Max,

I might have to make a switch to an F16, cause OANG decals for the old A7 are nowhere to be found. I did, however, find some decals for the 112th FS Stingers out of Toledo. Seems to be the best I can do. Anybody have any suggestions?

Jerry

Well I am not going to get in on this group build since I just got back from Cali for a month and have to catch up on the two that I am on right now. But I thought that I would post this pick just you all here. I took this pic when I was getting my rental car at LAX and thought that it fit this so well. And yes it is the real paint of the plane and not a trick.

RadMax, that is an awesome looking badge!Thumbs Up [tup] If I can make a suggestion, it might be better to have the text in black as the white/red text doesn't show up as well in the sized patch. Take a look at my sig and see what you think.

On further reading of the rules... if any USAFM bird is OK, then I'm definitely in. I scored Trumpeter's F-107 at the last Hobby Lobby sale, and that kit includes markings for all three a/c. Since I already own that kit (unlike the F-102) I'm leaning toward that one. This will be my first GB and also my first experience with NMF and resin (since the kit cockpit is bare slabs of styrene and doesn't even include decals for the ip or consoles.) So we'll see how it goes...

OH definitely has the bragging rights for the first PRACTICAL powered flight... The first flight to circle back and land at the takeoff point (as oppsed to flying in a straight line and landing) was near Dayton.
HMMM... put me down as a maybe for my first-ever GB. I am leaning toward the NASA F-102 that flew out of Hopkins in the '70s... I need to verify that it's the right wing type and that the a/c was actually based there (IIRC the decal sheet says 'Ames Research Center, Cleveland', even though Ames was in CA.)
A chief Wahoo decal would be kewl. Even if it could never get off the ground in Apr and May Sad [:(]

OK guys, I've decided on a plane. It's a P-51A that was stationed at Wright Patterson Airforce Base. I actually got the decals for it in my Accurate Miniatures F-6B photo-recon mustang... which came in the mail today. What a stroke of luck! The plane is called 'Slick Chick'. Here's a photo of her...

I guess this will be my first forray into BMF as well! Hope I can stir up some more interst in this GB!! Oh any ideas for badges please feel free to post a badge idea!

Hmm, that Air Force museum connection seems interesting. I've got too little time on my hands to do this one, but the B-1B at the AF museum is 85-0051, the "Boss Hawg", which is available on Cutting Edges' sheet # 48-176 .

Good!!! Aug 20 is my birthday and I just returned home from Dayton and I have a TON of pix from the museum. At this time I do not know what I will do but count me in for this build.

If I can talk my wife, Pinkranger72, into it she to might want to join in, for she was born in Dayton.

RC, if it has the exact markings of a bird in the airforce museum, it's good.

How about an Aircraft that has made its way to its final resting place at the National Air Force Mussem At Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. If so I have alot of Aircraft that I have in the stash that I can get am parts for that are in the best resting place in the U.S.

Hey! August 20th is my birthday. I'm thinking of a 1/72 Sabre with Mig Mad Marine markings flown by John Glenn-if I can score one!

I have Italeri's 1/72 A-7D Corsair with markings for the 180TFG Ohio ANG. So, you can count me in.

First off, North Carolina may have been the location where the first flight took place, but Ohio definitely has bragging rights. The Wright Brothers grew up in Dayton, had their bicycle shop in Dayton, and did all their research and preliminary testing in Dayton. Huffman Prairie, where much of their early tests were done, is now in the confines of Wright Patterson AFB.

Ohio is also home to the first American to orbit the Earth (Glenn) and the first man to walk on the moon (Armstrong).

On Bench: AM P-51B, Tamiya 1/48 F4U-1A On Deck: Hasegawa F-14's (too many); Tamiya P-47D; Academy P-47N;

Enjoy the build.

One of the "old timers" aboard Camp Lejuene, NC saw my old Ohio "Birthplace of Aviation" license plate and had to inform me of North Carolina's "First in Flight" license plates. The old Tar-heel seemed pretty irritated about Ohio's license plate. People take that stuff seriously. I guess Ohio and North Carolina have a little bit of a Wright Brothers rivalry.

It's an excellent idea for a GB, but I'm not sure if I can join it. Are their any Chief Wahoo decals available? What about Brutus the Buckeye? Browns?

Radmax,

I'm definitely interested, sounds like a cool idea. My brother in-law was a crew chief for an A7 Corsair with the OANG in Springfield Oh. I've always wanted to build an A7, and it would make sense to try to duplicate his aircraft, however decals would be very difficult to obtain. I've actually have some decent photos of the plane including myself in the seat. I'll try and see what I can come up with.

What if it's just an OH unit, such as an ANG or a regular unit based in Ohio? I know one of the stock markings for the RM F-101B is a FIS based near Columbus, for example.

OK I've decided on the guidelines...
1. This is an Aircraft Group Build
2. Any era will do
3. Aircraft MUST have an Ohio link, such as the pilot hails from the buckeye state, or the plane was built in Ohio (Like some variants of the Corsair), or an Ohio related paint scheme
4. Don't start before the start date of Aug. 20
5. Any aftermarket goodies are welcome (and almost neccesary)
6. End date is Feb. 20, 2006.
7. People from Ohio are encouraged to join!!! That means swanny, trowlfazz, dragonfly, and the rest of the gang!
