well no mojo to work on my hornets the past few days. they are ready for the spray booth . i am still waiting for my stuff for the 1/48 hornet so that is still at a stand still other 2 are ready for the paint. and to make matters worse i am running out of time for all my gb that i have joined..turkey season is fast approaching. i have one road trip this weekend so i hope to get them all done by the end of this week.

Hi guys,

I am obviously too late to join this GB.

Recently ordered (but have not yet received) a Hasegawa 1:48 SuperBug (PT38). Seems a few of you are doing similar kits. I am mainly from an auto background and was wondering whether you guys have any comments on this kit or know of potential stumbling blocks for a guy that have not built a plane in years.

Feedback appreciated...

Its never to late to join, there is no end date as yet so if you want to officially join, let me know.

Most of the members of this group build have either started the 1/72 hasegawa kit or 1/48 revell kit. Don't think anyone has started a 1/48 hasegawa kit yet.

Can't accurately comment on PT38 since I don't have one but from what I've heard the actual fit isn't up to hasegawa's normal high standard. I would guess that the problem areas would be around the intakes and the nose/fuselage join. If you go back a page, u'll see the intakes on my revell kit to give u an idea.

Unfortunately the comments are in Japanes but the pictures can be used as a guideline.

Great link! Just for te record - there are not any comments done yet, just the pics that are uploaded. No, my Japanese is not all that great, coming from the same neck of the woods than you, it seems! Babelfish is my friend... Wink [;)]

It does seem that there will need to be some filling and smoothing.

Maybe I just need to finish my half-built Phantom (stopped due to house move and just never got going again) just to get into the swing of the aircraft thing again before tackling this one.

Thought the end date was linked to another GB's end date (which I have no idea what it is) from what I've read. But I will see when this kit pitch up, maybe it's too tempting. Will follow the GB closely even if I don't join in the end.

well made some progess on the 3 hornets today. got all the white things that need to be painted white done. i hope to have the 2 grays sprayed on tomorrow. i just hope it warms up a little it was darn right cold with the door open this afternoon while painting

Nothing much has been happening with my bug. Tried to use CA as a filler and it didn't turnout as planned. Hopefully finish fixing the intake seams this week and add the pylons on over the weekend. Then some painting can begin.

Hi Guys.

My Hornet is nearly at paint-barn stage. I remember someone saying that there was area underneath the fuselage fillets that needed filled, probably where the upper half and the lower half joined. Anybody got pictures to show the area to be filled?

well guys i have finally gotten the mojo back to finish the hornets. have painted both hornets top cover so far and i hope to have the under sides done this weekend. i have decide to drop the 1/48 E bird from the build and the G. i am still waiting for the G and other stuff for the E to come in. i hate haveing unfinised models. i have 3 hornets that are waiting for things to arrive. and i am running out of time for all my builds. i have at least a month to get them all finshed before i start chasing turkeys in march

A little progress update - I have painted the basic colors on both birds now, will be applying future today along with a bunch of the little bits. Hope to be able to post pics in the next few days!!

Here are a couple of inprogress pics of both of my entries

I will be finishing the F as the CAG 50th anniversary VFA-102 scheme bird and the E will be one from the "pukin' dogs". (both decal sets are from TwoBobs)

Most of the major painting is finished, will be sealing them with future tomorrow and then decaling, although I have not decided on the exact weapons load for the "E". I might even add a bit of weaponry to the "F" even though I have not seen a photo with this particular aircraft being armed.

Another progress update: both birds have the TwoBobs decals put on, and I must say that the decals are awsome!!! My VFA-102 decals cracked in a few places (the larger wing markings ) but with some Micro Set and a bit of Testors decal solvent they sat down nicely and when dry look amazing!!!

I highly recommend them!!

I also slung the weapons on my "E", I went with the 2 AIM-9x on the wingtips, the two AIM-120s on the outer pylons and then a load of 2 GBU-12's on one wing with one GBU-16 on the other. The innermost pylons are empty as is the belly pylon. Looks plenty mean to me!!!

Have received mine, but while you're on the topic, Matt... As stated above, I have not built a plane recently and thus is not up-to-date with all the ins and outs. What is a realistic payload for VF-103 on a F version? Or is it up to your imagination? (Not that I'd think so...)

looking good john. both of mine are at a stand still right now. no time to work on them . my other addiction has fully over taken my modeling now. i have 11 days to try and finish my 2 hornets. but with me being in the woods every free day. looking and listing for ol mr tom turkey and his ladies not much time spent on modeling..i hope to get some modeling time in this week . alll i have to do is paint the fs 36375 and put all the nick picky stuff on along with the decals and thier done.

To be honest I really dont know what a realistic load would be. However I would recommend that you look for some pics on the net and perhaps even pose the question in the aircraft forum. I guess that it would also have to depend on the mission that the bird was slotted for as well.

Update: I have the "E" finished, well it was finished, until it had an unfortunate brush with a door. Lucky for me, all that was broken were several of the weapon pylons, so it wiil be an easy fix.

welll guys my 2 hornets are now in hold. turkey season kicks off in the morning. i will try and finish them when i can mainly on bad wethaer days i will work on them. they are both all most done still got to spray the uder coat and pu the nick picky parts on an thier finsied. all the other builds look great.take care rob.

Well I have completed my "E", and have finally managed to take some pics of it. I did have one close call, dropped it from about 4 ft onto the floor but all the damage has been repaired and here she is!!

I have had to halt all my building due to getting ready to move. All my modeling stuff was packed up and shipped off on Tues this week. I wont be able to get back to building anything until late October or November this year. Sad [:(]

Hi all

I haven't touched the kit in months(or is it weeks), was getting bored with modelling so I switched over to the dark side and started a tank, which I'm thoroughly enjoying.

The tank has brought back my modelling enthusiasm and I even started my Revell KA-50 kit. Ok, I was lazy and an all black kit seemed like a good idea at the start. Then the fit and gaps decided to come out and play.

I've ordered my compressor today, so I should hopefully have it by the weekend.

Then I have no excuse not to complete the kit.

Maybe we should set an end date? Maybe a timeline would give us something to work towards?

i dont know about setting an end date i have missed 2 all ready. only one i got done is my 1/144 b52 h for the heavies gb on the arc site. i am still working on my 5 hornets. and 3 of them are ready for paint. these 3 were for a gb on fighter modeling web site and i missed that end date . and the 2 for this gb need to be repainted. as for the other gb only time well tell if i get them done in time. i still have a p51 and f4u-d for the aces gb on fsm , a p47 d for the thunderbolt gb, an f-15 c eagle for ther gb on fsm and 2 f4 c and g wild weasle for another gb on fighter modeling web site i think thats all i have on the bench to do. i must resist the urge to join so many group builds at one time. not enough time in the day to do everything. but back to the ? it dont matter to me if thier is an end date i will probally miss it anyways. yeah i did miss one i have an a-7 corsair for a gb on the arc site and missed that date it may be shelfed all together and built at a later date.

all 5 have been painted 36375 and all the goodies that go along with it. in the proces of detailing the landing gear wells should be decaling by friday on the two 1/72 ones for this gb and the 1/48 ones over the weekend i hope.now if only my stuf from shawn hull will get here. i can finish the bombs up.

well the 2 1/72 ones are painted and futured. i just havent had time to finish them because of work. but i hope to get a few hours starting to night to get the 2 1/72 done for this gb and i hope to finish the 3 1/48 f-18s sometime next week. some pics to follow later tonight
