The typical brands like Testors, Pactra or Tamiya all should be OK. Maybe you just need a good gray primer applied first. It's the only way I'd do white. Spray a flat gray over the the surface that's supposed to be white and then spray the white after the gray is dry.

My battroid is 99% white so that's what I'll be doing for it.

Over at the Starship Modler forum, some was asking about other Valkyrie paint schemes. There as a site he had visited that dislpay profiles of alternate schemes. Some one came back posting  this site:

Great. I've put you on the roster. What Scale/Make is your VF-19 going to be?

Made a little bit of progress today.  Actually made quite a mess but it'll probably be ok.

Finished with seams, putty and sanding:

Primered and pre-shaded:

There are still some spots that need more putty but I might just cheat a little and make it into battle damage spots Wink [;)]Tongue [:P]

Sign me up for this GB as well. I've got 3 Hasegawa 1/72s to cohoose from--a YF-19, VF-1, or "Super" VF-1, with the huge engines slapped on the back. It'll probably take me a while to get under way, since I have other concerns at the moment taking precedent, but maybe this will give me some incentive to finish the things! I'd like to have a badge in my sig line.

Vin,

It'll be the 1/72nd Hasegawa VF-19.  Already working on possible paint schemes for it!

Been playing with some potential Excalibur schemes as well.

Original Line Art:

I'm working on side and bottom views of the VF-19A and will post that line art when I'm done

VF-22S schemes are in progress as well, but my VF-0 will be OOB Skull Squadron

Mine's gonna be in CAG markings for SVF-32.  Trigger and I have been working on a good Swordsmen paint scheme.  I'll post it soon!

Vinny,

It's looking great. What's the primary color you're using? Some sort of deser tan?

Cobra, your scheme choice for your VF-19 looks good. Dang, with all these Y/VF-19 schemes appearing, it's tought to stay focused on me stuff! I may have to get another YF-19 kit (or two) just to try some of these schemes.

Trigger, I like your second scheme listing, myself. What is the artwork you have on the aft section on some of them?

It's 50/50 "Radome" & "White" - box stock color scheme...just like in the movie. Maybe I'll venture into a custom scheme on another build, but I like to have at least one that represents the movie version.

I got that idea from some pix I saw over on MacrossWorld.com. That section of the "beaver tail" is the shield mounted on the left arm when the mecha is in batteroid mode. When in that mode, unit markings on the tail are pretty much useless. The tail codes and artwork are FPO (for positioning only) and it's a couple of current USAF unit codes and some gladiator nose art from an upcoming TwoBobs F-15C sheet. Actual tail codes have yet to be determined and personalized art will come from my scrap decal set.

Oh, and my VF-22S arrived from HLJ saturday (that order was placed on Nov. 11), so I'm expecting my VF-0S to arrive in about another week.

So is the box sceme really supposed to be that dark a yellow, thevinman? I tried mixing radome tan and white in Model Master colors in a 50/50 mix. It looked way too dark for me, so I added more white and wound up with a color almost identical to the sprue color. I thought it was supposed to be a more "off-white" color.

Keep in mind that my current digital camera sometimes makes images a little darker than they really look. (my G2 is in the shop right now)
That being said, it's all in the eye of the beholder...since there is no "real" YF-19 to get reference photos of. It's an animation so there really is not any "supposed to be" color. I suggest you make it whatever shade of white / radome you think looks most like the box model, the box art, the macross movie, your imagination, whatever...etc. Pick one and go with it.

On the other hand...

What do you think now?

...make a gloss black bunny version, that would be cool!

Popping in for a general question here.  Should the clear canopy be finished in Satin or Gloss for that scaled shine?

I thought gloss was a pretty good standard for any scale.
