but I've got 6 GBs and a child to be born between now and January 10, so I won't volunteer for it just yet.
Cheers
Tony

I'm just taking it one GB at a time.

Yes Luc, in Genk there is a modelbouwbeurs also. But I think that's more train modelbuilding, right? If not, I'll go to there !!!!
Do you know something about it?
But I meant the Modelbouwbeurs in Hasselt ( 8 & 9 november). Are you going to there? I hope so, we could meet. That would be fun...
You know what, let me know something by e-mail, so we could figure something out if you want to. My email: jurgen.duchenne@skynet.be or jurgen.duchenne@gmail.com.
I often go to Leuven for my models.
Hmmm, could you bring me something of that shop for me? Any way, we could talk about it per e-mail. ( the mods could complaint because our GB gets maybe a little off-topic)

Cheers,

Jürgen

Hi guys,

Some progress:

I started preparing my kit for the "real work".
Going to dip the canopy and clear parts in Sols Plus (Future) and fill some sink marks with Tamyia Putty and sand some pins off.
This will actually be my first 1/48 scale project, because I used to build 1/72 scale mostly.

Cheers,

Jürgen

Started to check and detache some pieces.
First remark is that there is way too much flash on the canopy. Pretty hard to tell what is part of the strut and what should be removed.
Pretty ennoying for startersGrumpy [|(]
I'm defenetely gonne need some extra magnification as well, on top of my glacesCool [8D]Big Smile [:D]Blush [:I]. Apparently the years are taking their tollBig Smile [:D].

What is there further marked on the bottle? Is this "Glansreiniger"?

Yup, Sols Plus Glansreiniger. It was called Klear or Klir a couple of years ago here in Belgium.
Future is really transparant, but Sols Plus isn't, it is cream colored. I haven't used it yet for gloss finish, but I already used it for canopies. Works great !!!

Hi chaps,
It's great to see you guys doing 1/48 Spitfires. something I'm partial to myself. I'll be keen to seen how you go with the ICM one Luc, as I have a couple of these in the stash. Is it the early release wit hthe sink marks or the later, cleaner release ?
Jurgen, I've not seen the Italeri one, what is it like ? I need to do a XVI for my own 453 Sqn RAAF theme.
Cheers
Tony

I'm just taking it one GB at a time.

Hi Tony,

The Italeri kit is rather new ( released 2 months ago ), and is just a reworked rebox off the Occidental kit. I think it's better than the ICM kit, as it has really good decals (printed by Cartograph). Nice transparanties and a very nice pilot seat, really looks as good as the Ultracast resin seat. Cockpit detail is also quite good.
Only the weels might need replacment I think.
The Occidental kit had some problem with the shape off the nose, but Italeri solved them. There are some sink marks that have to be filled...
Overall a very nice kit...

Jürgen

Hi Tony,

Sorry for this late reaction. I must admit, I overlooked this one completely Blush [:I].

As for the ICM kit, I guess this must be the older one, since Jürgen told me he saw this kit in a newer box at his LHS. As for the sink marks, I guess it's not that bad at all. Mainly the elevators and the main under wing are inflicted. I really had to examine the sprues close under a lamp. Otherwise, I was impressed with the detail of the kit.
I also have some other ICM-kits, bought in the same period, in my stash (all Spitfires!). Since this is my first build after years, I don't expect this one to come out that well. At the moment I'm about halfway building the engine. It really will be a long-term projectTongue [:P]. I also have no AB, so I'm still thinking about what to do about that. As long as I haven't decided, it's an extra reason to hold back on the build. On the other hand, I would hate to use this plane to experiment with the AB.
Anyway, I'll try to keep you guys informed.

Cheers,

Luc

Hi everyone,
My Red Devils Hunter is coming along now. The scheme is red overall with the colours of the Belgian flag on the wing undersides and tail. I've chosen to mask n spray the yellow and black areas rather than use the decals for these areas, and that's done. Next job is the red. It does look quite striking in its overall white primer with yellow and black bits though. I'll try to post some photos soon.
Cheers
Tony

Hi,
I've got the red on my Hunter, so all the colours are down. Upon removal of the masking, it looks clean enough, although there are 1 or 2 small touch ups. It was a bit of a late night to get there though. As I was spraying, I dropped it onto the concrete garage floor. It hit quite hard, the canopy and seat came off, I cursed a lot.
However, once the red paint had dried enough to handle, I was able to observe that the damage was really quite minor, so I glued the bits back on, used a cotton tip dipped in thinner to remove any dust effected paint, and resumed spraying. I cheated and used a small hair drier in between coats to hurry it along. It's funny, if I stuff up badly, I often work obsessively to make it good, into the wee hours. Anyway, its come up clean, and I can't tell that I dropped it which is amazing, and very lucky. Photos soon. BT, the wing underside looks great with the 3 colours.
Cheers
Tony

Hi Folks,
Thought I'd better post some pics before it's finished. I think the scheme itself is quite stunning. I'd be interested to know what other aircraft carried the scheme.

Looking good so far, Tony. Very bright paint scheme.
I haven't made much progress on my build since I last posted but I thought I'd check in even just to say hello. There are a few other projects that are taking up the bulk of my bench time right now but I hope to have them cleared up within the next month.

Hi Tony,

Nice to see some progress pictures. Anyway, that's more then I can show at the moment.
As for your question about what other aircrafts used similar schemes, I have a picture here of the Red Devils (Belgian stuntteam) flying on the French CM-170 Fouga Magister(1965/1977) they switched to after, the Hunter

The bottom of the wings is bearly visible, but you can see the same scheme applied.

Luc

Hi Luc,
Thanks for the great photo, and the encouragement. I'll try to do the black nosecone tonight, then its the decals once I work up the courage.
I'd like to do this Magister, wonder if there's any decals out there. Might surf the net for it right now.
Cheers

I haven't seen it with Belgian markings yet...

DACO Products has markings and codes for Belgian A. F. in scale 1/72 and 1/48. So, maybe you should look there.

Yes Luc,

FM is a modelling company in France, they produce resin models.
You can find a sort of "company review" on Squadron.
